Friend just completed belts on a T with engine in , no mods to car , was able to replace bearings and belts! I would say 6-8 hr job for a DIY er with right tools and lift. I was there , even took pics to prove it can be done. Not interested in debate just saying it can be done and done right with engine in! Cheers CT
not really. IF that was ported larger and the front sub-frame reinforced and made larger you might have a chance, but as is, it's too much issue, easier to just jerk the engine not that big a deal, just costly when pros do it...then again, you get what you pay for.
It comes in handy, but not a necessary access point in performing the service. The method required removal of fuel tank , much less complicated and easier than removing motor. From there you can access belts . Tool mods , shaved socket for main pully and a gear puller from Harbor Freight that was shaved to fit behind bearings. No mods were made to the car! No frame cutting ! No welding ! Nothing! No intention of going off topic, happy to discuss and post pics in another thread or privately.
Dear Mr Stackhouse Let us enjoy the merits of others! Certainly when they discovered, fine-tuned new methods in maintaining our precious Mondis. So, go ahaid, make a new thread and post as many pics as possible.
I can confirm this, my mechanic did just this to replace water pump. As steakhouse said, it does involve removal of fuel tank.
A T I looked at last year had just had a major done by a Local uk Ferrari shop... When I spoke to the shop he said they took the fuel tank out rather than dropped the engine... Explains why their major was significantly cheaper than most.
Bollocks! The reason I wanted a 3.2 not a T was because i could not face dropping the engine. Anyway, suppose Im pleased for others I wonder if you could "quick release" some of the fitments to make it even easier.
There are advantages (obviously) to dropping the whole engine/sub-frame in either the 3.0/3.2/T. You can access other things than just the belts and save yourself some headache when updating fuel lines, coolant hoses or other items in the engine bay. Just because you can change the timing belt and bearings/tensioners on T without officially dropping the engine does not always equate "complete full service" or "done right"
Yes, that sounds like a simple belt change. A "full service" usually means checking the cams as well (shims, timing, etc.).
Indeed... One man's major is another's belt. I guess there's such an emphasis on belt changes with these cars that offering a short cut is a big sales differential for the tech... And for an owner prepping for up a sale... ,'belts done last month'. What every buyer wants to hear!
The dreaded belts... every owner's nightmare. A $10K service every 3 years works out to $10 a day whether the car is driven or not. So buy a 430 with chains ... but wait, Ferrari managed to screw that one up too by making headers that last only 3 years ... just like the 355 ... you would think they would be able to engineer out of the problem 2 models down the road but no, the 430 has header problems like the 355. The only bright spot is some models, if bought at the right time, have gone up in value about $10 per day.
They dropped the price on the 89T coupe at the Toyota dealer in Mass.they have it on craigslist for 49950. I also see it is on ebay bid up to a bit over 40k. I wouldn't think it would be worth all the time that dealers have put into trying to sell this. I'm really curious as to what they have in it.
For a full service at the Dealer on a t, I could see that. Especially if it "needs a recharge", as they frequently do.
Dealers are the most expensive, but even so, last year Ferrari of Tampa Bay posted prices for a "major service" including bearings if necessary at $6250, plus "shop supplies" and tax. So figure a little under $7000 out the door. Not quite $10k. The interesting point to note is that the price is only $400 more than a Mondi 3.2. Over 3 years. $135 a year extra. Hardly enough to get excited about: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/service/443601-major-service-specials.html Regards, Jerry
Nice, water pump and valves shimmed as well? I need to recheck my records to see when they were tended to last.
Not sure, although I would think so. I would not think water pump itself included., along with labor to r&r. Contact them, info is at the bottom of the main page. If you can't find it let me know, and I will forward to you. Regards, Jerry
Hi All These 2 Auctions should give a true indication of the price of a Mondial in the UK, the prices on these cars is being driven by the demand of the punter and what they see as a realistic price not, the inflated prices I think, being asked by dealers in the UK. $33k (buy it now) for the Mondial 8 Coupe - with no AC, and no history (he can't find the book). Looks like a nice car - except that the steering wheel is on the wrong side. The 3.2 Cab is up to $39.9K with 3 days left. That blue color (colour?) is just stunning! Sid
