For all F-Chatters who sell or buy on here, be aware of a buyer/seller named Jim Webb, [email protected], hailing from Georgia - however his IP originates in Nigeria and it is disposable. While it unprofessional to get into specifics, "Jim Webb" claimed inventory on a part which we sent a check for. Since check was sent, "Jim Webb' has been amazingly unresponsive to e-mails.

What he does is copy your post or ad and pastes it into the subject line of the e-mail. He then pastes a generic story into the body of the e-mail claiming to have the part you're looking for but is short on time and can't talk on the phone but accepts MoneyGram only. Additionally, he will claim he can't set up PayPal because he has to pick his wife up at work. From my research this SAME e-mail has been sent to at least FOUR different types of forum members - everything from Ford to motorcycle forums. After doing some research regarding "[email protected]" via Google, it seems he targets want adds claiming to have a part or item, accepts your payment via MoneyGram ONLY then never sends parts.

Any questions feel free to PM me regarding specifics. Be careful everyone, sell and buy safe!

You guys sent out a Moneygram check to Nigeria? How about you sell me one of your Ferraris and I will send you a check for more than your ask since I already have it made out for that amount. When you get the check you can send me the Ferrari and the difference in a MoneyGram check?

To be clear, the check we sent was to Georgia. I found out later - after we stopped payment on the check - that his ip address is in Nigeria. Also, we refused to do a MoneyGram and would only pay by check or PayPal. He accepted check and even sent us an invoice.

The most important thing is that everyone else knows who this guy is.

Yes understood, I feel bad for you - tons of scammers out there and Paypal backed by a credit card is probably the only safe way to go.

I just sent a Western Union for $3,000 to a Nigerian Barrister after winning THE INTERNET LOTTERY. The $3,000 is for processing fees so they can release my $300,000,000 United States Dollars. I can't wait to purchase a 288GTO and Enzo! YEAH BABY!

No matter how smart these guys get, their ad and their requests give them away. Not saying I could not be fooled but I always offer to give them cash next day when I fly their to pick up my items.
All of a sudden they disappear. Funny hey ?

Glad you were able to act fast on him.

I won't buy something online unless I can use PayPal. Even on this site, if the seller won't accept PayPal I'm not interested.

And I, as a side note, am not interested, if a seller requests PayPal and does not accept other trustful methods of payment (credit card or wire tansfer, e.g.).

    Cheers, Bernhard

Wasn't trying to be funny, just pointing out that things like this have been around since the start of the Internet, so by now when someone says "Money Gram" or "Western Union" or is asking payment to be sent to Nigeria, you can probably guarantee the deal is a scam.

And, the proper Latin usage is "ad infinitum"

    Just an update:

Filed a claim with the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) and am forwarding the proper information to said organization. Again, buy and sell safe!

I filed a claim with IC3 about a Ferrari that was for sale years ago with the story of the "recently divorced wife that wanted to get rid of her ex cheating husband Ferrari" and I gave all the information I could to the FBI (IC3) long story short, they did pursue the guy and put him 5 years in prison, I believe the guy had a history of wrongdoings.
So they do not take those IC3 claims lightly.

I had a friend who fell for a 'Nigerian' scam once. He was literally planning his trip over there to collect his 'inheritance'...!! It took some serious counseling to finally convince him that he didn't have a long lost uncle who had left him a fortune in a diamond mine in deepest darkest Africa :)

My wife's non- profit organization's bank account has been hacked at least three times with cellphones being bought and delivered locally and tracked down. ($300 withdrawn etc. PayPal etc. ) PayPal reimbursement weeks later.

The local assistant DA has told sheriffs and police dept not even to bring these crimes to their attention-- not interested.
