Just purchased a 2008 F430 with 1850 miles. Came from Florida. Noticed Ferrari dealer has been putting in 10W60 oil for the past two oil changes. As you all know, Ferrari specs 5W40.
Any idea why the Ferrari dealer would put such a heavy weight engine oil in? I know its hot in the summer, but I would think that 10W60 is overkill.

    Your thoughts.
    Thank you

Ferrari said to use 10-60 in any extreme use or very hot environment. Even in Texas I really don't see a need on street cars but not a big deal one way or the other in hot weather.

I run Mob1 15w50 in mine per my mechanic's suggestion.

+1 I use M1 15-50 in mine, as I track the car a lot and it was eating the factory 5-40 Pennzoil like crazy.

There are very good reasons Ferrari does not say that. Has you mechanic offered to step up and pay for the damage caused by going against manufacturers oil requirements?

Ferrari says a lot of stuff, including not recommending a service interval on F1 fluids. Are you aware of specific instances of engine failure resulting from the use of Mob1 15w50? Please share if so.

On my 360 at the track on very hot days I was getting low pressures. It was probably fine, but switching to 10-60 normalized things. Switched back when it got a bit cooler.

My car has had M1 5-40 since new (10+ years). It has 26K on it including maybe 1K on tracks. It's never needed oil between changes. Of course, I broke it in by the book and suspect that is a factor.
