rmarchjr's project continues to impress! love that 430 carbon ch front & splitter! are you still going to try to do the scuderia gt3 hood & aero as well? post more pics!!!!!!!!! That Ai rollcage looked amazing the first time I saw it years ago, and still looks amazing today! I was tempted to go down that path, but a few factors led me away to my current 2-pt rollbar compromise: • Ai had no jig, so my car would have to be shipped over • Setup is rather dangerous for street driving when I'm not wearing a helmet or conversely speaking, my passenger and I would have to wear a helmet whenever driving on the streets...gf would have none of that for sure lol • It pushed the seats upfront so for my height, it would have been an improper and uncomfortable seating position. • It is, by my personal preference, moderately-highly intrusive because it required welding additional reinforced brackets and mounts onto the cabin frame, as well as cutting/drilling into both the cabin frame and the upholstery that covers it which makes it rather hard-impossible to return to oem spec. This bit was important to me not because of resale, but because when I made the explicit decision that I would keep the car for life, I also planned to one day have it "Classiche" certified by Ferrari, and these "intrusive" alterations would've prevented me from getting that certification And yes, classiche certification does add resale value!
Here is V2.0 Full carbon front bumper @ CH wing. So happy I added the aero. Initially I set thewing at 7deg angle of attack. On the first hot lap @ the kink in the front strait she started to rotate @ about 130mph. That was a big pucker moment. Reeled her in and changed the angle to 14deg. What a difference. She was very stable, no more tail rotation at speed. I can't stress the overall improvement in the car was dramatic, much easier to hold a line in fast sweepers, springs are still too soft but stock does work, not well compared to a CH car(too much body roll) but it works. Never bottomed out and nothing got scraped. This street car is amazing on track!!! My friend timed me at 2:02. Again no Data, but aside from a few big dedicated track cars, not much could keep up or pass her. Runs very close to 997 Cup cars. Played with 2 settings, CT & CST, shocks full hard. Once again hats off to Ferrari- CT was unbelievable. I did not find any brake intervention, but that F1 traction control is so good I now understand why the FIA banned its use in F1. Hear me out on this: If your intent is to become a better driver this completely defeats the purpose, if you just want to have fun in your Scuderia- its your best friend. It will let you do absolutely stupid things with no repercussions. You can literally flat foot the gas pedal coming out of a corner with the wheel still turned and the car keeps itself headed where you aim it. I know I have read that this setting disables Traction control, and I know what I just did with CST Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
sorry wrong button. In CT setting the rear is absolutely glued to the track. Confidence inspiring, very very nice to the driver. CTS off- this is the setting to use if you want to powerslide. I didn't find where it actually intervenes to save you, but thats not what I like these cars for, I want to see lap times drop. Man I need to add Data! Without data I cant really tell if I was any faster w everything off. I can say that it is MUCH more challenging to drive fast. For this car to do what it did, with power windows & air conditioning, just left me speechless. I can only say if you like to drive very fast at a racetrack and want to drive the same car on the street - this is the one.
CT off is the fastest mode for the Scuderia, and it still lets you slide around enough if you want it to but reels you back in when things have gone too far.
Interesting. I've had to make big corrections in both RACE and CT-OFF. Surprised that you found you could flat foot corner exit. Although thinking about it, I think most of my corrections have been on corner entry - carrying too much speed.
You can definitely break the back end loose on corner exit in Race. When the car was released, they said you could pin the throttle to the floor at the apex and the computer would give you just the right amount of power to exit the corner at the maximum speed. I haven't found this to the be the case. Too much right foot and you'll be facing the wrong direction pretty quickly.
Absolutely correct. I found this to be very true even on race mode. Lol. Sent from my SM-N910G using Tapatalk
Very interesting, in race with slicks, the back end would not really break loose. It intervened way too early to the point of being no fun at all and very annoying. It also used the rear brake on the inside of the corner excessively, as well as cutting power. Let me say that I was on a hot track with lots of other cars so I was NOT playing around trying to do "top speed" power drifts through corners. I was trying to figure out how to get fast, constant, and safe laps. It is definitely a handful with CST off, but still very controllable and responsive to correction, but it does spin fast, you really have to be on the job to keep it on track. In my current setup optimal is somewhere between CT & CST. BTW the Speedo speed at VIR on the back strait was over 165mph, as witnessed by a passenger, I couldnt bring myself to look at anything other then the brake markers = 3, think I could have gotten to 2 but the inconstant front feel when braking hard kept me from pushing more. From what you guys are saying the Scud acts very differently with slicks vs street tires. Even on the street with old MPSC I didn't enjoy the drive as much in race. And I am generally conservative on the street.(maybe a low speed power slide once in while) IMHO - the biggest factor slowing the car on track is the undersized front tires and general lack of mechanical grip - more at the front of car. Soooo....How do I get a 9"-10" wide front wheel under there? I do have the 380 mm Brembo GT caliper & rotor(in the garage) that can go on but whats the point if they still need 19" wheels for clearance. The really nice thing on the brake side is that the big 398 mm rotors are near impossible to overheat. 45 minute sessions @ VIR and no CH brake ducts got them hot but not overheated. They were many brake zones that I could not use the massive stoppers because I would just loose traction in front, kick on ABS, overheat the slicks and slide around too much. End of the day to prevent the slicks over heating the cold air pressure was 17.5 psi and that would get me to 29-30 Hot. A rise that big I believe is indicating the tires are just too small. 19" tire choices are still very limited, maybe a smaller front brake and 18"s really will be faster/lighter. The largest Pirelli front 19 - 458CH - is only 10" section width, that's slightly smaller then what is currently on my CH car and it weights hundreds of pounds less then the Scud, so even with custom 19's the car may still be shy on front tire. Opinions?????? Options????? Has anyone gotten 18's on a Scud? & what with what front brakes? BBS said no go on customs wheels unless I would order 10 sets. What happened to those guys? HRE was open @ 9-10K per set. CCW seems to only have 18" based wheels even the 19" are based on 18" hubs.
After giving it much thought, and knowing how I intend to use this special car its time to get her ready for the track. Here are the modifications that I've started in preparation for trackdays. 1. General weight reduction 2. Agency Power titanium xpipe 3. Convert to 18" wheels 4. Penske suspension with track rate springs 5. Corner balance and lower ride height 5. Challenge roll bar 6. Race bucket seats & full harnesses I haven't weight the car yet so I'm not sure where I'm starting at but the goal is 2800# or less wet with 1/2 tank of fuel. Pulling the stock exhaust was pretty easy I haven't dropped it on a scale yet but with brackets I'd guess its about 50# vs 7# for the Xpipe and much less restrictive. I wish I had put the car on a dyno before but time didn't allow it. I'll definitely get it done in the next few weeks. In order to use 18" wheels which are lighter and wider and have a much better selection of slick sizes the front brake size must change. I picked up a set of 360 CH calipers and rotors and am hoping they will provide enough brake on track. They are much smaller (355mm) then stock (400mm). Worst case I'll change back but for now I have to give it a try. Should be able to start up tomorrow, I'll post a video with the new sound, hope the neighbors approve. I don't like to get the back end too loose in race because eventually the electronics take over and snap the car back - rather use cts off
I agree, more fun CST off and controlling the car yourself. Looking forward to this weekend, running the car at New Jersey Motorsport with the Penske's, 430 slicks, race bucket seats & harnesses, and data. Can't wait to see the lap times vs the 360 CH car. She's still a bit porky but I think the suspension will keep the weight in check...maybe. I'll post up some track video next week. Rear spring rate: 1600#
Forgot to post the weights. Cross weight is only off .42% I know I should have had the whole car together before I did this but she is going back for realignment again after the springs have had a chance to settle in and the larger wheels arrive in a few weeks. What are your initial impressions on the exhaust? I like the weight reduction...I may have missed it, but are you running factory headers and cats, or did the cats go away with the stock setup? Can you post up some video of the sound?
Yes, I will post video in a day or two. VERY VERY loud, not at all streetable. I would not put this on a car I intended to drive on the street. Love the sound, tinny, raspy, angry. I'm still not happy with its position, not an easy exhaust to fit properly. Stock Scud headers (no precats on those, cat delete pipes). I will also post some video from the track. Maybe even get one of the boys to give me their video of me passing them...
Looks like the s-line replica is not fitting very well back, particularly that passenger side outlet from the cat delete pipes! Hopefully, you'll be able to get that resolved, there's a lot of expansion / motion that goes on w the Scuderia system when it gets hot so proper fitment is critical to avoid some serious failure.
In case anyone else needs to remove the Scud factory stereo. 1. Use a radio removal tool, or thin piece of metal to slide in between the radio fascia and the left knob assembly, this will release the left side radio knob assembly and expose the left side spring release slot. 2. Now the radio can be removed like any other, easiest to get a hand behind the radio and push gently while using the radio release tool one the spring clips. Took me forever to figure it out and I couldn't find help on the web. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
If you slide the Ferrari logo to the right the left knob assembly comes off. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Track is NJ Motorsport- Lighting- small track not great fit for this car. This car is a monster on track, the engine power is great and the transmission is perfect, got about 40 compliments on the very loud exhaust note- it sounds beautiful. Stock 430 CH slicks are not enough to counter the high weight. Still too much understeer. Definitely needs more tuning- roll bars?? Larger wheels & tires. 1:13 best so far, that's 4 seconds slower then my best time in the 360 CH. Lots of traffic, dirty track from the races. CST off is about 2 seconds faster then Race mode.
What is your current setup? I am on a 3-way MOTON Motorsport chassis with 1028 lbs/in in front and 1370 lbs/in at the rear. I run my car with standard wheels but I have 245/35-19 in front and 285/35-19 at the rear. My ride height is 97 mm front and 113 mm rear. It is corner weight to a diff of 0.7 kg cross weight. I just reduced front camber from -3.4 to -3.0 and kept -2.8 at the rear. Biggest issue is still the annoying understeer and I am looking into getting 9" inch at the front but haven't found a solution for it yet. Do you have info about what ET to aim for? I would like to keep scrub radius, so optimal would be 9" with ET of about 30 I guess, but will they interfere with inner/outer fenders?
Wow! The Scud is coming along nicely. I am glad to see the cage is going in. Did I miss a video clip of that gorgeous Ti exhaust? Haha!
johan, I'm using Penske race coilovers, 1200#F 1600#R- they feel fantastic on track. the body remains very flat during high lateral load. But the understeer is still very present at high speed more then low. I will try softening the front a bit, also may have too much rear wing angle, worse understeer at higher speeds +125mph. Camber is only -2.0 F & -3.0 R and the slicks are wearing very evenly across the tire. 21 heat cycles still getting 8-10# rise in pressure (cold to Hot), their past their prime for overall grip but still ok, Current wheels and tires: standard scud wheels w 430 CH sizes 8" x19- 235/645-19 - pzero slick - DH compound 10" x 19"-295/645-19 - pzero slick -DH waiting on 9x19 & 11x19 Running CST off. RE: scrub radius - the 360 gt cars were all using wider front wheelbases- 67.5" front track w 10" wheels and 265 tires- if wider wheels push the c/l out that should help, don't u think? I am really hoping the 9" F do not interfere w the fenders/liners and I wouldn't mind limiting turning radius like the CH cars if it stops any rubbing. We will see soon. sorry had to travel and havent had time to post sounds & video yet - its coming - really cant even count how many track guys came over to compliment the sound @ wide open high rpm, its really mean and loud.
