Hi everybody, I and a friend of mine are the proud owners of a Turbo 75. We are begining to restore it, but have an issue. According to Porsche, the car should be Gazelle met, which correspond to what we can see on some parts of the body even if the car is black now. The issue is on the interior, because it is mentionned as special request. Do you know if there is a way to have a complete description of what is this special interior request? Currently the car has a full white leder interior.
    Thanks for you help. David

Congratulations on the project. Others will corroborate (or not!) but in my experience Porsche did not keep records of many (any?) special finishes. I owned a '78 turbo for example with special order pearl white paint, but both the COA and build sticker on the car said Grand Prix White (which was likely the base color). Does the current interior look original? White would certainly be a special request color.

Gazelle Metallic is also Comet Diamant, Z7Z7…a beautiful color (used on S-CH 8158). Is your interior original? If not, it may be difficult to determine the interior to sample without period photos or surviving leather interior pieces. What's your chassis #?

Thank you Idart for posting yet another car in Switzerland.
There are still a few of the ones originally sold, looks like.

I will go in a few hours to take a look at the 1975 close to where I live and will report.

This ice green has been "restored" with several questionable points:
    - sport seats leather does not look close to the original material
    - back seats
    - lack of front "snorkel" washers
    - rear engine cover with small secondary opening not consistent with A/C presence

Mostly I prefer "preserved" examples to "restored" examples.
I would rather have the option to keep a worn original part rather then having to accept a new but not original substitute and having to pay for it!

Exactly, Restored to me means the car must have been as in many cases such poor condition there was no option. Just like the good old days with some Ferrari, 300SL, Astons & others were wrongly restored instead of preserved and maintained to be enjoyed in good original condition when the value of those escalated dramatically. Complete restoration with many 930s should be the last option.

    Jamie,

Thanks for posting that pic. How would you describe the un-faded black section, looks like a satin finish to my eyes- not shiny like some of the refinished trim I have seen but not flat like the later trim.

Phil, on my 1977 Turbo it was somewhere between really shiny and a satin finish...but closer to shiny. Definitely NOT flat like the later trim. I believe even the area inside the car fades a bit so was shinier than we think these days. I took some photos when I had the frames out on mine, but now I cannot find them!!!

Satin finish is unquestionable Phil. Glossy would look totally wrong as would flat. If it's not satin, it's not right.

I was replying as Ryan was replying. I should rephrase and say today it looks satin. I only wish I n ew exactly how it looked new.

When mine were redone by KoT, they ended up being a bit too shiny/glossy (IMO). So I'll be interested to hear how yours go Phil since we really need to find a source that will get a better finish.

I hope we eventually find period photos at the factory that might give an indication of the original level of shine.

Mine is going to KoT and I am sending along this original piece as well for a hopeful match. I was told the amount of buffing at the end brings up the finish and gets shiner the more they buff

That makes perfect sense as you wouldn't expect an anodized surface to be shiny, also should be cheaper as the trim doesn't need so much handling.

The rear passenger window trim has a different finish that the door frames, less glossy, its a different material, and not much polished before anodizing. The door frames were polished before black anodizing. And do not assumes that all cars were looking the same back then, quality standards were not that high then. Even the cars in the sales brochures have imperfections.

. Your right and I didn't really conceptially think of that even though he wear is different on my cars in those sports. This trim is giving me grey hairs.
