Yes, this looks very bad, like a 1990 Honda Prelude... and on this one it looks as if it does have fenders, not the single bonnet of the final version. Good choice Ferrari.
And it is not entirely coincidental that you see similarities with the 850, I am pretty sure BMW and Ferrari must have had at least some contact back in the days since a number of parts are shared, such as the seat frames, door locks and catches, engine management, some parts of the leveling mechanism (even though that is from the E32, not sure the 850 had this system), yes even some plastic slider parts of the dreaded window mechanism are straight out of BMWs of the time.

The 456 continues to be an underrated car.

Not sure about this point, in my opinion, the items where generally developed by Bosch, Beru, Sachs etc. to be used in several BMW series (7 and 8 - quantities...!) and then used by Ferrari as well. Sometimes with small adaptations like connectors, wires etc......

By the way, I'm quiet astonished, how many german technical parts where used in these cars, from pistons, exhausts systems to motor management, electrics or wheels.

Think as well, both cars, the 850's and the 456's are still underrated.

    Saluti,

    Jürgen

From our most recent Cars & Coffee at a private residence, the 10K mile '97 GTA along with it's stablemate '05 Ford with just over 13K miles.

The Ford is always a hit at most any gathering, but the comments on the 456 are the most interesting and would agree, the car is under appreciated but is gaining popularity. Favorite comment/question is the question of what year: When answering of the MY of '97, the response is most always....So elegant. Thought it was much newer.

My funniest comment was when I got out with my girl and a kid. "I did not know they had four seat Ferrari's??" People are generally very surprised to see more than two people exit.

Yes, their coupe was also designed by Pininfarina... ultimate stealth is to remove prancing horses and replace them with Peugeot lion logos...
I live in the city and logos have been stolen of my BMW, so I have actually thought about this for a second. :)

Here in the States you could put Mustang on the rear and be believed. Especially with a model most folks do not see all that often.

Yeah I had a date years ago when my 456 was still current and she complimented my really nice mustang having noticed the prancing horse logo from the passenger seat

    Go figure...

Nice to see Huub Stapel as presenter there. Francesco did not care that much for the admiration and I somehow did get the feeling that nice power drift was well edited-in footage somehow. All in all a slightly clumsy feel to it but what the heck, this was the early 1990's.

Funny- I thought '97's were only automatics, but irregardless, that's an interesting video that makes a few little known Good points that were very interesting to learn- Thanks for posting

I'm still in love with my 456 ;)

No, Moe, there were no automatics until mid-CY 96, MY 97 in the US. 6 speeds and automatics, however, were both coproduced on the same line from then until the end of 456M production.

Nothing really special, and it is bound to be covered else where, however attached is the Shell Spirax S2 ATF D2, Technical Data Sheet

This sheet actually identifies Shell Donax TA as the previous name for Shell Spirax S2 ATF D2 NB date published is 05 05 13

However it appears that shell have since deleted Shell Spirax S2 ATF D2 and it appears to have been replaced it with Shell Spirax S3 ATF D2
    but still appears on this
