I came across a set of Cibie Passing light, such as those fitted to Euro 308s. I've got a '78 dry sump GTB and wanted to install them. I found a thread that showed how they're mounted up under the bumper via a 'L' shaped bracket. My understanding is they're activated when the headlight stalk is pulled toward the driver. Can anyone shed any insight on to how they're wired up? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

AFAIK the passing lights and stalk wiring setup was first installed in the QV Euro models where there is a cutout in the grill to accommodate the installation. If you still have the Euro bumper mounting to it will be ineffective plus you likely will not clear the grill.

Thanks. For some reason I thought I've seen these mounted to a number of the earlier Euro cars. When I get the car into the shop I'll check it out. If it doesn't look like it will work out I'll have a set of passing lights for sale.

I'm somehow surprised, that noone with an early car and passing lights chimes in. Alberto (Albert-LP) for example recently restored his late carb car and added those passing lights.
The passing lights are also an option, one can find in the early car's parts books.

My late carb car either had the passing lights once, or was prepared for them, since there are two blind connectors behind the grille, which get 12V, when acting on the headlight- stalk.
Sorry, that I cannot give you a detailed advice, but any mean gifted automotive electrician should be able to tackle this. Though I don't know, wether there is something to change on the relays (should the passing lights work together with the main beam? Or should they switch off, when the headlights are open. Again a topic for the folks, who have the passing lights)
There is a great wiring diagram for the 2V i-cars with separate pages for separate circuits -very clear- which is also usable regarding lights for the earlier carb cars.
If you want it, I could send it to you as a pdf. PM me a valid e-mail address.

    Best Regards
    Martin

Tyler. There is a thread and I'll look for it with you. My French-delivered car, the '77 that's getting your spoiler, had the yellow Cibie Airport 35 passing lights installed. Unfortunately I can't check the wiring for you, but you know who to call and I'd bet the shop wouldn't mind sketching it out quickly for you as that part is still together on my car.

I've got the passing Lights mounted, but they are original at my 208 Turbo and the wireing is there since she left the factory. Because I don't have a wireing diagramm I can only admit, that there is a additional Relay at the copilots foot area behind the metal plate.
This relay programms the passing lights.

    Best wishes

On my 85 euro I have the passing lights. When I pull back the headlight stalk they don't come on. My headlights will go from low beam to high beam as long as I'm pulling back the stalk. Is this normal for the high beam lights to come on or should just the passing lights come on? I fell no clicking when pulling back the stalk. Is this normal? It almost feels light I'm going to break it off pulling back the stalk. Is there a relay for the passing lights that works this. Or maybe something wrong with the switch. Or someone did some rewiring.

No, I don't believe so (but just going from memory). Try pulling back on the stalk when the headlight pods are down -- I think then the passing lights should flash (i.e., there is a relay that actuates when you turn the stalk knob "on" to redirect what the stalk pull-back switch does from flashing the passing lights to doing the low beam-to-high beam).

Do ALL cars head light stocks move backward if pulled?

I'd find it unlikely if any 308 and later F didn't (but there's no good tactile feedback when you do it that anything's happening IMO). Read your OMs Operating Instructions for the headlights. Of course, my 1956 Desoto Firedome didn't have it ;)

So the stalk barely moves if at all to make electrical contact?

Yes, not much movement (and no "click" at all).

Just wanted to let everyone know I finally got around to installing my passing lights. Pulled the front bumper and mounted them with fabricated brackets as pictured in the other Cibie Iode Passing Light thread. Wiring harness was right there to plug in to. With lights connected, they flash when the parking lights are on or when the headlights are on.
