Tonight we had DeLorenzo's (Robbinsville - formally Hudson) tomato pie. Topped with fresh basil. A Trenton tradition and a truly wonderful form of pizza. Very enjoyable.

Jealous!!!!! But you gotta take some pics of that 'za!

Our local supermarket HEB has been carrying wild-caught, prev frozen turbot for $7 lately so we've eaten it twice in the past week.

A few months ago I picked up a packet of fish breading/coating from a Polish market so used that on two big ~1/2 lb filets, then sauteed in oil last weekend. Came out AWESOME.

Last night I brushed two more filets with Jamaican Jerk seasoning from an open jar we made chicken with last week, and sauteed in peanut oil. Holy ****, I didn't really slather it on but that **** is HOT.
Sauteed spinach with bacon, onion and garlic plus tasty little biscuits from a can as sides.

Turbot is now one of my favorite fishes.

Was in too much of a rush to serve and eat it while hot didn't take any pics, but here's what Turbot looks like in natural form:

So, near as I can tell from the internet, pizza = sauce first. Then toppings. Tomato pie = toppings then sauce last. Is that it?

    You rock, Z!

The warm up to Valentine's Day is afoot! Tonight it's cap steak, and Israeli couscous. Crostini with camembert to start off. Oh yeah, with homemade French 75s. Made them with Meyer lemons & frozen strawberry ice cubes for an extra bit of fancy.
This is before on the steak. I'll post "after" pics if it turns out good...T

The "after" picture. Ready to come off the grill. Did it on the electric on a hot griddle since the casa is in shambles due to reno. 500+F griddle according to the infrared thermometer. 3:33 for each side. Hey, I like numerical alliteration! :)
Since I used the electric Weber, I sprinkled some hickory dust (Cameron's) to give a bit of smokiness to the cap steaks. Steaks were like butter!!

So cooking two filets would make it a Twin Turbot meal. Cool. :) Sound good. I really should eat more fish especially living up here in WA.

I will admit I had to google both cap steak and French 75. Had no idea what either was but both sound and look great. I made a Costco run today so dinner tonight is a roast chicken on croissant sandwich and ceasar salad that they package together. Pretty good actually and at more like a meal and a 1/2 for $7. Had half the sammich now and will eat the rest in a couple hours at my "real" lunchtime. Also added a couple of these pickles to it. I think I'm becoming addicted to these things...3 pack-Famous Dave's Devil's Spit Pickle Chip Gluten Free

I also picked up a couple prime New York's while there. Not sure when I'll get to cooking them but man they look so nice. Probably early next week sometime.

^That sounds like a great deal for dinner.

I was only marginally familiar with cap steak until the steak thread here. Helps that Costco started carrying them, because I'd never seen them in the wild before that.

If you're ever in D.C., try a French 75 at Café du Parc. Great location near White House. They make a mean French 75...T

Nurburgringer, sorry, no pictures - too focused on eating :D :D

Tomc, yes; its a nuance but it leads to thinner crispier crust. DeLorenzo's is amongst, if not, the very best. Also, the flavor is distinct (at least to me).

To combine this with the pork roll thread, if you order sausage on the pie at DeLorenzo's (which I did on one of last night's pies) they put raw Italian sausage stuffing (probably made in the same factory as the pork roll) and it cooks into the pie. Absolutely amazing with onions and basil!

    Regards,

    Art S.

PS. Some day I'll try their clam pie.

Huh. I guess less tomato sauce soaking into the pizza skins with the toppings in the way = crisper crust? I pre cook my skins at home to avoid the soggy, and accentuate the crispy. I'll have to try inverting the order of sauce vis-a-vis toppings next time I make pizza...T

I had a few Costco premade items for super bowl. They make these chicken wrap tray deals, very good.

Only three walks for the dog today, and no ball play. Now I'm paying the price little bugger is bouncing off the walls crazy. This will be first Valentine's Day at home in a long time. Usually in Miami for the boat show, Vegas or someplace else.

Me too. If you haven't tried the Devil's Spit ones and you like spicy stuff, give them a try. Great heat to them that really spices up sandwiches, burger, or dogs just right.

Tried the grates out the other day on the grill. Tossed a tri-tip on. Loved the grill marks. I threw together a marinade for the meat though that didn't turn out to be the best tasting. I'll know better next time and use the prime rib horseradish/salt/pepper rub that I used last time.

It was funny though when I went to put the grill away I wasn't expecting the handle to be so much heavier! Then I remember the cast iron grates! I'm gonna love these things when I start using the grill more!! Thanks again for the tip!!!

Dinner plus. I ate half the sandwich early and only ate the salad at regular lunchtime. Eating the whole thing would be a BIG meal.

Back in the day, '80s, I used to eat on a regular basis Kroger's and Randall's 'crab meat stuffing' Flounder fillets and they were Heaven on earth. and SUPER fresh. I just added a small amount of butter, S&P and fresh squeezed lemon and wrapped them in foil.

I purchased a jar of Jerk sauce from B&W Meat Market off N. Shepherd last year planning on making my own Jerk Chicken, that shat is HOT!!!! It definitely needs to be diluted with water or oil, just from a minute dab my finger and tongue burned for 20mins....milk to the rescue lol.

There's a great Caribbean place in DFW. (forget the name, old age!). Their normal stuff is spicy, great. They have this evil stuff that I think can be used as military grade tear gas. I almost barfed just sniffing it!! :)

I'm trying to remember a grocery chain that was big in Arizona and owned by a Canadian billionaire who lives here. He sold it in the 90's. Anyway, they had some pretty good premade stuff in their deli section. When my parents had a house in Paradise Valley, the majority of our grocery shopping was there. Parents sold their house in 95, so its been that long since I've been grocery shopping in Arizona.

edit: found the name it was called Smitty's something. It was kind of like a better Wal-Mart super store, they sold grocery's and household items, electronics, etc. It merged with Fred Meyer in 96 and all the stores rebranded to Fred Meyer stores.

^ Fred Meyer is now part of Kroger family. Kroger is fine for every day food. Central Market for the splurge items...T

I did mention that this was back in the '80s, right? There was no Central Market back then either and Kroger's was the "go to" grocer.

I saw. I didn't realize that CM was so new. It's been here as long as I have been in Texas - 14 years. So, yeah, I'm a new comer to the Lone Star State. We've been to HEB Plus down further south, and those ain't bad…T

I only dealt with two big stores with product Costco and Whole Foods. Our other customers small WA chains. Knew who the big guys are. They however rarely buy a small new to the market product or products. Their self space is too valuable for the small guys.

I appreciate that you brought them back into my interest once again, thank you for doing that Tom. CM entered the market in TX in '94, I believe, and I know they are highly regarded so thank you for the re-reminder.

Mom could use a cheeseburger off the pit with a buttered and toasted bun (heck so could I!) this weekend, Soul food!
