Wow some lovely motors in that list. I Enjoyed reading that article on drive cult, he was very lucky to own all those.
Just by the way that you said about finding the Daytona for someone, I just wondered if you were at that point in time. Perhaps even wishful thinking as they were very good to me
I went there (Modena Engeneering) a few weekends in a row looking at the cars I loved. I was only 14 and had read everything that had ever been published etc. My dad had recently re married and my new step mother was a Ferrari lover. My Dad told me if I could find the right car and set up the deal he would buy it.How could I refuse such an offer. So, when I found BPD182T and asked them to take me, a 14 year old boy out for a test run they were I think it's fair to say a little sceptical ! Then after the test run I had a look over it in there workshop and asked them to do a belt service and prepaid it for collection the next week they must have thought it was just to crazy to be untrue. So me and my dad collected the 308 GTS the following week as promised and they gave me a 1:18 scale model of the car as a thank you. It was a great experience and one I'll never forget. How I would love to meet those sales guys now. Would also love to find the car again if someone can help with that. It broke a can belt and my dad sold it for £5K. I was heart broken for weeks. He hated the car, said it cost a fortune every time he went out in it, I recon I did more miles in it than he did, I was 15 by then !!!! Nick Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks. If anyone has pictures of my car in it's early years when it was painted Dino blue I would love to see them. According to the DVLA it was first registered with plate TLP215M and for a time was also wore ROR 4 and then RFW 824M at the point my Dad first acquired it, presumably the vendor retained his personal plate and the RFW plate was issued to my Dad before he acquired the 404 ML plate.
Great story. Worth a bit more than £5k now whatever state it is in. I don't know where the car is currently. It is SORNed according to the DVLA website. Mike Wheeler (now with Rardley Motors) used to be at Modena Engineering so I have asked him if he was involved in this sale. Jonathan
Thanks Jonathan Thanks for that. Wouldn't it be nice to find a 308 these days for £5K because the belt broken. I might even go to £7K for a boxer in the same condition Nick
Nick, here's what we know... - This is chassis number 27491 - It's still registered as BPD 182T (no record of having ever been changed either) - Had an MOT test on 6 Feb 2013 @ 40226 miles and passed (with no advisories, it seems) - There is no record of an MOT test between 2005 and 2012 (nor in 2014, 2015 or 2016) - It is currently on a SORN - Last change of keeper (the sixth from new) is down as being on 1 Aug 1987 - No record of a colour change - Recorded as a write-off by insurance company on 22 Dec 1995 (status: 'Vehicle damaged') Those are the facts. Piecing together all of those and throwing in a dose of opinion, I'd say that whoever owns this vehicle now has brought it back to full health in the last few years and that MOT test might have been the first time it's been roadworthy in nearly 20 years. In theory it could still be with the owner who acquired it in 1987, but I think that's unlikely. DVLA has access to all MOT data back to 2005, so if there were earlier MOTs from that date, they would be showing up. My guess is that it's been sitting awaiting repair since 1995 and only recently did someone decide it was the right time to do so. I haven't checked the export marker yet, but if the car has been sold abroad it must have been within the last 12 months. -Ed
Thanks Ed, so much excellent information. Almost reads like BPD 182T is just about to burst back on the seen. If ever you up Bedfordshire way come see my 365BB 17535. In fact you don't need to be up this way your welcome any time, you don't get a chance to see a boxer like this very often
Why...and can you post a photo of this amazing Boxer? Sounds like it is in the UK, so relevant to this thread!
Here ya go, think we should start another thread though to be fair. Nick Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ed The 308 GTS You have found all the information about, how do you think it's value is effected by the insurance wright-off Nick
It will have an effect, of course, but really depends on what's been done to the car since, and what original items remain with it. For example, if it's had a nut-and-bolt, chassis-up restoration then it's probably in better nick than most other 308s out there. If it retains all of its original books and tools then even better. Furthermore, it's clearly always going to worth more to you than to me (or anyone else for that matter), so perhaps you'd be willing to pay more for this car than any other particular GTS? -Ed
Thanks for the invitation, Nick - I'm sure I'll pay a visit one day given our discussions about the car and its wonderful history. -Ed
