Sure we know, I'm following your modifications on the yellow 1987 since about 10 years on LTalk.

Here the specs of the Marine engines: Lamborghini Motori Marini

    The regular QV engine has
    Bore 85.5
    Stroke 75
    The marine engines have
    Bore 87
    Stroke 75 or 80

I guess the cylinder liners got to thin for road use, we are speaking of race marine engine getting overhouled several times, not street engine which were designed to last 100t KM +.

To be fair, that's common-knowledge amongst Countach & Lamborghini enthusiasts everywhere.

Just as a matter of interest, how much weight do you believe will be saved from the engine with these modifications?

Enquiring minds would like to know etc. :)

Looks like quite an ambitious project.

A few years ago I visited Bob Wallace. He was quite candid regarding some of the modified engines he built for Lamborghini. Extreme lightening of components and especially turbocharging resulted in lots of broken parts. He considered it all a big mistake.

The “Driver’s Handbook” for the vintage Lambos are blessed with detailed technical information. For example the flow rate for the Espada water pump is listed at 12.6 l/min at 1000 rpm and 94.2 l/min at 6500 rpm. So an increase in HP would require a +100 l/min electric water pump … or some serious engineering gyrations.
Also what are the temperature (under pressure) ratings for the Jabsco Water pumps?

Davies Craig also makes a very attractive controller. Here is a reference to a relevant combination:
    EWP115 Alloy Kit (12V) - PART No: 8040 -
LCD EWP & FAN DIGITAL CONTROLLER - PART No: 8000 -

Which can be had much cheaper on eBay:
    Davies Craig 8850 | eBay

Here is another source for electric water pumps with reasonable flow rates (and somewhat unreasonable prices):
    Stewart Components

Yeah, but making them last and pleasant to drive on the street, that requires skills :)

You are right, few care about the details.

Factory engineer Luigi Marmirolli told me a couple of months ago that they built a 5,825 c.c. dry-sumped unit (engine code 509i) developing 585 bhp @ 7,000 rpm, based on the Countach QV engine, for Group C racing. They changed engine rotation from left to right, and fed it through an electronic injection system. It was tested extensively @ Monza test October 1986.

A couple of years ago I bought two EWP electric water pumps, with controllers, for a project, which was abandoned for other reasons. Since then these unused pumps are laying around. It is the lightweight version with plastic housing (reinforced nylon), at that time purchased from ISA racing. If someone has use for one, please give me a notice, I will be happy to clear space. For "compensation", just donate an amount deemed appropriate to a non-profite organization of your choice.

If interested, I can look up the specs. I believe to recall that the flow rate is 80 l/min at 13.xx Volt. Operating temperature up to 130°C.

    Cheers, Bernhard

P.S.: I would believe that maximum flow rates of 30 something l/min. would not be sufficient for larger engines. Temperature differences should not be all too high, so that high flow rates are needed for the given amount of heat energy to be removed.

P.P.S.: These are the ones I have: http://www.isa-racing.com/product_info.php/info/p5383_Elektronische-Wasserpumpe-EWP80--komplett-mit-Anbauteilen.html

They actually are EWP80 from Davies Craig (Electric Water Pump EWP80).

I had one of those in the prior version of my Jalpa tt and it was just not adequate. The radiator fans were continuously running during freeway cruising and I (and Valentino :)) could only do a maximum of 3 laps on "Streets of Willow" before the engine started overheating (sunny June day in the desert).

    Laust

PS I think I have now said enough on this subject on Chad's very interesting and inspiring "Countach Super Engine" thread.
