True...he should have left room for Bottas, as he was pretty much right next to him. On top of that, who's the one fighting for a championship? Not Bottas!

Forza Ferrari, of course, but good luck to Rosie, getting the job done and staying out of trouble, getting his starts sorted and making sure of his race strategy. Good job done, and none of the peripheral Bs you get with Elton

Many teams have made a huge step forward, after 2nd there is no ''order'' which team is next. If it wasn't for the penalty they'd have finished 6th and 7th or thereabouts.
Mclaren has paid for him to race in Japan so he can keep race fit...reserve driver job is absolutely pointless since they very rarely get any access in the car. Mclaren has invested massive amounts in Stoffel so it only made sense to give him the drive. If they put someone else in how would that have looked? In the end...what's it matter, he got to the track in time, scored Mclaren's first point. Not a terrible day!

Do none of you see that HUGE amount of space on the right side of Hamilton? He left the door wide open. On turn 1. of course someone would be there. He didn't check his mirrors, got lucky he could continue on. He himself admitted it was a racing accident. Using Brundle's famous words...''racing accident? just a drivers way for admitting own fault''.

Bottas received 2 penalty points in addition to his drive through. Ridiculous.

+1 LH would have moved into that gap. We expect aggressive drivers to do just that. LH left the door open and suffered accordingly. Well done Bottas for making the move. Pure racing incident. We ask for racing and wheel to wheel action and there was room for just that and then a penalty.

Lewis Hamilton v Nico Rosberg: The battle we all wanted is brewing - BBC Sport - summary here of the race.

This does not sound good -- "On the face of it, that suggests Ferrari had a pace advantage in the race, but it's not as simple as that.

For one thing, as Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff pointed out, Raikkonen stopped before Rosberg at each of their three stops - and the "undercut" as this is called, gives a powerful advantage in Bahrain, of as much as two or three seconds each time. So that's six to nine seconds Rosberg lost right there, in addition to perhaps a couple or so more courtesy of three slow-ish pit stops.

At the same time, Rosberg had the race in his lap as soon as Hamilton and Raikkonen found themselves delayed at the start and never had to extend himself. As Hamilton put it: "I guarantee you Nico was not pushing after about 10 laps."

Keep in mind that Williams, like no other team, has mastered the skill of choosing the wrong strategy/stuff up pit stops/screw up in the heat of the moment.

Fully agreed, especially considering this was the start where naturally space for other cars is given a notch more generously.

Apparently Rosberg asked his Engineer to shut up because it is "so easy to loose concentration when not racing". So he wanted to focus on staying focused. I remember Schu having a spin in Indianapolis because he fell asleep ;)

Very true. IMO it has cost them a couple of victories in the last 2 seasons by playing it too safe.

Look at it from hamiltons car, he carries on on the racing line and is trying to take the apex and then gets shunted. You cannot just see a gap and try shunt yourself into the racing line like Bottas did. The stewards agreed and that's why he got a penalty. Sky also agree and rated Bottas's performance 3.5/10 the worst of any driver on the field even worse than harayanto who is complete garbage

I will say though that points on his license was a bit harsh - certainly seen worse incidents than that and they get away with less

Rosberg is winning on merit right now but all those people professing it to be a huge battle or proclaiming Rosberg will win the title after the second race are seriously misguided and underestimating Hamilton

The team said it was a second per lap. They have no reason to lie and have always been frank in the past regarding incidents and have admitted when things cost little time.

Johnny Herbert said 8 tenths as a knowledgable ex f1 driver who saw the car damage up close and in person.

In the race the car was sparking as it bottomed out, downforce all compromised - I can easily understand 1 second per lap.

However, bas, sitting in his armchair with a low resolution picture knows better

Mercedes are one of the more honest teams - even admitting there is an issue with the hardware likely causing poor starts.

Ferraris engine blows up - they say no no it wasn't the engine it was the driver smoking a cigar in the car

Mclaren are just as bad and claim to have the best chassis when it's like wrestling a slippery pig - **** last year even on slow tracks maybe a bit better now

"Obviously, I lost a lot of performance in the car," said Hamilton, who finished third, 20 seconds behind Finn Kimi Raikkonen of Ferrari.

"I had so much damage on the car I couldn't keep up with Kimi. I did what I could with it. I was trying to keep the tyres.

"I am not sure what happened at Turn One --whoever was on the inside was in my blind spot and I didn't see them, but it was a racing incident.

"I just don't know what happened. We could keep going and I managed to continue and still had some performance in the car."

Alonso hits back at has been sky interviewer Johnny Herbert - a likeable chap but not someone worthy of shining Fernandos boots

Fernando Alonso admitted he was surprised by the "aggressiveness" shown towards him by ex-Formula One driver turned pundit Johnny Herbert.
Alonso was forced to sit out of Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix after failing to receive medical clearance following his terrifying shunt at the season opener in Australia a fortnight ago.
Herbert, a three-time F1 race winner, suggested on Sky Sports that Alonso should retire from the sport, prompting the Spaniard to hit back at the Brit live on air.
"I'm not going to retire. I'm a world champion," the McLaren driver told Herbert as he walked past. "You ended up as a commentator because you weren't champion."
Alonso said he was surprised by the comments but did not actively seek Herbert out to respond to his claims.
"It surprised me a little," the two-time world champion told Marca. "The aggressiveness towards me surprised me, if I'm being honest.
"I had the bad luck of arriving in the paddock in the morning when they were filming.
"I was not going to look for him, but..."
Herbert suggested Alonso lacked the motivation to continue in F1, but Alonso said he is just as motivated as ever to be competitive.
"I am here at this Grand Prix [in Bahrain], with a broken rib and I still want to climb in the car," he added.
"I am here helping the team wherever I can, and I don't know what more motivation you can ask for."

Love the quip about world champs not needing to become a pundit!

    yep...it was.

anyone know where you can find the fastest laps of each driver during the course of the race? That'll tell us how much time Lewis lost.
