plus additional buttons at the steering wheel plus incorrect piping at the seats plus ... No, that is not a great car but a tinkered car.
"An in-period after-market steering wheel is the only notified deviation from factory specification" Very funny comment... ;-) Still, it's a very early car, if I read correctly, Assembly Number should be 121, this car could be worth way more than its current estimation if it was slightly modified and brought back to its original shape.
differs 7 cars from mine. I'd love to know the assembly number and see how that differs from my #3. I could try to find out through Bonhams maybe, 'll give it a try. So just the correct mirror/14"wheels/single exhaust/ditch the "launch control buttons" and the red stripes on the seats and we're 30/40 K further ? Can't really grasp that.. Nevertheless I'd get the OEM part first before selling/auctioning such a car. Should cost quite a bit less than with auction price for an all original car now, shouldn't it ?
If my understanding is correct, the highest bid was 150 K euros (without buyer's premium) but the reserve wasn't met and the car didn't sell.
The site shows: Lot 369 Ferrari 308 GT « Vetroresina » Berlinette 1976 Sold for €161,000 (US$ 180,416) incl. premium Not bad. I do think the Gooding sale was a fluke, a high water mark, possibly reflective of where prices may go. Not necessarily the market value for any 308 VR. That said, you owners have done very well in recent years.
The listing for the car that sold at Bonhams today said the car sat in storage for 7 years and was registered in Greece. Two things that hardly instill confidence. The car today was likely far way from a restored car.
Update on this topic?? Before I throw more fuel on this bonfire..... I have found NO other mentions of the blue car or the 288 GTO lookalike. Despite Matthias Urban stating that the black FIA approved Grp4 look car was possibly #20153, it has since appeared in white at Retromobile this year with SABA livery? And recently listed with 99999 as a temporary ch number pending on authenticity? In the "get out the calculator" thread there was also mention that there is officially claimed to be 2 with the same ch number. Is this confirmed by official sources? Just curious...... there is another one...... lol
Silence is deafening....... Alot of views, no comments. I guess this means NO additional info has been uncovered. Having spent 3 days with this "20005", documenting everything from A to Z, there is NO doubt that this specific 308 was on the assembly line in 1976. There are features on this car that were ONLY present before '77, hence corresponding to the ch #. Preparing extensive documentation with photos that will be submitted shortly for a verification process. In the meantime, photos of the car, the first public outing after export from Switzerland, first from a trackday event in 2008 on dealer plates and a photo of the side window ID stamped, ALL the glass on this car stamped individually. Good looking 308. The red mirrors, 16 inch wheels and the horsey on the front grill weren't on the assembly line in 76. ;-)
16" wheels fitted by me for the trackday in 2008, other mods most likely done when the car was resprayed red from its original color sometime in history, and the original color is NOT red.
I received an unexpected surprise today. When I bought my car, the dealer told me it didn't have the original engine so the car was discounted an appropriate amount. A friend (Carl888) got me a heritage certificate (I think that's what it's called) for my car and tada.....the engine number matches what's in the car. The dealer was wrong! I better send him some more money. That's definitely not a bad thing. Ch# 19925 Eng# 1706
Peter, what surprises me here, is that the engine number of your early vetro car is so close to the engine number of my very late car. Ch# 34379 Eng# 1719 (drysump) If this would be a drysump vs. wetsump thing, it would confuse me even more. Best Regards Martin
I have no answer! I, along with many others, have been confused with Ferrari numbering for many years.
So here's what happened: One day, around 1976, in the Engine foundry of the Maranello plant... Marco: Hey, Luigi! Here is the next 308 engine for you to stamp! Luigi: Thanks, Marco. So... F106A0201718. Aaaaand good to go! Marco: By the way, how was your party last night? Luigi: Oh, my, I was soooo wasted, I'm not sure I'm seeing clearly right now! Marco: Ha ha! Good old Luigi! OK, here's the next 308 engine for you to stamp! Luigi: Thanks, soooo F106A0201719, here you are! Marco: NOOOOO! That's a dry sump engine! Luigi: Oh, shoot... Too late! This one got here a little earlier than expected, but it would have happened one day anyway, wouldn't it? Marco: Yes, I guess it will be a good way to make the "Ferrari mistery" a little deeper... Only explaination I see...
