330 GTC Rubber Hood Stops

Can someone with a GTC help me out? I am in the process of restoring my Father's 67 330 GTC 9949 I ordered new bonnet stop's and got 8 of the block style stops but the car had a round adjustable style up in the rear corner's is this factory? Or over time did somebody just drill a hole for the adjustable one? He has owned the car since 74 and tells me he didn't drill it. And since this is the first repaint just want to make it right. Where can I find the round ones or weld up the hole's? Thanks

Mine has those stops, can't say where to get them though, sorry.

 

First, I don't have a definitive answer for you, but unless you already possess one, I would highly recommend acquiring a body spare parts catalog which could reveal if such item was introduced during manufacturing.
Actually, any factory issued book, brochure or catalog usually contains usefull reference for any major restoration, although some can sometims be contradictory.
If this thread or any other subsequent reseach does not produce clear answer, I would recommend welding up any questionable hole(s), since they are easier to re-drill than fill after the paint work is done. And don't forget to document their exact location before welding and painting.
Also, the (large?) hole depicted in your photo appears more like having been punched or ripped than drilled.

 

I have look in all the old body part books that he has and there is no good picture of that corner all the cars I have seen done only seem to have the square block style. And yes the holes seem like they are punched because one side is twisted for it can screw in. But if you look at my picture you can see a smaller hole where on of the square would have gone but you can tell in person it never had a screw in it and it is to close to the bigger hole to have both. I am trying to find somebody in Michigan that has a GTC and is willing to let me photo graph it just for my piece of mind this car has been apart awhile. Thanks

 

We recently bought 9069and it is very original but in 'barn find' condition, and this only has the square blocks. Sorry for the poor quality photo.

The round "stops" in the corners near the windshield are original to the GTC. They are stops that adjust to allow the hood to be aligned and level with the surrounding bodywork at these corners. I don't know where they can be found but I will be in search of other items for 9593 and will ask if anyone knows.

 

Do you have (factory issued) documentation to support this ?
Just curious, because the "punched" hole, right next to square block more commonly found in all other models of the era seem to suggest an afterthought or quickfix.
Has these rubber stops or their holes been verified on majority of GTCs produced or could they perhaps be "market specific" (Euro, U.S. or ... ?) ? If latter, it would suggest a dealer or importer introduced item.

 

I think i seen them on a 360 modena car on the back hatch.....similar style.....might work......

Traditional bumps can also be adjusted, but not in 6 seconds like the spiral ones which were used on every Fiat since late 60s (so they can be obtained everywhere for peanuts).

All 330s were built by Pininfarina and they definitely had these in the inventory - so I would expect them to have added a pair as soon a frequent need of adjusting was reported back to them. Too many cars seems to have those bumpers in exactly the same location, so I would expect them to be original and would be really surpriced if they were a later addition. If it was a ad-hoc quick fix to a reported problem, the parts book wasn't necessarily updated.

 

Although there is a certain amount of ascertained assumptions made by FCA judges these adjustable bump stops on the corners have been determined to be factory original by the consensus of FCA experts. So if judging is your goal you should have them lest lose a 1/2 pt.

Even with the stop adjusted, I get a little hood flutter at this corner at high speeds...anyone else? maybe I need to play with the latch.

Check the other bumpers first. Look if they have made a mark on the bonnet and/or check the clearance with play-doh or something like that. Then raise the bumper by cutting a piece of rubber sheet placing it under the bumper. This is how it was done on older cars that didn't have adjustable bumpers at all.

 

'67 GTC 9309 also has the round stops. No hood flutter at high speeds, it's been rigorously tested 😊

 

I appreciate all the replies, Hopefully soon I will have the chance to see how it works at high speeds I have not rode in this car since we went to Road America back in 85. I did order some hood stop's from Italiancarpart they look close but had no diameter size hopefully they work or they will be in the pile of other reproduction stuff that doesn't look right. I would like to think after working on it for five year's I am going to have the car judged but I know they will get me on more than just the hood rubber's.

 

Having it judged can be a good opportunity to learn more about your car, not only from the judging point of view, but also by spending a day among other similar cars and their owners, and best of all, a chance to enjoy it during a drive to-and-from your chosen venue.
