Did anyone catch this completely disassembled Bora in NJ on eBay last week? - it was listed on BringaTrailer.. Maserati Other 2 Door Coupe | eBay
I missed this one. I'm pretty sure I know this car well. I believe it belonged to a friend of mine. He's actually registered on here but has only posted a couple of times. Looks like he ran out of time on this one ... It's a long story. He had some very tough things go wrong more than once. If this is that car then it's been stripped of all LHM equipment and was on a goal of becoming a fully fuel injected car. So the Webers and intake manifold are long gone. The mysterious ebay shenanigans are no surprise.
https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/23133/lot/115/ Sold today at Amelia... $187k including premium. (Same exact figure as recent Gooding Scottsdale auction)
Well we were all hoping they'd go much higher but things have tailed off since the peak. I guess $500K is a ways off yet ... I think they intrinsically should be worth a lot more as cars but even making that blue one completely perfect won't get you to numbers like that. The red one is a very original condition low mileage 3 owner car car with all the travails that entails for a car that old. No one has ever actually enjoyed that car. Probably never will either ... How f'ing sad is that?
Watch it Remember: The trend is your friend... And this unstoppable trend will go way past 500K... In the meantime the Bora was out playing with 911s today; still the center of attention for anybody passing by with a camera! Regards.
Yes if one lives to 500 it just might be inevitable. That's called inflation catching up and not appreciation. Something substantial in perception has to change for these cars to appreciate like that. $175KUS is pretty good.
Damn - it's already entered the afterlife. Doomed by low milage to spend eternity being carted around in a trailer, nevermore to fire its cylinders in a roar of acceleration. What a shame, one can only hope. - Art
I know this car and I know the owner and it is as good as it looks in the pictures posted on the Ebay listing. This is a well sorted out car that is in excellent shape and definitely not a trailer queen. The long term owner has properly maintained this car and has done a lot of work on it. Whoever buys this is getting something that they will really enjoy. It will be interesting to see what number it takes to buy this car.
I saw that one too. The blue interior on the other one isn't an original color but it could be a customer ordered custom thing I suppose ... I just liked it. Boras were decorated a bit conservatively ...
Looks a like an oil pressure accumulator for pre-start oil pressure. Popular 20 years ago to prevent engine wear. ? The air filter box has some interesting engineering as well. Curious, but nothing harmful. - Art
They are part of the conversion to aircraft hydraulics on this car. You just go down to your local airport and charge the system with nitrogen according to your pressure gage, instead of wondering about the condition of the system/Citroen accumulators! Nifty stuff. Always liked it. Regards.
Except that the description talks about rebuildable accumulators so I was thinking LHM? I'm not sure how that's a huge plus as the braking system ones aren't expensive and the main just screws on? Why would you need two accusumps? Nice colors. Looks like the transaxle was painted.
There are 3 of these; you just can't see the third in the pictures. If you are interested in details my records show that: "They are 9 3/4 long plus fittings 2 1/4 wide, < tube shaped> the units are stainless steel aviation accumulators. made by Bendix Aviation Corp. part number 548559-1 2 units 3rd unit <main unit I believe> 548025-5 or 551050-3. All 3 units are 25 cubic inches" Regards.
Thanks. Good info for folks. People get so intimidated by this basic hydraulic system. It's amazing. Some of the specialized fittings Maserati utilized ARE a PITA and I wish they had utilized hydraulic rams which were easily rebuilt but you can do that now. I always wanted to convert the two brake system accumulators to spin on types. That seemed so logical to me.
Just removed rediculous US bumpers off the Bora. What an improvement. Image Unavailable, Please Login
