Under tray

1978 308 GTS.

I am looking for an under tray. It goes between the front valance and the pan. You remove it to access the steering rack and the brake line distributor.

Here is a RHD version. LHD seems to be NLA and I have checked all the usual used sources.

Anyone make one or know where I can find one?

The dimensions should be quite easy to get, and the pan should be quite easy to make. Let me know if you want me to get dimensions on mine ('84 qv).

I'm thinking the RHD might work. I would just need to drill a new ac drain hole or extend the hose to meet the hole. Thoughts?

 

That would be a big help! The screw holes are permanent so I can plot those on some cardboard.

 

Mine is the OEM (non-louvered) version...just let me know, more than happy to provide you with dimensions of something you can have cut.

 

Fairly easy to make or have it made. Get a piece of poster board, measure it up mark the holes and sizes (larger hole for AC drain). then go to a hot rod shop or restoration shop. It should be simple for them to cut the sheet. Holes are easy to drill. It can be steel then painted or stainless steel.

When I designed mine, I did as I described above, but brought it to a hot rod shop to have louvers stamped in it to let out the heat from front compartment. Just make sure they punch the louvers on the right side and going in the correct direction. Mine is similar to the following picture.

That is a beautiful piece. I will likely go with a simple aluminum plate that I have a metal shop cut for me

 

I replaced mine with a simple piece of perforated sheet metal.

I forgot who, but someone made one out of galvanize that was use air vent for home from Home Depot.

Kinda spendy though. Not sure about the first one that goes way up. Anyone got a pic of that installed? Looks like the louvered one must have the skid plate so that is spendy too.

Thinking more about a simple aluminum plate. How thick? 1/8th inch?

 

If someone motivates me, it takes about ten minutes to make one in my shop. Louvers would take extra time. My personal one has reversion air tech built in. Please refer to "chronicles of Barron" for reference. I actually have aluminum set aside to do 10 panels

 

You've seen the one that Superformance makes.

Mark Darragh at Sphere motorsports here in Houston had a bunch machined from a piece of flat sheet metal. I got one from him. He used an OE piece as a pattern. I got one, painted it flat black and installed it. You could call or e-mail him and see if he'll ship you one.

I believe I used a 12"x24" steel vent used for home hot air heating systems. Cost about $10 and just painted it black. Got it a home depot , oh and it was louvered to let out hot air from the front of the car.

 

I have the one I removed to install a louvered version, which I recommend.

Yours is the better design, performing equally well whether in forward or reverse gear.
A true piece of engineering genius, an idea of such inspiration that the 'so called' engineers & designers in Maranello could never equal.

That plate is not worthy of the effort and cost to send it to you. I agree with the other chats about just making one, or getting one from a supplier like TRutlands, Sphere or Superperformance - and I do recommend the louvered plate. It made a big difference for me in the Florida summer. Here is a pic comparing the louvered to the OEM plates.

I used something similar to this . It was 12"x24" and I just painted it black and drilled mounting holes and one for the AC drain.

Hey, if want to get into the business of banging out a couple of these for your F-Chat buddies, count me in. Would prefer to have mine with the louvres all aimed in the right direction, though.

Figure that yours will add about 15 horsepower, compared to mine.
