Mobil 1 0w40 was on sale for $26 per 5qt jug with free ship on Amazon prime. So I bought 4 for the 348 and the Porsche. Adding the link.. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HG76A9A/ref=cm_sw_r_em_awd_7abYwb8H7R6G7

Funny I have owned the 348 for 2 years and never changed the oil myself until today but was done last year for the major. I dumped exactly 10 quarts without any issues. When filling I slowly put the exact amount in the remote tank expecting it to go somewhere but it seems to have stayed in the remote fill tank. Well at least it is exactly at the max level. Before I start it tomorrow does this sound right or did I need to dump a few quarts in the oil filter hole to prime it?
    The sump eludes me.

Here's a decent tutorial on how it works

Wet Sump and Dry Sump Oiling System Differences - Engine Builder Magazine

You don't want to over fill the system and the car needs to be running or just turned off and quickly checked to determine the level.

I have put in less than capacity ( like a quart) , then started the engine and added oil to the desired fill level. If you are at the max line or over you might want to get a turkey baster and remove some oil then start the engine and check it and add as above.

I haven't heard of adding oil through the filter orifice as a routine procedure.

Youre welcome. You asked about priming the engine. I think the accusump is the best way to do that. Whats your problem with that?

Agreed. Don't think I've ever seen an Accusump on a 348 before since the oiling system is pretty effective as is, but the ability to prime the engine before starting is great, especially for cars that sit for long periods. Did you install that yourself?

Also, what is the purpose of the extra hoses T-ing into the intake air hoses? Is that a turbo car? Fess up! :)

I am not sure if i follow the op but you can not check the oil level without the engine either running or immediately after shut down.
If the tank shows max when not running its overfilled.
You probably want it below the min before you start it.
You can check it while running so start below min, start the car and see where it comes to. For proper level wait till oil is at operating temp.

After draining the oil dump in 10 quarts then run the engine for a few minutes. Kill the engine and check oil level (which will likely be below the minimum) then top up as needed (I would suggest half a quart at a time and checking level each time)

Yes i installed it myself. Its connected to the oil filter housing. Its nice to "lube her up" before start when it has been sitting for a while :)

I think those t-hoses reduce intake noice. My exhaust sounds enough so they can stay.

Interesting. Never seen that done on a 348 before, but most of us aren't too worried about noise. Noticed the wrapping on your exhaust so figured it might be a turbo car. Doesn't look like you have much muffling. Start a new thread to introduce yourself and tell us about the car. Always fun to see what mods are out there.

Edit: I suck at parsing and multiple quotes so see my additional comment in the quoted portion.

Its an electric valve controlled by a retractive switch under the steering console. So i just hold it to prime the engine. The valve automaticly lets a little oil pass by the other way so the tank fills automaticly while driving. Canton Racing Products

Nothing special with my car. Just a homemade exhaust with racecats and tiny tiny mufflers.

I doubt this is what you're seeing, but I wanted to write in just in case.... I've heard of two separate incidents where people drained their transaxle and then filled the engine. When this is done, the oil will back up into the reservoir tank.

Thanks Dr Bob! That is the ticket. After dumping 10 quarts and adding 10 quarts it shows overfilled on the stick prior to starting. Not sure it is technically overfilled though that measurement seems a wag until started. Anyway I pulled 1 quart out and it was at Max prior to starting. Started it and had to add a quart again after full warm-up to get between min Max.

The frustration not being able to drive yesterday was fixing a flat tire, and the big hose clamps directly under the intake manifold. It required an endoscope, laptop and 1/4" rig to get to it because hands can't get in there without removing stuff.
