Tonight should be good. Down to two choices, Hy's Steakhouse (high end CDN chain better then Ruth Chris), or Joe Fortes Seafood and Chop House. Local Vancouver higher end business casual restaurant.

My Dads 70th. birthday is tomorrow. My parents started a tradition once we became too old for toys, etc. Since we got most things on a regular basis, new clothes, etc. Presents became difficult. So when you hit 12 at my house, you could pick any restaurant you want for a birthday dinner. They continued this into adulthood. We also do it for my parents.

Did you grow up in Vancouver? I've never been but have only heard good things about the food scene there.

    Exactly.

Live in Southern California, so not an issue around here.

A lifespan of 4-6 hours? We tend to devour a batch in something like 4-6 minutes. Definitely not an issue around here.

Impossible! If you find yourself running out of chips, then I suggest you try switching to a spoon. :)

Apparently, you didn't read the discussion before joining and tossing in this completely irrelevant comment. Suggest you try reading first. (Don't mean to sound harsh, but if you're going to jump in and declare someone's opinion "ridiculous", you should at least have some clue what that opinion is.)

Yes I did. The food scene is excellent in Asian foods, all of Asia, including India, etc. North American foods, Italian, etc. not so much.

Did the Joe Fortes. It was good. My Dad knew the original owner and founder of the restaurant. It was better when he owned it. He owned two other restaurants under different names. He closed them down and sold off the Joe's. The other places, fine dining white table cloth seafood restaurants. Both well known but not saleable. Sort tells what kind of food scene Vancouver is. Its not an NYC or LA.

Power outages suck. Think the other day my power was out 10 seconds. :) generator. But if the power is out for more then 10 minutes my well pumps go out and I have total water loss.

Discovered pesto is extremely easy to make. Did chicken burgers with a little fresh pesto mayo. The leftover pesto sauce will be used tonight over linguine noodles.

Yeah and I mentioned it elsewhere but in 15+ years in my house it's never been out for more than an hour before. So this was an odd one that left just about a two square block area around my house dead for 24 hours or so. I still had water since I'm in city water. I know at one point the news was saying somewhere around 200,000 people were out of power Sunday night in the western half of the state just with the big power company. Not to mention a bunch more with the smaller municipal PUD's.

Pesto is great. Takes a lot of basil but it is good. I found one that didn't use oil but used zucchini instead. Sounds odd but it was actually really tasty too.

I saw the news on power out in many places in Washington State. My NBC, CBS, Fox and ABC are all out of Seattle. I have American Direct TV, but even if it was Canadian cable, most of the channels are out of Seattle.

Picked up some shrimp and scallops. Needed an extra kick besides just pesto.

Yeah it was pretty nuts. I even passed the semi truck blown over on it's side on the Narrow's bridge. 1 dead as powerful windstorm slams Western Washington | News, Weather, Sports, Breaking News | KOMO

The video on the ferry a little bit down that link is pretty nuts. Not the time you want to be the first in line I guess.

Wow. It got windy here, but not overly crazy. The ferry was nuts. My uncles (both my Dads brothers) are first officers, one is also a relief captain on the BC Ferries. If I go to the island, I time the trip for when they are working. If I get their boat. I get priority boarding. Bonus plus, I also get up to the bridge. On the spirit class, they have a huge couch, coffee, fresh donuts. I also get huge discount at the cafeteria and buffet. On the Victoria side, my aunts the operations manager. I get priority boarding even when I'm running late. did a trip once with winds that bad. It was kind of reassuring they couldn't go out if the winds and waves where over a certain speed and height.

We forgot to do a movie last night. Nothing worth seeing. Decided to go out with my brother tonight. I just happen to have a gift card for a local business casual chain. It was better in the late 80's when it was one or two restaurants. They had margarita's in fish bowls. You'd go eat some appetizers and get your date rip roaring drunk!

    Milestones

They actually own a few chains here in Canada. Swiss Chalet, a Denny's like rotisserie chicken place, Kelsey's, like Applebee's. And a couple of others. They sell the gift cards in most grocery stores and gas stations. I collect the reward points when getting gas. You can use the points for the gift cards.

If you ever make it to Houston and strap that into my feed bag you might just get lucky!
