When you lose, especially the way Aldo did, I don't see any interest in revisiting it. UFC are smart, they want money fights - Aldo is not a revenue generator, McGregor is. That combination right there should tell Dana White not to make a rematch. Like Barao, I never thought Aldo was as dominant as he seemed - no one is, other than Jon Jones, and even Gustaffson exposed that. If you lose, step aside and let next in line have a shot. Much like Rousey, I don't think Aldo has a chance against McGregor - it was clear McGregor got in his head (which is a major weakness for Aldo). Might not be 13 second knockout, but I think he would get destroyed (see Dillashaw / Barao II). I want to see Edgar against McGregor before Aldo.
+1 Edgar is overdue for a shot. If Aldo/McGregor had been close, then I'd want to see an immediate rematch, but it was far from that.
If Rousey gets a rematch, Aldo deserves one more! To me, that fight was like it really didn't even happen. But yes, Edgar vs McGregor, I'd LOVE to see that. ...and yes, the UFC is all about the money. Aldo was not a big money attraction.
Cerrone vs dos Anjos tonight! Go Cowboy! One of my fave fighters right now........ Great overall card tonight.
dos Anjos! Holy crap, this guy is good. Complete domination over Cerrone - didn't think that was possible. This guy will be around for a while.
Wow, the Lawler/Condit fight was incredibly close. I could have seen the nod going either way. And how about Stipe? Very impressive over Arlovski. All talk is of him getting a shot with the winner of Velasquez/Werdum 2.
I was surprised that Stipe had such a hick accent. I like him more now. He's a real country boy. Lawler vs Condit was such a toss up for me. I think i was happy they gave it to Lawler though.
So rumor is McGregor will be facing Rafael dos Anjos. All I can say is boo, UFC. Frankie Edgar gets screwed, again.
So the rumor is now reality... I've become a big McGregor fan over the past couple years so I am still excited to see how he will do against Dos Anjos at lightweight but, Frankie Edgar totally got shafted. He knew it was coming too. Frankie deserves a title shot sooner rather than later with the wins he's been piling up. Knocking out Mendes like he did was very impressive. I think he even shocked himself with that ko. Anyway it looks like Frankie will have to wait for that title shot. Win or lose its going to be a nice pay day$$$
Yupper. Judges' scorecards were all over the place though. Not sure how one scored it 49-46 in T.J.'s favor. It was a good fight, and T.J. did well, but Cruz just floats around - such incredible movement. The frustration in T.J.'s face was undeniable. Cruz claims that it was his foot that made him wobbly towards the end - I don't know if I buy that. I hope to heck it isn't really another knee issue.
I was never a Cruz fan. But building up to this fight, I just wanted him to beat TJ. I started appreciating his style as the fight went on. Im happy he won. It'll bring TJ back down to earth, I hope.
Where this now gets interesting is do they have Faber fight TJ for a shot at the title, or do they give Faber the immediate title shot..........? I'm not sure which fight I would be more excited to see.
Would be more interested in TJ vs Urijah. I don't think they can beat Cruz. The other guy who is rocking, is the heavyweight, Frabricio Werdum. That guy is amazing on the floor and finally learned how to punch. Maybe (a big one) there really is hope for Rhonda. She could learn lessons from both Cruz's comeback and Werdum's ability to learn how to box relatively late in his career...
Rafael Dos Anjos sustained a broken foot and won't be fighting Conor McGregor at UFC 196. It's been reported that Aldo's camp doesn't think there's enough time to train, Edgar has an unspecified injury (the man is snake bitten!!!), and UFC said no to Khabib Nurmagomedov (probably know he'd smoke McGregor). You know Cowboy Cerrone is up to the task, as is Nate Diaz. I would love to see either fighter lay a whooping down on the loud mouth McGregor, and I think he's in over his head. Don't get me wrong, I love what McGregor does for the sport, and he's a good fighter. But he reminds me of Mike Tyson - a lot of bluster, but when faced with a real challenge, he ultimately folded. While McGregor has beaten some impressive opponents, the fights haven't been so (other than this last bout with Aldo, I'll give him that). The UFC screwed up. They should not have allowed McGregor to bump weight and fight RDA - the right answer was Edgar. Now they are scrambling. No one could have seen this coming, but it's like bad karma. With the Reebok deal, and some of the stupid moves UFC has been making, the luster is wearing off a little. I still love it, but they need to think a little more with what they are doing.
This was one of the most exciting fights I was looking forward to. I agree, letting Conor go up a weight class to fight for a title there without even having defended the FW title is a little ridiculous. The UFC is obviously fully on board the McGregor hype train, much like they were on the Rousey hype train. I guess I can't blame them, as he is putting asses in seats, and getting PPVs sold. May as well ride the gravy train until it derails, which I felt was going to happen against RDA. RDA is a freaking beast! It is quite the story though, especially after KOing Aldo as quickly and easily as he did. I don't think the story would repeat itself in a rematch, though. Edit: Just read that Nate Diaz will fight McGregor.............
Yeah, Khabib Nurmagomedov is a bear of a grappler... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjE6X1Wb2pw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FT1MnlooGsY
They skipped over Cowboy cos they knew he could totally beat Mac. Cowboy was primed and ready coming off an easy win. Nate.... Eh, not so much. Feeding him to McGregor
I agree Cowboy would smoke him. Diaz, of recent times, has looked great - I think this is a close fight. It's too bad people don't like the Diaz boys shtick, and their problems with the law have haunted them. They are extremely talented, I've grown to appreciate their desire to improve, fun to watch once you get past the bravado. Nate will be ready for this one.
I love the Diaz brothers! One thing is for sure - the trash talking between the two, before the fight and during, will be incredibly entertaining!
I see it differently. Before the fight, there will be **** talking with McG hitting Diaz real hard. Diaz will get emotional and then killed in the fight. Mark
Not much faith in Nate, huh? I wouldn't write him off so quickly. McGregor is very used to being the bigger guy, with the longer reach. Not so in this case. Nate has got 1" in height, and 2" in reach over Connor. Combine that with his striking style, it will make for a very interesting fight. If it goes to the ground, McGregor will get submitted.
