Lots of Teslas is sold in my country of love, Norway. I have spoken to a couple of owners in the village I stay in, and they both said one of the main reason for them buying one was cost. No ( or negligible) taxation on electric cars in Norway.

I'll stick with the loud, rumbling, car shaking excitement of a gas powered multi cylinder engine to get my jollies on the road. But I prefer electric on the golf course! lol

In 2014 and YTD 2015 you would have done better buying FIAT "FCAU" than Tesla.

Morgan Stanley just raised its price target for TSLA to $465. At that level the market cap will be around $61B.

Keep in mind GM has a market cap of $50B, and Ford $60B.

TSLA, going by market capitalization, would be the largest car manufacturer in the US.

    Simply crazy.

Has anyone here been following the electric Ferrari thread?
    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/308-328/462672-1978-308-gts-ev-conversion.html

This might end up being what we all do to our Ferrari's in 30 years, as one assumes the resrtictions on driving combustion engine cars are only going to get tighter.

Upside- An electric vehicle will blow away a combustion engine any day in terms of performance. Anyone who has ever seen a train move will attest to their power.
Downside: No vroom vroom sounds. :(

    That's the main reason.

    Artificially created government driven demand.

TSLA is now back to summer of 2013 levels at $150.
2.5 years of gains evaporated in 6 weeks.

Chopped in half since last summer.
Late buyers taken out to slaughter.

That's the thing about overhyped bubble stocks of mania companies with no actual profits.
    They crumble quickly and violently.

Anyone with any basic understanding of investing knew this company was a spectacularly overhyped overvalued bubble.

At what price(s) did JERRYZ buy his shares?
Shares were $250 when he started this thread in 2014,
so JERRYZ has taken a sound beating on his investment in this tulip company.

If the $100K+ Model S is not recommended by Consumer Reports due to poor reliability, what can be expected of their $35K model?

For me, I can't imagine will be driving Tesla any day soon.
Actually..once a while, I love to tease Tesla drivers with my Maserati exhaust sound.
Few months ago, as I caught up with a white model S, I pushed the throttle few times and resulted in a brief car chase! It's kind of Childish but I got a kick out of it!

    Cheers,

One of the two best parts of owning a Ferrari. If you don't drool over the warm-up and desire the kick and bounce the engine gives the car even during warm up then you are simply not a car person.

I do think that most utilitarian vehicles should use some cheap form of synthetic propulsion for the large masses. Maybe provide full connectivity so they can get some code in and emails sent before actually getting to their desk. They will be much more efficient that way and don't need to know that the company execs have monster V12s in their garages and lust for the next LE. Win-win.

Muftah, did you mean you were chasing the white model S? Were you able to keep up?

    It depends on the model.

The P90S with ludicrous mode would blow the Maserati away.
    0-60 in 2.9 Sec.

I see electric and ICE existing together for many decades.

EV is still too expensive without subsidies and EV companies are not making money on the vehicles.

Battery remains 50% of the BOM cost.

Current technology curve flattens out in 3-5 years and the new manufacturable tech is not clear yet.

True, but it's my understanding that the advantage goes to the Maserati after 60/70 mph

Perhaps train for subway or city-city but was thinking more bus or electric/hybrid commuter vehicle for home-work. The Ferrari should remain raw as intended. :)

    Yes guys,
I caught up, Pump the throttle few times to get his attention and make him realize what Music he is missing. I passed him, and he didn't like it and ended up in a brief car chase "about 1/2 a mile or so" but the tesla couldnt regain the lead.

IMHO..Tesla wasn't able to beat my 012 Maserati QP due to:
    * we were already in motion and not starting from 0-60!
**My car is crazy in the SPORT MODE..has many performance mods; MPSS tires, FD light big break kit, titanium bolts
"shaved approx 30lb of unsprung weight", DBW, ECM, Larini cats and valved exhaust system.
*** Moderatly busy two lane highway And I am pretty good driver.

I was wondering if he made any money. He could have sold at the peak but what's the highest it's been something like $280? So if he bought in right around his original post it would have been around $200. Might have made some money but would have had to have timed it pretty right. If he's still holding he's now losing.

Why don't you compair annual costs of ownership for a year? The tesla does not have a transmission. Put a gearbox in that car and you are dust in the wind. But it really doesn't need one either. Point is, it gave you a hard time. Remember also; the Tesla is the "model "T" of the electric car.

I am not, in anyway, stating which car is better, each one is entitled to his own opinion,
And every one can chose whatever floats his boat!
I am a respectable driver and not trying to be offensive here, but occasionally, I like to tease the very fast quiet cars. Everyone acknowledge..Tesla is a great technological innovation in the modern car industry and beyond. Tesla Battery "powerwall solor" are now being used as a backup power supply for homes that utilize solor energy.

    Cheers,

    Muftah

    No issue.

I have both. A Tesla and a Ferrari. The best of both worlds.

How much better would it have been if the brainpower was put towards reducing vehicle congestion instead of adding more cars to already overloaded infrastructure? Techies come up with ridiculous catchphrases while in reality they are making the world worse off.

The problem is too many cars not the powerplant driving them.
