I could have swapped jobs with Tim Cook last year. My wife and I discussed it, but I don't know if Tim had any conversations with Apple about making the move.

I could've gotten a LaFerrari. My dog and I discussed it, but I don't know if the bank had any conversations around lending me the money for the purchase.

    :D

    Very good! ;)

History does tell us though that driving for Ferrari is much more 'pressure' laden than anywhere else. The expectations are always high, the interest in the team drawfs any of the others and so on. It's one thing if they're winning, but if not, look out! I can see where he's coming from.

Interesting, if true, that they offered him a long term deal. I kinda respect the guy for deciding to move on, even if it looks like a disaster right now......

    Cheers,
    Ian

If anyone on the grid can make that donkey win, it's Fernando, that's for sure, he can get the most out of any car. Ferrari would have been fourth after the rest if not for his efforts with the three legged pony we gave him

I really don't get the praises toward Alonso. To me this is a driver living from the past. He got a good run at Renault, where he got two titles. Went to Ferrari and did not much while there. Now he is just a talking head spinning around the track while collecting good money.
I don't see him getting the 3rd title, regardless of which team he is at.
    Next, please....

Right, if Alonso was such an "over-praised" driver, I wonder how his teammates should be described as...

Some credit needs to be given to Alonso; he definitely outdrove the equipment given to him and earned wcc points for a dog that had no place to even be earning points.

He may have not been able to win w Ferrari, but to say he "did not do much" is beyond ignorant and laughable.

Take a look at what he's done in recent years. I dislike Alonso but his talent is immense.

3rd title? Slim chance of that happening indeed.

Careful...you can't say anything like that here. Repeat after me...

    Fred is the greatest
He'd have won everything if it wasn't for Ferrari sabotaging him
He's the best at bringing a team together...humble and a team player
    He's magic

If you don't agree then you're either just stupid to you never watched a single race.

    Hindsight is 20/20.

Strange times at Merc back then. Schumacher hadn't said whether he would stay or leave, and everyone was awaiting his decision. Then, at a driver's press conference, Hamilton announces he is going with Merc - which left us with the answer that Schumacher was leaving Merc.

Likable personality or not, Alonso had good reason to be uncomfortable with Ferrari. He was considered a world champion who could push his under-performing F-car (nicknamed the big red dog) beyond expectation.

At the time, Alonso was an in-demand world champion, wanted by all the teams as well as being courted by Honda. Ultimately, his decision to leave was based on Honda's ability to meet his financial request as well as him thinking he could win another world championship in the immediate future.

In other words, with everything within reach around the corner, he zigged instead of zagged.

What Alonso is suggesting was that he would get Hamilton's drive for 2015, not 2013 or 2014.

I like from time to time to spend a few minutes about what could have been, missed opportunities, etc...interesting to think that some directions may have been influenced by the smallest event; "what if", etc...

    BUT: the main question is:
"Fernando, when will you win a Grand Prix again? And if so, when will you win that elusive last championship"?
(and perhaps; "why do you think you have not already won that third championship that everyone thought was overdue? In what measure was it your fault")

In other words, as we say in French: "Si ma tante en avait, elle serait mon oncle" ("If my aunt got some, she then would be my uncle")

In my opinion? No. I think he benefits greatly from the hype that's so often repeated. And just because it is often repeated... doesn't make it true. He's a great driver and very talented... no doubt. The greatest? Nope. The best right now or in the past few years... nope.

Just like everyone kept repeating that Seb was a mediocre driver who just happened to plop himself into the best car during his four WDC's... it's parroting that just somehow becomes fact to a lot of people.

For me.. when I think of what makes the great drivers.. it's not just how they perform on the track. It's how they work with the team. Do they bring the team together and create synergy or do they have minimal or even detrimental impact? There are people who are able to bring out the very best in others and create that 2+2=5 theory while others keep the equation balanced or worse.

Seb for instance... will likely be known as one of the "best" drivers not just because of his driving, but because he loves his team, respects his team, and see himself as part of the team. Alonso? Sure... it's funny that he pulled up in a lawn chair to sun himself after another ridiculous breakdown.. but those actions outweigh the words. How do you think his team really felt? I imagine insulted. One could argue that it's that sort of in-your-face disregard spurns people on because they don't want to feel that way again... maybe. You could also argue it demoralizes the guys who were up all night working on the car who may just care a bit less next time around. It's okay to be a pima donna... I think you sort of have to be when you've achieved and are operating among the very best in the world... at anything. But at the same time... it's the less visible attributes that truly make greatness and I just don't hear those things about him.

Again... just my opinion. I don't hate the guy at all... I don't think he's not a great driver... I don't think he's boring to watch... I just don't have the quite the affinity for him that some of his fans do.

In time, Alonso will be soon a forgotten double world champion, and instead known for nonsense comments, like an old man.

Should, If, But....the 2007 fallout with Mclaren didn't happen, it will be a whole different situation for Nando today.

Exactly. He lost his professional credibility for that and now is a glorified test / development driver. He won't be with a winning team again.

Is this out of context? It just sounds way to silly for any modern F1 driver to say on record!!!
