I had been contemplating selling the GT3 and moving on to something else. However... We had an amazing weekend here in SW Missouri, so we went down to our lake house and took a couple cars. Had a nice drive on Sat. I got up at sunrise on Sunday and left before anyone else was up and went for a solo drive around the west end to Table Rock lake with the GT3. What an amazing time!!. I bonded with the car all over again!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Great shot Joe ! Had my mine out today as well...beautiful sunny day here in Atlanta Hope you are well Bill
Bill, I am well, thank you. I could not resist another driving episode today, at the end of which I gave it a bath before tucking it away. Image Unavailable, Please Login
If you're interested in a GT3 with a manual you may want to speak to your dealer. Next Porsche Cayman GT4 to stick with flat-six engine | Auto Express Preuninger also revealed that the 911 Rs new six-speed manual gearbox is likely to be offered in the second generation of the 991 GT3. I can certainly imagine this gearbox in the GT3, he said. There is some overlap, with the 911 R for purists and the GT3 RS for track day fans, and then the GT3 in the middle. Right now its just with PDK, but I can certainly imagine gen-2 GT3 getting this manual transmission.
Well, that is certainly a reversal of what he has espoused in the past! That said, the purpose for which I bought the 991 GT3 means I'll be sticking with PDK-S.
Enjoyed 3 days of tracking with MVP in the GT3 👍👍👍 Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hate to say it, I am leaving the GT3 brotherhood. I have had my car for almost 2 years and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I that's been one of my favorite cars I have ever owned. Time to move on.
You'll always have the memories! I'm only just beginning to know & learn about mine, it'll also be 2 years later this year. I agree, the 991 GT3 indeed has been one of my favorite cars also. Image Unavailable, Please Login
great shot! was nice to meet you...and your car bummer but if I know you something even cooler is in line behind it
I think there will be. I am up to 4 toys and have realized that it is not worth the incremental expense, and I do not have time to drive or maintains the lot. Also, I absolutely love the McLaren. Ideally, I wanted to move the GT3 and McLaren and get a 675 LT, but my nearest dealer is 6 hours away!! So I am moving the McLaren and the GT3 and heading the siren's song. More details to follow!!
Sold my 991 GT3 a few months ago and "replaced" with a 2016 991 turbo. Totally different experiences, one can't replace the other, thats for sure. I am staggered how much faster the turbo pulls than the gt3 though, well pretty much most all cars for that matter. Looking forward to getting another gt3 back at some point.
It honestly shocked me, I was not expecting the difference in speed between the two cars to be so dramatic. And I just have the NON S, fully stock. Any gear at any time, you touch the gas and if freaking launches you. I have winter tires on it and drive it in the snow as well, two toddlers in the back, one hell of a car. Only thing I can somewhat compare it to would be an FF. I'll be tossing on my M cup2 tires for upcoming track season and am looking forward to how she performs.
The turbo has all the best Porsche can offer, either turbo can be technically superior to a GT3 especially with all the nannys turned on, while the turbos supply gobs of torque, while the GT3 is limited by the GT3 class rules that limit what you can bring to a GT3 race, in interest in parity with other brands they race against. In order to race in GT3 class Porsche needs remove a lot of technology and limit power to normal aspiration. Over simplified the GT3 is stripper when compared to normal retail offerings except for the aero pkg and safety equipment.
I am fortunate enough to own both a '15 991 GT3 that I track and a '10 997.2 Turbo PDK that I use for long drives. I've been toying with the idea of replacing both with a 991.2 Turbo S. My dealer (Auto Palace in Pittsburgh) recently had an event featuring Hurley Haywood. I spoke with Hurley about tracking the GT3 vs. the Turbo S. He said that while the Turbo S is definitely capable of better lap times, the GT3 is the car to track if you're most interested in just having fun, which verified what I suspected. Conclusion: I'm keeping both cars.
Man that exige driver is all over the place, gt3 driver looks like he's on a leisurely Sunday drive. I used to track the living hell out of my gt3, and I can say with confidence it was sensational, so glued to the track, so balanced, predicable, stable at speed and under the hardest breaking and just gives you so much confidence at speed. A part of me died when I let it go
I'm only on the road and I can truly say I agree with that! I also really like the normally-aspirated disposition of the car for so many reasons, glorious soundtrack included.
A hearty AMEN! on the sound track. Even though I have an aftermarket exhaust on my Turbo, it will never sound as good as my GT3.
