Not quite. Unfortunately that light has nothing to do with the trunk. It is the F1 system warning lamp. Check the F1 fluid level first and then take her to someone with an SD2 that can diagnose the F1 system. Probably a good time to have the F1 fluid changed and the system bled while you are at it. Should be done at least every 3 years. All those warning lamps are spelled out in the owners manual.
Oops!....I was a bit quick on my assumption....and I apologize. Thank you Terry for correcting what I erroneously thought was a minor warning!
This sounds silly but is your reverse lever loose - the pins break and the resultant movement can trigger the light - fix is to replace the internal arm with the Hills item from Ricambi Your CEL may or may not be connected - need the code to know more hence Terry's SD2 comment
I had the same problem with my 360 when the microswitch for the engine hood didn't close even though the hood itself was closed. That lit up the hood warning light as well as the F1 warning lamp (as for the OP). Then the F1 refused to put in a gear when standing still. (It was possible to cheat by let the car roll slowly downhill and then put in a gear). Everything was fixed by adjusting the small metel sheet that closed the switch. Took 5 hours to figure out and 10 minutes to fix...
People, guesswork is not doing anyone a favor and can often lead to an expensive repair. Terry's was the only knowledgeable or wise response, let it stand on its own.
Thanks for the advice. Funny, actually performed the F1 fluid service last summer with the annual service. The chck engine light came on shortly after the service was performed and i have not had a chance to take her back in. Have not driven her much in last yar either. Is it possible for me to check this fluid level on my own? Assume its in the manual and I will have a look.
F1 faults will set the CEL lamp in quite a few instances and it takes an SD2 to reset the F1 lamp and CEL after the problem is fixed. In some cases you can reset the CEL lamp with an OBD II tool, but as soon as she is shut down and restarted, the CEL lamp will again illuminate because of the F1 fault.
Hi Brian, With all respect, I can't figure out what was wrong with my post. I had the same symtom as the OP, at least as I interpreted it, and I just described how I fixed the problem permanently. (but for a 360 F1, not a 575). It was not a "guesswork". I thought that is how this forum is intended to be used, try to contribute by sharing experiences but I might miss something here... And that's how I use and benefit from F-Chat, learning from the experiences other knowledgeable people like yourself are sharing.
Jonas- You did not have a CEL to go along with the F1 lamp. Different type of problem. Yours was a soft fault and his is most likely a hard fault.
Taz, you are right. I was mislead by the open lid light in combination with the F1 warning in the picture. I missed the CEL in the text...
