Ok, here's a dumb question. How to put the car in park while the engine is on?

When I start my Cali the car is in park. I use the paddle shifter to move the car forward or in reverse. How do I then get the car back in park again while the engine is on? Or do I need to turn the engine off and then start it again.

I know how to put the car in neutral while the engine is on, but that won't be safe if there is a even a slight grade to the driveway.

Do you actually own a California?

    Did you read the manual?

Pull both paddles pack for Neutral, then set the parking brake, which will show as Hold in the display.

    Neutral + Hold = Park

Yeah, there is no park. Only 'sitting still with parking brake engaged'. It is just to the left of the steering wheel slightly below the cusp of the dash curve by your leg. Think of it like you would a manual shift car. Pulling the right paddle disengages it when you start. On an incline you might roll back a bit before pressing the accelerator.

Good point. I've always just used the park brake and not locked the gearbox up like i would in a "normal" Auto car. I suppose it's more like a manual (stick shift). You cant leave it in gear whilst the engine is running.

There is a brake button to the left and down of the steering wheel. I believe you push it to engage brake, pull up on the lever to disengage.

    Legit question.

I'm going to test drive a Cali next weekend, so the reply is helpful

I'm picking up a 2010 Cali with 4500 miles this Tuesday! Woo hoo! So excited. I'm nervous about electronic parking brakes. Can these fail causing the car to roll? Am I being paranoid?

This is correct; to add, the EPB (parking brake) is actually a....parking brake. You can leave engine running (in Neutral) and the car will stay put.

With the DCT when you power off in gear, the gearbox itself will lock (i.e. "P" = park) as well. (to go further, if for some reason you need to get the car into Neutral when it's not running, you actually have to mechanically disengage the gearbox with a tool, pain in the ass).

Also, if you leave the car in Neutral and power off, be careful not to accidentally let it go into "Car Wash Mode" - which is where the car WILL allow itself to roll.

The EPB engages (HOLD) when you starting off, or on a hill, and releases automatically when you touch the throttle to pull away.

It's a little disorienting ... you have to get used to just pulling into your garage or parking space and simply shutting off the key while it's still in gear, which automatically sets the parking brake.

Same as with the car running ... pull both paddles, pull the parking brake and the display reads "hold" ... open the door and the "hold" will change to "park."

It's unnerving the first few times but you will get the hang of it. But it's terrifying to think of valet parking the car, which I would never do anyway.

A plus, I suppose, is it would be a difficult car to steal; if you have never driven a modern Ferrari, the first time it's baffling to turn the key, dash lights up but nothing happens, hit the start button, motor starts but you're sitting there revving, how the heck do you put the car in gear? Pull the paddle. But it's not obvious. I felt like a chump my first test drive having to ask the salesman. My F430 was a 6 speed manual : )

By the way, I'm thinking of writing a book- "How to own a Ferrari and not be an *******." I believe there is a need.

There is actually a Youtube video of a guy demo-ing a new California for a woman who reviews cars and he tells her the PS button is for "power steering." LOL

I saw one where the salesman indicated the ps button was the Parking Sensors on/off button
And when I got into mine , I figured it was the same since I came from a Maserati GT and it actually had a parking sensor on/off switch as well.. Any of you guys figured why we get a ps button and the rest of the world gets a launch button?

Wavey, I think they missed it, put in neutral with both paddles, pull the parking switch (larger switch below the headlight knob) ... then open the driver's door, it instantly goes into park when it notices you are in N and hold and a door opens. Neutral and hold actually eventually goes into park after five minutes or so but opening the door makes it happen instantly.

Geeze, don't you guys every actually drive your Cali's and try stuff? :D.
