Hello all, I currently have a TUBI on my 512TR, without cats. Absolutely great sound but on longer distance highway cruising at 80mph it morphs into droning which becomes quite uncomfortable. If anyone has any experience or alternative solutions I would be very interested to know, I can think of 4 possible options: 1- Put the cats back and keep the TUBI (will it "kill" the sound or just the droning?) 2- Put back standard exhaust without the cats 3- Capristo exhaust with variable / electronically controled valves, NO CATS (quite expensive) 4- Same but with cats (even more expensive!) And before anyone suggests, I have been through previous posts on the topic!
x-ost with Hyperflow cats but no pre-cats give a good sound and is (more or less) environmentally responsible. No need to eliminate the primary cats - no significant HP gain. Rgds, Vincenzo
Putting cats back on will not kill the drone. Will kill the power. And will do there job which is to become stupid hot and burn excess fuel and gasses so your engine bay will get super hot also as well as the feared fire possibility increases. I had MS racing on my tr fantastic F1 sound. My friend has Capristo stage 3, fantastic F1 sound but louder I purchased the Capristo stage 2, quite around town and on the freeway.....until you floor it and it automatically opens up to effectively a stage 3. I have been in many with this and it's a great system. I purchased it for mine 6 months ago and never put it on, still in the box. Decided to sell my car sometime this spring and it is being Classique certified as we speak.....must have original exhaust, oops.
I would like to hear your tubi clip, I have a tubi with test pipes on the way. My car is equipped with MS racing exhaust, anyone looking for an aftermarket exhaust I am willing to sell my muffler (when my car arrives in next 40 days)
I put a tubi on one with pre-cats and one without. The pre-cats still allow a nice howl as the RPM climbs but theres no droan. The X-ost without any converters or pre-cats is borderline insane, did one this fall like that. I like it but its pretty LOUD! Cops might not like it but the sound is mostly outside of the cabin thankfully.
Only benefit is that you have valves on the muffler to quiet the car at speeds below 4,000rpm (thats the case on F355). You can buy aftermarket remote valve system and an exhaust shop could fabricate it for you to your existing system.
I have a Nouvalari exhaust on my TR, I'm very happy with it as it is not a bright sound. I've posted videos of it in this section, you'll find them easily.
that's my car! when the past owner had it. It has hollowed out cats now. I have gotten a ticket because of the loudness. A cop heard me speeding on the freeway and raced up to get me.
Really? That doesn't sound too loud (and sounds a lot like mine (Tubi)). I'll be sure to stay out of Michigan!
That is the sound that pushed me to x-ost and hyperflow. Nice! Hey, a fix-it ticket is far better than one for speeding! Life is Good, vincenzo
Thanks Christophe, interesting to hear, I will try and find your video. Do you have the cats on yours or do you have straight pipes?
I have precat test pipes and high flow cats. Let me know if you can't find the links, I can post them again.
Indeed very helpful info thank you, found them (I think!). I think it is pretty clear to me now I need to keep the straight pipes and consider a different exhaust... Stock vs Capristo vs Nouvalari (sport)! ... Or X-ost, the videos make a compelling case for it! Thanks vicenzo and james
Have you looked at the Nouvalari? I have one on one of my cars and love the sound. Ive have a few now on different Ferraris and loved it on all of them. Glenn Lite the owner has great service and is also involved in the FCA. I believe he has a TR video on his site.
I think that LAFLUTHE drives like an old lady, having the 512TR at 80 already in its 5th gear .. while it should be in 3rd (or sometimes 4). These 12 cilinders must howl ... never droan ... unexperienced driving imo
Hi Lafluth, what's your name friend ? Please fill out your info on the right here .. so we know who you are ... I meant what I write here allways; people know me this way ... I do meet so many people with TR's and most of then do not rev the car over 4000 at all. That's what I tried to say ... must be my non-native speaking English, sorry Can you please desribe how much experience you have with your car and you do drive the 512TR (f.i. at 80 mls) ? Well Mel, if you want to know, I have had my car for a few years and drive her once in a while, usually for long-ish trips to get to interesting places in Europe, where I do quite a bit of motorway and then have some fun on the more twisty stuff. So the motorway part is where I get the droning, and rest of the time the decatted Tubi is great music!
