Did anyone else watch tonight's GS-OKC game?

    Holey- Moley!

    In case you missed it, the Cooks version;

    - GS guy (Andre) makes both free throws with no time on the clock to force overtime.

    - Game is tied with 0.6secs left in OT when Steph launches from about midway between the arc & 1/2 court - "way downtown" as they say. It hits *nothing* but net.....

    :)

    'This is why we watch'

    Cheers,
    Ian

Yup! Saw it and Steph just tied the record for the most 3 points in a game, 12 threes and I know it won't be long, he will break the record someday soon. Go Warriors!

Different era, different styles of play.

In the long run, who will hold the records? Steph, Wilt, Michael or someone else?

You style your play after what works. I have a nephew playing professional basketball in Greece, he's about 6'10" tall, was a center in college, and is hitting 39% of his 3's now. 6'10" tall and shoots 3's. Fifteen years ago they probably wouldn't have let him stand more than 10' from the basket.

There was no 3 point line when Wilt played. Michael Jordan was not a perimeter player either, that wasn't the way basketball was played. Who knows, in ten years, maybe less, the 3 point line will move out another 5', and the perimeter game will once again shrink.

But to call this, "The greatest season ever" for a player when the season isn't even over? Let's talk at season end, and then again in ten years.

Ok, I'm all done with this. But you can't have a discussion about greatest seasons, without a look at all the data.

I still can watch this over and over again...
[VIDEO] Stephen Curry?s Three-Pointer: Watch His Last Minute Warriors Game Win - Hollywood Life

OKC, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook played as good as a game as can be played, they roughed up Curry several times and almost ended his season with a grab and trip fall during a fast break lay up attempt that caused Curry to severely roll his left ankle... he had to leave the game and went into the locker room where many of us had the terrible thought that he may be done for the season...then he comes back from the dead and performs with the most clutch game that I have ever seen...and he has had a lot of them this year!

That's a shame. You've made, & continue to make, some very valid points - Again, as a relative newbie, I for one at least have learnt a little here.

Anyway, I agree about looking at the data. And it's still fairly early days for him yet, but you must surely admit his record is already pretty good - two titles - and as others have noted, he's putting up #'s & breaking record(s) that would have been considered impossible not long ago.

I'm also gonna note this could easily turn into another of those 'who's the GOAT' debates that pop up in the F1 forum every now & again. They'll often drift along for many pages, and, as always, we wind up 'begging to differ.' ;)

For sure, Wilt & Oscar must be in the frame. Then there's Michael; right now probably my guy. But I think Stephs rapidly getting into the discussion at least; as you say, the stats tell us this.

    Cheers,
    Ian

    Great stuff.

The other thing with them is everyone, from Steve Kerr to the towel boys, seems to be enjoying it. They're having fun!

Sure, it's a lot easier to have fun when you're kicking arse, but from my viewpoint at least enjoying it really helps. All sport, from the 'lowliest' amateurs to the mighty NFL & high end soccer should always remain fun IMO. Unfortunately, that doesn't always seem to be the case.

    Cheers,
    Ian
PS - I too was in shock when I looked at what happened to Stephs ankle last night. Was almost 'in tears' when I saw him heading to the locker room. :( That he came back & won the game is awesome! :)

    Still enjoy reading the good old fashioned hard copy newspaper on a Sunday morning. From the sports section;

Deep on P4 they note the Warriors only led for 29.4 seconds of the entire game!..... Hopefully, #'s to the right are legible to all.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Dave, you are correct in everything you say here. I started up this discussion to hype how good of a season Steph Curry is having. He is definitely ascending into the discussion of greatest players, where it is obviously too early too early to say this. It is all fun discussion...All these records mean nothing if the Warriors do not win another championship this year...this is what is important, and I am sure if you ask Steph Curry he would say this too. I was just trying to wake everyone up to watch something special that is happening before our eyes, as cure has truly ascended into the player of his era.

Mike, good to hear from you and hope you are doing well...I have had tickets for the OKC game this Thursday that I bought a month ago, as I had never been able to see Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook play in person and I couldn't get tickets for last months game. In light of last night's game and the upcoming possibiltitu of breaking the Consecutive home winning streak record, I am really looking forward to going to the game after work on Thursday! Ready for another great show!

Good to hear from you too Albert! You are so lucky to have a ticket. You know I have been a loyal fan of the GSW since the 70s and always will. Have fun at the game and take some pics if you can.

Got to watch Curry play and beat my Magic in person Thursday night here in Orlando. He makes it look too easy. His three pointer at the end of the third was a heartbreaker. Their were so many warriors fans at the game in Orlando it was weird...

This is a sign, Curry has transcended into Jordan territory where HE is the draw at all games now, home and away. Warriors and Curry becoming everyone's favorite.

I'm in agreement with others...they look to be enjoying themselves while WINNING with greatness. Fun combo for fans.

I'm a huge cavs fan and still hurting from the finals last year but Curry is impossible to root against.

The rest of that team is hate-able but not Curry

Wish I could say I feel sorry for you, but I'd be lying! ;)

    Gotta love Klay too, surely?

There's a few guys I'm not going to single out that aren't as 'likable', but overall even if you're not a fan there's none that are close to hate-able IMO. They work well together, the chemistry seems very, very, good and again, it seems to me they're having fun.

I too believe we're witnessing something special.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Many are even showing up early to watch his pre-game warmup routine too! (If you haven't seen it, it's pretty good..... :))

Reminds me of when Bonds was breaking records. *He* was the draw. OK, the wheels fell off later, but he made the bean counters happy for quite a few years.

And they break another record tonight; 45 consecutive home wins. Most in NBA history.

    We're watching something special folks.

The day after they dropped a game by a BUNCH of points to a very bad Lakers team, which ain't particularly special.

    "Can't win 'em all...."

Agreed they didn't play wall against the Lakers, but they're still having a history making season.

And Steph, the subject of this thread, is playing as good as the game's ever been played.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Warriors just broke the record for the most consecutive home games of 45 straight wins beating the Bulls record of 44. And Curry now have 300 3's so far and counting.

    And another nice win tonight.

We really are watching history being made here folks! Not just Steph, but the entire team is just clicking - The bench was great tonight too.

If you're not watching & enjoying this you really can't call yourself a basketball fan! Maybe not even a sports fan..... Even if you're not a Warriors fan, you really should watch.

    Cheers,
    Ian

The talking heads on ESPN are now saying he's the greatest shooter of all time!

He's made somewhere around 50% of his shots from way downtown (>35' I believe), the rest of the league is under 10% from such range.

    Cheers,
    Ian

And another record broken in their win tonight..... Warriors & Trailblazers scored a combined 37x3 pointers. Never been done before.

71 points from the Splash Brothers.

Can they go the entire season undefeated at home?

    Fun stuff.
    Cheers,

    Holy-Moley!

I really thought the home win streak may be over tonight; They're down 11 at the end of the 3rd against friggin' *Phoenix* of all people! Then Steph (& tonight, Mo) bring them back in the 4th for a 123-116 win!

    Fantastic stuff!

Steph really is rewriting history IMO. Just incredible stuff.

"This is why we watch." ;)

    50 consecutive home wins now.....

Steph's now got a record breaking 30+ games with over 30 points etc.

And he doesn't even get to play in the 4th quarter in these blowouts.

I accept the game is different to when Walt & Oscar played, but surely everyone must agree we're watching something very special right now?

    Cheers,
    Ian
