    Hi Everyone,

New to the California T 2016 model. Used the top 3 times, no issues. Just tried to use it today to fold it down for the kids, and it says obstacle in the way...Windows goes down half way and stops. Then it said overheated?

Any one experience this and is this normal? Nothing in the trunk or in the back seats...pretty frustrating as I just got it.

I have a 458 spider and zero issues with the top.

    Help! Thanks.

I have 2015 T and never had any issues with the top going up & down .
Contract your dealer I'm sure it's a quick fix / adjustment.

Worth checking that nothing is covering the rear parking sensors (leaves, dust etc), since this will inhibit the roof opening.
I have 2015 Cali T - No issues with the roof.

Did you get stone protection film fitted.
As there was a thread on it some fitter missed the sensor cut out and had the same problem. Just a thought 😀😀

Thank you everyone for pitching in, I read an older post on resetting through the key fob. Lock the car and open and hold for 5+ secs. It seem to have worked the computer reset. The dealership is a bit far for me and they did confirm several sensors may need adjusting and this has been occurring...

I'm about to buy my first Ferrari. I saw top issue, and I thought it was going to list the top things that might fail.

What problems might I expect to have with a Ferrari? I have a payment down on 2015 California T. 1500 miles.

There must be things that are common failures.

    Thanks.

Why ? Its a big and largely erroneous assumption - look at the threads here - how many common themes can you find ?

It's a great car you will enjoy it for the performance, comfort, and ability to share with the family. The last point is probably the biggest. My 458 Spider has its own issues too. But all in all the top was addressed but I did hear it happens if the sensors aren't set up right in the beginning. As long as you have warranty I wouldn't sweat it, my issue is the dealership is 1 hour away without traffic.

I have a early 2015 with 17k miles. In South Florida, I would say I put my top up and down more than most. Never a problem :0

It's not a big erroneous assumption. Not trying to point out flaws, I'm actually trying to be prepared so I'm not disappointed if something fails.

This is a toy. It's ok if it breaks. I can read and see which auto makes have the best reliability. I can see who has the worst. I was asking the chat group because most of you own Ferrari's.

I'm excited to get my first Ferrari. Thanks.

Parking sensor failure on mine. Oddly happened mid journey at driving speed rather than when in use or at startup. Otherwise no issues

Am glad to see folks jumping in to praise the Cali.

If I may interject - has anyone (particularly those who live in hot climates) had any issues with their Cali hard top creaking and making noise while driving with the top up? I've searched here and only seen some odd mentions of this here and there.

My wife has a Benz SLK, which is a hardtop convertible, and it tends to creak in hot weather when the top is up (in Texas we typically have the top up in the summer; it's just too damn hot!). Dealer lubed it and adjusted it last year, and it's better but still makes a few noises. To me, it's distracting. Thanks, and sorry for the mild thread hijack!

My wife and I live in Houston. She drives a 2013 SL550 and I have a 2010 California. I have to say that hers makes a lot more creaking noises than mine. I'll get one once in a while over bumpy roads, but in general the top is pretty quiet. Torsional flex in the chassis will occasionally cause the seal over the windshield to "pop" when it slips, but that is also infrequent. I also think Ferrari uses better plastics in their interiors than Merc, so less tendency for creaking from that. Add to that the interior is almost entirely surfaced in leather so it also dampens any noise. And the Ferrari engine and exhaust are much louder too.

I've had a couple of hiccups where I've gotten "roof failure" error messages, both with the top fully up and the top fully down (never in the process of opening or closing. It has always opened and closed correctly). My guess is one of the microswitches or sensors has a loose connection or is faulty, because these errors seem to be related to bumpy roads. Have not been able to duplicate the problem at the dealership. Have also had an occasional alarm gremlin which may be related to the trunk latch (guessing). But even with the error message the top has always worked.

I think the mechanism itself is sound, it is built by Webasto in Germany -- they make countless roof assemblies for the BMW hardtop convertibles. The Ferrari part of the equation, where the sensors are interfaced with the car, presumably that's designed by the Italians ; )

There are a few reports of hydraulic fluid leaks which can cause issues opening and closing, and that has apparently dented a few roof panels. The place to check if it does not seem to be operating correctly is the access panel on the driver's side of the trunk. Not sure if that applies to the later cars or if it was just an early California issue. Rule of thumb seems to be if it does not seem to be operating correctly, don't tempt fate, close it and take it to the dealer.

Since it's a Ferrari, I'm sure any sort of repair or replacement of the top assembly is hideously expensive, so maybe a good reason to extend the factory warranty.
