There is a line, where marketing takes over, that's all I'm saying. This car smells of that to me ... if you like it by all means get out of that BMW ! You'll love it, another world. There is also a confidence curve for a new design team, where they need to try very hard to make a showing, but can lose integrity in the process. I see a touch of that in the F12 TDF but it works there. Suits the muscle car/Ferrari combo. This is to me a trying-too-hard design that loses it's integrity more than once.

Can't understand your sense of masculine and feminine design from this example. Maybe semantics or different taste. My eye says that PF has implied lines and feminine curves. FDS went square and busy, with actual lines, and tried (the marketing part) to eliminate what was bothering people like yourself on these forums. FF design lovers see it more my way than yours and are happy to be in the minority. All the best !

Give it five years and people will be queuing up for the FF, assuming the world hasn't gone completely nuts. Have a good week :)

Another side by side pic - Seems like they changed most of the body panels
Much more than the typical modificato IMO - Now we wait for US pricing :)

I love that! I'd rather have that than the two door version.

What you're seeing is how mild changes in design can affect peoples' perceptions of what they see. The dimensions are likely identical. This is, after all, a reskinning of the FF. It's not an entirely new car. The underlying chassis won't be changed and the motor will have minor updates to achieve the additional HP but it's ultimately the same engine. The biggest changes are likely; sheet metal, rear geometry (to accommodate rear wheel steering) and interior styling (not layout). There are probably other changes we'll learn about soon but small changes none-the-less.

This thread shows that people see what they want to see. The general public would barely be able to tell these two cars apart yet people are jumping on all kinds of details to illustrate something they care about.

Frankly I like the new car because I loved the old car. I'm happy to get an updated FF with more modern electronics and a little more performance with the same driving enjoyment, chassis, engine, roominess, versatility and overall styling. Yes, I think the overall styling is unchanged. There are only minor tweaks in my eyes and I'm happy with that. The biggest change to this car is the name change which seems silly, and overly complicated, to me (because I'm used to the FF name) but I'm not bothered by it. If they had named the original FF the GTC4 then calling this one "GTC4 Lusso" would have made more sense. But I don't follow what makes this car more "lusso" than the one it replaces. The old 250 GT Lusso was a larger and more luxurious car than the one it replaced. This car appears to be the exact same size and I can't see how it is any more, or any less, luxurious than the FF. But, again, while I'm not bothered by it, I would have been happier if this had been called "FF" something, even "FF lusso" would have made more sense than GTC4.

Looks like all those small changes added up to a very good package :)
I was expecting a larger HP bump but maybe they have higher performance
versions of the GTC4 coming down the pipeline ?

The Lusso is 4mm higher, 3cm wider and 2 cm longer - so it is in fact a larger car - although not that much larger...

Completely agree with this view. Do not see the 'marketing dept. design' thing at all. As if designs are not influenced by the marketing department. Or do you think the shape of an FF, which packages 4x4, four seats and a V12 was created by not thinking about marketing?

To me it's simple. The lusso refines and resolves the start PF already made to this new car concept with the FF. It is a 9 out of 10 design. In other words, 9 out of 10 people will prefer the newer car because it is cleaner and more resolved. It is at the 458 level in terms of how well the design is resolved, whereas the FF is more like a 360 - a new tech car that proved to be beautiful but with some lines still unresolved (swage line from front to back too long, front face too wide with headlamps a little 'boss-eyed' etc.)

All very subjective but let's not call it a 'marketing car' as if somehow that makes it a sell-out by Ferrari. All cars are marketing cars and this is one of the best IMV. Let's put it another way, if the FF is a 'not marketing car' that means that, assuming Ferrari marketing is good...and they are...then the FF is designed not to be appealing to people. I think the FF was a first attempt at this type of package and now Ferrari (whether PF or FDS) have now had a little longer to get it right. Both had better be marketing cars otherwise you would fear for Ferrari. Just my 2p.

Same here. Everything you wrote was dead on. Ferrari has been making 2+2 cars for many years because customers want them. That's not "marketing" that's listening. I love my FF and I'm sure I'll like the Lusso even more.

The lower character line between the doors makes the 'GTC4 Lusso look less bloated than the FF, that alone dramatically improves the design

Yes, the use of creases along the sides help in reducing the bloat and also make the car look lower.

Late to the thread...isn't this the "M" version of the FF (i.e. the 4-year, mid-platform life, update)?
