    Paul you gave the answer too fast! I could have answered this one correctly. No for A/C but for a too tight belt. Too bad I was too late :D

    That could be true for any engine. It also depend on the belt configuration. On the 308 they are all pulling on the same side which doesn't help.
    The tightening specs are not there just for fun. Too loose they slip but too tight they are hard on any bearing.

    Any engine. On some factory supercharged domestics they have a cage bolted to the front of the engine with an additional external bearing support for the crank pulley to prevent flex and breaking the crank. Driving a supercharger plus accessories is too much upward load.

    All I can advise is that the same shop,who shall be nameless, that charged to do those new faulty rockers also charged me to redo the rear shelf panel! I feel so burnt out from the past charges which now are now obvious as defective, and in this case not even done. What did I do to the nameless shop to deserve this! As insult to injury they did not return the airbox, returned the wrong spare tire (from 78 not 77), returned 3 out of 4 suspension forks which were not mine and are bent. Mr Rocco and rock's auto are just nasty - have not even responded to my emails to pick up the parts. Sorry folks, just venting - no honour in people anymore. Rocco even took pictures of the items returned and I asked him to show me the airbox in any of the pictures - no response.

    I know it is difficult to do but try to focus on the fact that the only thing worse than that happening is that happening and you never knew it.

    Problem(s) fixed. You're going to end up with the best steel body 308 GTB on earth. And it couldn't happen to a better car (but I am a little partial to it :))

    No, the centre fell out of the one front octagon nut, had been glued in at some point I just haven't put it back in yet.

    Very interesting. I'll have to watch out for this as I'm in the middle of installing a supercharger on my 308! Any thoughts as to how an external bearing could be installed?

    The pulley with the integral bearing support has a threaded snout that threads into the center of the harmonic balancer using a LH thread. Now Ill admit I tossed that support on my truck when I went from 6lbs to 12lbs of boost by swapping on a lower pulley the size of a manhole cover but how long it would last without the support who knows? Maybe forever and not break but it wouldn't do the front main any favours and I sold the truck. The forward pulley is a dedicated 8 rib blower drive.

    I've got to take some measurements & lots of head scratching to see if it's possible to add an external bearing w/o major impact to the system I got from mk e.

    Wow!

    A view inside the buttress! I have always been curious what about how much roll-over reinforcement was in there.

    Ferrari claimed the US-spec cars got extra reinforcement there, but I have always wondered if it was actual added structure, thicker sheet metal or maybe just thicker paint. Any idea?

    Do you know if the GTS had anything extra there compared to the GTB?

    Remarkable restoration work, as always.

    This particular 308 was originally a Canadian spec car.

    No idea how different - if any - it is from a US 77, but point being, it may be.

    I'm pretty sure he did because we can see the jaw mark of the stretcher/shrinker on the edge. Real nice work.
