I have a bag of spare caps I bought a year ago to save my butt someday in the future. I might have what you need. Its a full set from one 2V head.

    Peter,

How did you "break" a cam bearing cap?

Not trying to be a "dick" just want to make sure I don't do what you did.

Given that they are cast Al parts, it doesn't take much. the caps use a centering ring on the stud for location, due to the clearance getting them cockeyed is fairly easy, continual tighting will crack them and break them if they are off kilter. The other way it can happen is by the use of shim material that is too thick when trying to hold the cam from turning. One reason I've never been a fan of that method, if they were billet or forged pieces they would handle the stress a lot easier.

Will a spare part fit perfectly? Aren't they bored together with the mating head?
At least this is, what I have in my mind when removing or installing the camshafts. I take my time and loosen or tighten each nut just half a turn one after another.

    Best Regards
    Martin

Ideally the bore should be re-cut or reamed. There is a factory tool for such a job, it's a PITA but worth the effort. More then likely the spare cap will not line up correctly. I've had to re-do the bores on heads that once tq'd down had enough warp to need it. PITA job as the heads need to be tq'd down.

No, may not fit at all and that is why Ferrari only supplies them with the head.

Yes and that must be done. Most good automotive machine shops are equipped for that. Ferrari did make those tools available to the dealers and I have them but few shops do.
