I had to share and post this beautiful pic taken during flight....it is impressive to see that composite wing flexing under aerodynamic stresses. nice airplane.

Ditto, what the are odds of actually getting a shot like that on purpose?

 

I aimed at the flexed wing....got lucky to catch the sunlight coming from behind the engine. cheers

 

I think that the odds might be pretty good with the digital camera nowadays. Aren't the shudder speeds pretty quick now? Interesting shot.

 

Not to distract from the awesome photo. Ethiopian is having some rough luck with there 787's... First the ELT fire now looks like another is going to need some repairs after a nose gear collapse.

Have to wonder about the maintenance and ops procedures in third world countries like that.

 

My thoughts exactly.
Once the aircraft is in the hands of the airline anything can happen that isn't necessarily the fault of design.
If maintenance procedures aren't followed exactly, all bets are off.

I don't know for sure but the gear one the 787 looks very much similar to that used on the 767. Both planes are pretty close to the same size. If that is the case, the gear is very robust and well proven.

I always tell people that are afraid of flying that the best airplane to fly on is one fresh out of the factory....

Reader comments below the link indicate, "......... nose gear pin is not installed: if push-back has been initiated. Per Ethiopian/Boeing SOP nose gear pin has to be installed during push-back and towing even if there is hydraulic pressure."
