Is anyone driving their tdf? Response from my friends who have one is similar to mine that it is a real thrilling car to drive. Any more drivers out there?

my friend, will answer thoroughly, when the weather turns better; so far, i have to say, that from what i experienced in one brief ride the tune of engine, suspension and transmission are one of a kind and out of this world. I think, the TdF is the best production car, that has ever left the gates of Maranello. Nevertheless, still love the 599 GTO! Best -e-

Yes, please let us know how the TDF compares to its predecessor - the 599 GTO - especially in terms of driving experience and enjoyment.

Having owned a Maserati GranTurismo SPORT myself, I believe the 599 GTO (which I have not yet driven) should provide a very visceral feeling due to its robotized manual gearbox which shares the same hardware as in the GranTurismo SPORT. Dual Clutch gearbox Technology (DCT) is relatively new to Ferrari (introduced in the California I believe) and my experience of DCT on BMW M cars has been hugely disappointing in the emotions department due to the lack of visceral experience it offers. Plain numb and disconnected from the driver while manually changing gears...

I understand Ferrari has addressed this by tuning the transmission software on their DCTs so as to make it "lively" and engaging while driven in MANUAL-SPORT/RACE mode. Keen to know how the F12 TDF compares to the 599 GTO in this area specifically, and if it needs to be driven hard or revved high to provide acoustic orgasms ;-).

    Cheers,
    Pierre

There are so much black and grey wheels nowadays ... some ferraris don't even have silver

wheels option (GTO, speciale, Speciale A) (Except your GTO Nelson !)

No problem with that I like dark rims.

But some Ol'good silver rims are great sometimes !

    Looks stunning!

Looking through the pictures in this thread its clear the TDF looks much better in natural light and in proper photographs than it does in the official pictures Ferrari released.

I remember commenting when the car was launched that I bet when it hit the street much criticism would die, and so it has proved. Nothing clever in that, it is just that Ferraris studio shots are very sterile and only in the reality of the street can you see just how extravagant the designs are. Even those exhaust boxes, initially my least favourite element, look better in the real world.

It was the same with the LF.

The HIDEOUS orange reflectors era has begun.

    Silver US-SPEC

the unfortunate thing is that the yellow electors are the least of the issue with US spec cars... They are heavier and less powerful (numbers quoted are SAE not PS or BHP), but then again they never really get driven so does ir matter.

Then again the amount of real cars (euro spec) are fewer so ...!!!

So true. At first I was quite hesitant with the rear of the tdf but now I think it is absolutely brilliant the way the rear hips travel into the rear and the gto style "duck tail" and the lm rear lights. The f12 and 599 gto (still both spectacular) look almost "boring" in the their lack of complexity compared to the tdf. The great thing about progress is that the next one is always better.

Peter not everyone in the US keeps their cars as closet queens. We drive all of ours regularly!

Unfortunately, I agree that the reflectors are crap. At least in the US we can get away with no front plate, at least without getting tossed in jail!

OK Peter - I'll bite. What are the sources of the extra weight and lower power? Different engine maps for EPA? Our other cars have dyno'd more or less the same. As for weight, I thought (?) the crash structures were now identical in the platforms. I'd imagine the glass adds a few kilo's

Let us know how you are enjoying yours.

Yes...a front plate is far worse than US DOT side reflectors. You can be tossed into jail in Europe for no front plate ? That is crazy !
