After this weekend I wonder if JB may be out of a job through no fault of his own. He's as good as ever but I wonder if McLaren will now sign Vandoorne for next season. They have to make the transition and cultivate future talent at some point.

I agree with cultivating future talent yet I would rather have JB as a mentor than FA. I am almost certain JB has a buy out clause in his contract. I think McLaren will ride out the season with their current pilots and then decide upon changes in the off-season, Vandoorne is also racing in another Japanese series so there is no telling what that current contract entails regarding seperation clauses.

Two races into the season and the silly season is at 110% already.

Van doorne was running behind button before he retired. Picking up that 1 point was not impressive when judged against the standard of a normal f1 driver but was impressive given him being a rookie with no time to prepare. Fernando would get that car in 5th or wherever haas finished

Esteban Gutierrez didn't exactly look like a rising star during the 2 years he spent at Sauber, did he?

That's what I was thinking too. There was certainly a time that Nico had to push.

Couldn't we encourage more open debate rather than try to force people into caricatures? I thought it was an interesting link.

Strange that Bernie has such a problem with amateur phone footage.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

But such hate needed? Does he really need to die, simply because he denied Toil's bedroom poster boy to post FOM property (which it is, legally)?

Yes I accept your point, but what if there had been a Japan flight delay? Did they have a backup backup? All bases covered?

Not really - It's F1 coverage from an F1 participant that Bernie isn't getting any money for!

I'd have to say that Lewis Hamilton would be rather foolish if he thinks he can continue to ignore Bernie's demand to cease taking footage on his phone, I'm pretty sure Bernie could make life quite difficult for Lewis if he wanted to - For example, it's hard to go racing if you can't get an official pass into the circuits! ;)

It's not the first time folks have wished for Formula 1 to move on past Bernie and expressed a desire for Bernie to retire or succumb to his advancing years. The latter is a pretty distasteful thing to express, but Bernie isn't an FChatter to personally attack and I doubt it was said to goad anyone.

    Let's move on.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I wasn't doing any such thing. I was just amused that someone who is such a die hard lewis fan posted a link to something that was poking fun at Lewis just as much as it was Bernie.

On a related note, this year Ferrari drivers were invited to do laps of the GP circuit in Melbourne....except this year they had to pay for the privilege. It was made very clear to them that they were NOT permitted to take any footage of their lap. Is that ridiculous or what? You pay to drive your Ferrari at (relatively) low speed around the track as an attraction for the crowd which paid to attend, and then you're instructed that you can't film it? Ridiculous.

I had some distraction during the race, but enjoyed what I saw. With the exception of Nico pretty much running away with it, there was a lot of great racing everywhere. Kimi and Grosjean were the stars for me by far. Exciting season so far following Haas and Ferrari. Was also nice to see Vandoorne get some seat time and deliver. He really should get a shot after so throughly dominating in GP2.

He wasn't, hence my comment about him being the weakest link at Haas.

No idea what time he arrived to be honest, but a delay large enough surely they'd know in advance. Stoffel is the only other driver that had some time in the Mclaren so they'd have to charter a jet...considering he was in Japan, Honda country, a charter would be relatively easy to find and surely Honda has a few jets on their books to use as well.

    :)
