I put an Alpine remote 6 disc CD changer in with my 1981 Blaupunkt cassette. The remote is off to the side in the little coin shelf by my left knee. Not easily seen. Best of both worlds this way.

Dealer installed. I have the original paperwork that shows they installed it, then a couple of months later, replaced it with the same type of unit (apparently the first went bad).

My unit is still working, and looks good in the car.

And, if you are into garage art, check EBAY for the Alpine/Lambo and Alpine/Supercar advertising from the early to mid-80's. I bought a framed add that is claiming my unit (the 72xx) is "the Stereo of the Supercars".

I think I'm going to grab this one. Def looks old school and probably period correct.

The shaft models are a bit older, more like 80-83, if you care about such things.

I would bet that Alpine is more 85-86. Maybe even later than that. I realize this is splitting the hell out of a hair, though.... :)

Here to qualify for collector plates the car needs to be 15 years or older, in good stock condition. Since its government insurance company here, plates come with insurance. The rates are much lower on collector plates. People here will pay good money for an 80's era deck.

I'd personally go with something like an Alpine 7902... it's probably 88-90 era, but still quite vintage and has a bit more nice/modern aesthetics than a dual-shaft cassette unit.

I had a cassette version around 1988... I couldn't afford the CD deck. But that glowing green still look so nice. ;)

Nope, serious. Wish I was kidding.

"The Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) is a provincial crown corporation in British Columbia created in 1973 by the NDP government of British Columbia. The original purpose of ICBC was to provide universal public auto insurance in British Columbia. Its responsibilities have expanded to include driver licensing and vehicle registration and licensing."

I have this one waiting in the wings, was "told" it was a dealer option for the car. If not correct it's definitely period.

The radio in now is something from the late 90's and I was planning to swap it out with this one but when pulling the 90's radio I noticed that the leather had been cut for an old school two knob radio. If I installed the blaupunkt I would have to cut dash. I was thinking of putting in a retro with Bluetooth and hands free phone...

Sorry Ed, but...not "period" to me, albeit by a very small margin, this according to the research I have done on Blaupunkts, which I have already posted once or twice...

The "26" in the designator of the head unit means:
    - "2": total output in watts = 20 (twenty)
    - "6": development year of this type of head unit: 1986.
It can therefore only have been mounted on cars sold late in 1986 and 1987.

Perhaps this is why you and me are discussing on the same threads...
I do have the original, period correct, Pioneer KEH-5060 in my 1989 GTB, which small embedded cavallino badge, and its owner manual in the pouch.
I am still looking for a top-shape, period correct Blaupunkt Bremen SQR-46, for my 1989 GTS, which was sold new in Germany.

(remember that the Blaupunkts have different names for "Euro" models and US ones, due to differences in frequencies band)

"Is it really this bad, doctor?"

That one is from about 88. I only know that because a family member had an old CR2001 (which, by the way are going for about 400-500 on ebay now) stolen from his VW Scirocco and this is what the VW dealer put back in it that year.

My car is in the shop getting her major done or I would post a pic of the installed radio as well as the beautiful stitching that is covering up

Oh the collector insurance here is a lot less then regular insurance. On an 89 Mercedes 560SL, regular is around $1800 per year, collector insurance is around $400. You must have either factory or a period correct deck. You also need to have one other primary vehicle insured by ICBC. Collector insurance cuts insurance bills in half.

As said in my previous post, the "6" in the "26" of the model type means "developped in 1986"; for a QV built in 1985, take any Blaupunkt ending by a "4".

I spent a few hours honing my german three years ago on different german forums...
First number in the Blaupunkt designator is the Total output in Watts, irrespective of the numbers of channels (two or four): "2" in the "26" means "output twenty watts".
The "6" is the calendar year of development of the head unit, so 1986; at best, it could only have arrived on the market for a car built at the very end of 1986.
"8" would be good for cars built in 1989.
For the other letters' signification, see my previous post of three years ago on the topic, link given previous page.

Back in 81-82 the CR3001 was very very popular with Ferrari dealers around here. Is that 30 watts 1980 or 30 watts 1981 or something else?

IMHO - VOXSON - because it's Italian (and their units look pretty cool from that era).... or Nakamichi (built quite well, very nice look to them)

When I ordered my car (1981) the dealer (RAB Motors) installed an Alpine system. That seemed to be the standard install, at least for the cars that came out of San Francisco, CA.

I was in 7th/8th grade in 81 so I was by no means an expert on this subject. I only know what I saw around here at that time.

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/308-328-sponsored-yellow-compass-group/322953-vintage-pictures-i-took-308s-1981-1997-a.html

Take a look at the radio in these cars. Almost everyone of the 2Vi's had the CR3001. Must have been an east coast thing back in the day. That one from the car show I'm sitting in even has the Blaupunkt ball speakers in the back. That was a new car and still unsold from FAF at the time. I guess FAF loved Blaupunkt. The red one came from Jackson Miss. Ferrari South. It has the Cr3001 from new (the owner told me the afternoon I took those pictures because I was asking him about those big speakers you can see in the pics. He added those later)

These cars were the reason I have the CR3001 in mine now. Just a throwback to what I remember as a kid. If I grew up out by you I would probably have an Alpine in it!
