As the title above suggest, which upcoming aftermarket exhaust would generate the best F1 sound ?

Curious, does anyone know if the Capristo switch work on the factory 488 exhaust?

Depends on which F1 you are talking about. Its impossible to generate NA-F1 sound because no matter what you do, 488 wont scream. But possible for turbocharged-F1, which is just make it louder.

The exhaust in the 488 is essentially a straight through system direct flow out from the cats ..hardly any of the exhaust gasses flow through the muffler when the valve is open, hence the muffler system is absolutely tiny ..[IMG]

Well the hottest exhaust company in the aftermarket industry right now is Akrapovic with their Titanium systems. They'll be releasing their 488 application very soon and if their other products are anything to go by, it'll be something special.

Capristo controller should work. Also the Forza controller. As long as the 488 uses vacuum actuated bypass valves, and I believe it does.

I would go to Capristo and Forza websites and check for compatibility

Turbo cars are inheritantly quiter than NA cars. The turbo charger will quiet the exhaust noise as well as substantly improve the exhaust gas scavenging effect. So not only do you get a boost in pressure in the intake manifold, but you also get improve scavenging of the exhaust gases in the exhaust manifold. This improves the overall engine efficiency and results in additional noise abatement. The 488 will not sound like a NA car. And, it is unlikely that an aftermarket exhaust system will either. That said, I expect aftermarket exhausts will provide better sound than stock. Time will tell which exhaust tuners will bubble to the top.

I understand, no matter what we do to the 488 it will not scream like a 458 series. Just Hoping to know what would be best aftermarket improvement towards the sound.

On almost 75% of the 488GTB we have delivered, we have bypassed the exhaust valves.

You should try that before dropping the $$ on an aftermarket option.

Don't get me wrong, Tubi race system on a Scuderia will make the hairs stand up on your arm!

I purchased the black exhaust from factory for the 488 for the looks. Would the capristo switch really make that much of a difference, isn't it just having the exhaust behave the same as open exhaust as if you have your foot on the pedal not any different sound or volume?

I've driven F40's... I don't know why everyone makes such a big deal about them, other than the fact that they are a limited production Ferrari. I was entirely unimpressed with the F40. To each his own, but it never did much for me. I'd take the F50 or Enzo (or of course, LaF) over an F40 any day. I'd also take a 458 or Speciale over an F40.

Ever wonder why F40's successors never ever turbocharged again? The only downside about F40 is the turbo. Even in F40, the turbo had only performance in mind, while in 488 the turbo is for tree hugger's obsession.

The use of the Capristo or the Forza controller Will allow the user to manually open or close the exhaust bypass valves The net effect would be the same as if you just put your foot down and had wide-open throttle But you get this effect without necessarily having wide-open throttle For substantially less money you can just disconnect the vacuum lines at the exhaust bypass valves Ferrari owners have been doing this for years with all the cars that have exhaust bypass valves. The use of the controllers do give you more flexibility though

There are, but just to make it louder. Forget about the scream. From now on, we need to lower expectation for sound. Many SUV now can sound equal to Ferrari's mid-V8, just get used to it.

Neither the 458 nor the 488 will ever sound like an actual modern N/A F1 racer, because they do not use free flowing engines revving to 18+ rpm. Some manufactures make exhausts that are designed to simulate that sound, but it will never be the real deal. It sounds artificial and you can always hear the normal sound of the engine and its actual rpms below the thin synthetic sound. As for whether or not a sound similar to the 458 can be achieved is quite doubtful. Is that a problem for me? No, I like the sound of the 488. Different? Yes, better? No.
