Hi,I want to remove the injectors on my 82 308gtsi for cleaning/ checking or replacing. Once I have removed the fuel pipe to the injector, do I pull the injector through the enclosed rubber grommet (as shown on a YOUTUBE video), or do I unscrew the injector and the cap which holds the grommet and through which the hexagonal flats of the injector fits with a spanner (wrench) across the flats so that the injector itself unscrews the cap.
The video seemed wrong since the guy having pulled the injectors through the grommets, then unscrewed the caps with an allen key. On re-fitting, he hammered the injectors through the new grommets after having replaced and tightened down the caps first. It just didn't look right. Your advice would be appreciated.

NO. I would NOT/DID NOT do that.

First, hold the injector with a wrench while using another thus loosening the nut on the metal fuel line. TRUST ME on this one. The injector and fuel line often 'fuse' together. Many have twisted those thin metal fuel pipes closed by only using one wrench on the fuel line nut and once twisted, they cannot be repaired.

If the injectors are still seated correctly, a wrench on the injector hex gently but firmly will get the carrier to unscrew. ONLY 'PULL' the injectors in the screw-cap carriers (IIRC '80-'82) if the injector hex has been pushed up and clear of the carrier hex hole. If it has(2 of mine were) then there is no other way but 'pull' them. And do that correctly too. A claw hammer will work, but see below.

Reverse, put the injector in the rubber grommet, grommet in the carrier, gently wrench the injector/carrier back into the manifold. The hex on the injector will 'hold' the hex in the carrier. They will turn as a single unit when properly reassembled.

Easy Peasy and you don't risk breaking anything.

A PRO here when I started wrenching my car, asked, "If I had a hammer, throw it away. NOW! There is nothing on these cars that require a hammer to fix." That advice has been proven very true.

Where is this (IMHO: 'HORRID') video?

    PROs? What say you?

Thanks Mark,I thought that the guy was doing something that looked silly. The video comes under something like "ferrari 308 injector replacement" or something similar. The guy also replaces a clutch on what might be a Mondial, so "Ferrari 308 clutch change"(ish)
It will make you cringe in places. He also shows cam shim replacement so feed any of those in and you should find him, you@ll love how he removes the drop gears.

There's a guy in the classifieds, selling a 3x8 injector puller.

I bought one from him, it looks like a quality piece. Haven't had a chance to use it yet.

On the 3.0 litre 2 valve engine the grommets come out with the injector and hex cap so no need for a puller as per MMR4440's advice. Grommet in the puller video on a 3.2 QV looks to be only about half as thick as mine. Unscrewed the hex cap with the injector hexagon thro' the cap and it was dead easy.
