The new GT will be under 3000 lbs with over 600hp, complete CF construction, CF wheels even, and most likely not share parts with anything.

It probably costs more to produce than a LF and there's a good chance on a track it could be faster than one too.

Speciale might sound great, but it's not even in the timezone with regards to performance.

Under 3000 lbs will be quite a challenge but I hope you are right.

Free maintenance on a GT (at least the last one) is not that much of a give. Annual oil change - maybe $250 total and then a change of transaxle fluid every 3 years at a cost of an additional $200. Realistic maintenance costs on a GT for 5 years of ownership and DRIVEN, would be < $2000 including a prescribed coolant flush at the 3-year mark. We've performed these services on more that 100 unique Ford GT's so I know of what I speak.

Couldn't be that hard. 675LT is under 3000 lbs.

I think your average spec 675LT is closer to 3100. I've found 3 weighed on scales between 3,090 and 3,110, but I would probably order the glutton for punishment package to get under 3k.

Everyone seems to forget that Ferrari had the last laugh with their famous 1-2-3 photo finish in the 1967 Daytona 24 hours. Ford can play in the same sandbox as Ferrari but no one knows how to pull off marketing stunts like Ferrari, uncertainties about Sergio aside.

    "Ecoboost engine?" I'll pass.

Ok, made a small mistake. Found the post. It was 3002 lbs with fluids and options. He's very reliable when it comes to this stuff. With aircon, sat, and lift kit, that's pretty much a fully loaded car IMO. I can't really think of any comfort options lacking aside from having the P1 seats instead of the normal, comfort seats. Not a huge deal breaker though for a car like this. Maybe US cars are a bit heavier.

"Also you all know I'm a total freak when it comes to weight and Mclaren weighted my car, with fluids, at 1362 kg!!! That is just amazing. Car is really loaded too with Aircon, roll bar, Satnav, lifter, etc. Brilliant job!"

I imagine that Ford should be easily able to get weight on the GT well below 3000 lbs given its construction and initial design goals.

Any actual numbers yet? Besides the race car version of the GT, have any lap times been recorded by the new GT? How does it stack up with the usual suspects?

Why this EcoBoost criticism? What exactely is wrong with this engine? IMO it seems to be a masterpiece: "The GT's EcoBoost twin-turbocharged, direct-injected 3.5-liter V-6 engine shares far more with the EcoBoost six in Ford's Daytona Prototype LMP2 race car than it does with any roadgoing Ford engine. With more than 600 horsepower, the GT's V-6 earns the awesome "Powered by Ford" branding."

I know how popular it is, to rave about the "latest thing" ... but the performance of the new Ford GT isn't even in the same universe as LaFerrari. Nor should it be ... the costs, and prices, aren't in the same league, either.

Even without KERS assist, the power-to-weight ratio of LaFerrari (790 HP/3500 lbs) is significantly greater than what's expected for the Ford GT (620 HP/3000 lbs). Add-in KERS, and there's simply no comparison. (And this even assumes that the weight of the production GT really comes-in as advertised, without adding a few pounds in street-legal trim).

The comparison between the new Ford GT and the 488 (660 HP/3400 lbs) is much more appropriate ... with a slight edge to the Ford :)

Again ... kudos to Ford for bringing the new GT to market. Promises to be a great car. But let's not pretend that it's the most 'awesomest thing evarrr', just because it's new.

    Doesn't matter. There's a lot more to a car than power/weight.

    1 Dodge Viper ACR (Mk V) Randy Pobst 1:28.65 654 / 1548
    2 Porsche 918 Spyder Randy Pobst 1:29.89 887 / 1640
    3 McLaren P1 Randy Pobst 1:30.71 916 / 1490

The Dodge Viper ACR is a manual too BTW. Keep in mind too that the Viper is massively slower in a straight line that both those cars. It can't even reach 300 kph.

    1 Dodge Viper ACR (Mk V) Chris Winkler 1:21.24 654 / 1548
    2 Porsche 918 Spyder Randy Pobst 1:23.54 887 / 1640
    3 McLaren 675LT 1:24.29 675 / 1230

Notice how cars with drastically less power don't really have a problem keeping up? Never said a GT will be quicker than a LF in a drag race, but on a track quite possibly, and no one said the new FGT will be a great road car...

It's definitely possible that U.S cars weigh more for some reason. I know the owner of this car pretty well and he manages to weigh most of his cars. It had super lightweight wheels, lifter, parking cams, telemetry cam, air con. Not sure what else would add the difference.

    http://i.imgur.com/kumNV4Q.jpg

I weighed my 650S spider on a very accurate scale full to the brim and it was just over 3,350 which is slightly over what I was expecting, but still very light for a spider..

Ford pulling that off this yr would be really impressive. Totally different horses but Haas is doing it in F1 although it's only been 2 races. Heck, I'm amazed Haas even has any points

I don't know what Ford is spending on this latest sportscar push but they estimate it took Porsche $1B to get back there in the prototypes. VW wouldn't shell out that $$ today. I'm not a fan of the 'video application' but it's a lot cheaper than winning Le Mans-especially when Ford knows most Ford owners don't even know where Le Mans is!

IDK, it sure seems like you are the one with a burr under the saddle. Labeling what Ford has (hopefully) accomplished with this new GT as a "stunt" is a very, very naive and biased perspective. I don't think there's any kind of "stunt" in what Ford is doing. Is Ford doing a good job to promote the hell out of the car and keep it in the media, and produce "fun" TV commercials (Magnetic)? Heck yeah, they are. Cool. A "stunt", no.

My perspective is that you are afraid of this car/Ford. Maybe you are angry or jealous of what Ford is able to accomplish. Perhaps it angers you that you missed an opportunity to own and drive a wonderful car and a very appreciating asset like the last GT.

But you really fly your true colors in the post quoted above. You throw out a narrow, condescending label, try to reinforce it as fact (but only in your small mind), then the classic, "Not my fault." Too funny. Or, could it be that you are just so much smarter and more perceptive than everyone else. Ford can fool the masses, but they can't fool the Mayor! Yeah, maybe that's it.

    Of course there's more than power-to-weight ... !!!

But, given that LaFerrari slaughters the Ford GT in the power-to-weight category, what other performance metrics do you think will give the Ford GT a significant advantage, to overcome the serious power-to-weight deficit on a track?

Weight balance? Doubtful, both are mid-engine cars ...
Center of gravity, for a vertical moment-of-inertia advantage? Doubtful ... the LaFerrari battery pack keeps the center-of-gravity pretty damn low ...
Braking? The Ford GT might have a slight advantage, from lower weight ... but the LaFerrari brakes, and braking, are absolutely state-of-the-art ...
Drag coefficient? What are Ford GT's numbers ...
    Shift-lag? Not a chance ...

I just don't see how the Ford GT overcomes the serious power-to-weight disadvantage, to be even close to competitive with LaFerrari on a track.

EDIT : And if you haven't yet experienced the power delivery (ICE plus KERS combined) of LaFerrari on corner-exit, you're in for huge surprise :)

lol...I remember the f-chat threads about the last ford gt.

$150k for a ford? it will always be a ford. it will never have the soul of the Ferrari 360...etc,

lol...that last gen ford gt has and will continue to dance on the 360 by every measure. the new gt will do similarly.

so yes, $400k for a ford. open your mind just tiny bit.

Did you not just see the lap times I posted? The ACR and 675LT can be within spitting distance of a vastly more powerful, AWD 918, and they are still both just normal production road cars.

There is a point at which power will not compensate for weight, suspension, tires, and aero.

The AWD Veyron SS has a vastly better power to weight ratio than most cars, and yet it's significantly slower on the track than many high-end exotics.

You don't have miles of runway on most tracks to make use of 1000hp and you don't hit speeds where that 1000hp car really gains the most on a lower powered car. If you watch a video of say, a 918 at Laguna Seca, you'll never see it enter 150-200 mph range, and from 0 - 110mph, 1000hp vs 650hp isn't massively different.

LOL! Since when is the truth "a narrow condensing label"

It's a car forum, not Oprah.

OMG.... Ford must feel so hurt!

You appear to be new here so I'll set the record straight.

I like the Ford GT as a car. I admire Ford for making it. I'm glad they are taking it racing and I hope they beat the pants off of Audi or whoever. I've seen it in person a couple of times and aside from it being the size of the Queen Mary, it's really very attractive.

NOW-- why Ford is doing this and what they have done since is a complete embarrassment. Its a PR stunt on top of PR stunt. Asking to post Youtube videos and pictures of yourself is "selfie" mode. Next we will have Publishers Clearinghouse knocking on doors with a giant cardboard Title to a Ford GT.

This is not a serious move by Ford to be in the exotic market. It's PR stunt to beef up its rather tame "eco boost" line of hybrids.

If you can't see that, then I suggest removing the rose colored sunglasses.
