I'm about to pick up my first California & it's coming with a horrendous set of 19" factory 5 star Ferrari wheels. I even looked around for the factory 20's but i didn't see much of a price difference between them and after market wheels.

So i'm here asking for suggestions on size because i've heard of people putting 22's in the back with 21's in the front just like I heard of smaller sizes

Please share your experiences & suggestions...

I prefer the OEM 20" diamond polished wheels, but if going aftermarket, I'd go with these HREs.

The suspensions on most modern cars are calibrated to wheels/tires within certain parameters, and once you get larger than 20", you risk having issues. Not only that, but the weight goes up, compromising ride and handling, and larger wheels are more prone to road damage.

On EBAY: These appear to be near-new factory 20" wheels for a Cal T. I have these on my Cal30 in silver. These appear to be an anodized color. You may have considered these originally but I think that they're really sharp and the pricing is right, assuming they come complete with TPMS etc.

On a similar thought, has anyone gone to a larger tire on the factory 20" rims? I'd like to fill the fender gap more, without having to lower the suspension more than I already have. Specifically, has anyone installed 285/35ZR-20R on the front and 295/35ZR-20R on the rear? Thoughts/comments?

    Thanks,
    Randy...

I lowered my stock suspension by 7/8" and put 11mm spacers up front, 15mm spacers in back -- the combo, with 20" wheels seemed to do a pretty good job filling the wheel wells, without risking wheel rub damage (at least thus far!).

Don't you mean 285/30R20 in the front? 285/30R20 is the same diameter as the OE 20" front, if you want to keep the front to rear diameter difference the same at 4%, as the originals with a 295/35R20 rear to avoid issues with the ABS sensor and stability control system, then the size fro the front would either be 255/35R20 or 295/30R20. Then you have 27" diameter fronts and 28.1" diameter rears. OE 20" is 26.8" front and 27.9" rear.
That being said, you won't get any 285 section tyre on the front, especially a 35 aspect tyre. Try to bolt your OE rears on the front, you'll see what I mean.

People have been running 255/30R21 on the front, so with the correct offset, you can run 255/35R20 and 295/35R20. Note that 255/35R20 won't fit the OE 8"x20" rims.
My guess is that the largest you could go would be 265/35R20 and 305/35R20. Will they fit? I don't know, but there's a chance with the correct rims and offset. Definitely don't venture into this without consulting a wheel shop with adequate experience.

Oh and also. If you just install a front that is 1.1" larger in diameter and a rear that is only 0.2" larger in diameter, the stance of the car will be wrong, as it will sit in a "reversed wedge". If you only increase the front tyre diameter a lot, as you suggest in your post, you'll need to lower the front as much as the radius increase over the rear - or make the rears equally larger.

Rats, I hate it when I miss read my notes from month's ago... Ignore what I wrote above with regard to tire sizes. I need to learn to slow down and proof read better. Sorry for the confusion...

There are what I have installed now: 245/35ZR-20(F) , 285/35ZR-20(R)
    These are just a tad bigger: 255/40ZR-20(F) , 295/35ZR-20(R)

Any problems going a tad bigger?

Read your post again;) The aspect ratio you want with the 255 section front tyre is 35, not 40.

As I said before. If you go one step larger than the OE size, you need a rim width that will accept the 255 section front tyre. The 295/35R20 will fit on the rear rims with no issue and there should be plenty of clearance on all sides of the tyre. But the fronts need a rim that is at least 8,5" wide, the Cali and Cali T rims are only 8".

So is it a straight tyre swap to Cali rims? No, a rim change is needed.
Can it be done with other Ferrari rims or aftermarket rims? Absolutely.

I have 245/30/20 in the front, and 285/30/22 in the back. I like the way the bigger rims look and the ride is not as bad as I thought it might be.

Stay stock. Don't go the urban-huge wheel route.

The California and California T have a similar body flow as the F12. Without a doubt, I will go with a set of these when I pick up my California.
