There is absolutely zero chance your Speciale is anywhere near 2890 lbs. Fill up the gas tank and go to a certified scale. I say this not as a slur on the Speciale because I love that car, but it's just not remotely close to that number. It will be ~3300-3400.

The new GT will run away from a Speciale as if it has a boat anchor attached, and that would be the case if the GT had 600 hp, which is not nearly what it actually has.

Apologies, I corrected my post as you will see.

Run away as if a boat anchor is attached. Uh huh.

We shall see. Tire technology comes into play to you know. And the Ford GT whatever is still going to have to have traction. .3 seconds in 1/4 mile difference. 3.1 vs 2.8 Mark my words.

And BTW I have seen the new Ford GT in person at Oshkosh this last summer. It isn't as pretty as the old one. Sorry. My Speciale is FAR prettier. The new Ford GT looks a lot like a Lamborghini Aventador with an old Ford GT front end. I won't even begin to talk about the interior.

That said I wish Ford well and appreciate what they are doing. The interview process though is pretty damn cheesy. HI! I AM MARK AND I REALLY REALLY WANT YOUR CAR! VOTE FOR ME!

    Ugh.

I'm sure 0-60 won't be all that different. I'm talking around a circuit or anything where you get to run for a bit. From 60-150 or above there will be a major, major difference in speed between the 2. Like many bus lengths.

You know, for all the people who rip on the application process, let me say this:

All too often we say that the car manufacturers are out of touch with their buyers and they leave way too much in the hands of the dealers. Well, this is a situation where the car company is interacting directly with consumers to figure out who they feel should be getting one of their halo cars. Is it a perfect process? Not likely. Is it innovative and much more transparent than the typical processes we see? Absolutely. Why does anyone care if they get publicity for it? Why should anyone give a hoot if it ends up in free advertising. It's a freaking corporation in a capitalist system; of course they want to increase their profile and get as much run as possible. Hell, that's why they go racing, that's why they build cars like this, that's why they do half of the stuff they do: to increase their brand image so that they can sell more cars.

As I said before, I applaud Ford for doing it this way. Let's see how it all shakes out and who ends up with cars. I have a feeling that the deserving folks will end up with cars, which is not what we see with other manufacturers.

I'm sure we'll see the dyno, and weigh-scale, results ... once final production cars are available ... as well as measured zero-to-sixty times, quarter-mile times, lap times around famous tracks, etc.

Of course, by the time the new Ford GT is "in the wild", the new 488 Speciale will probably be less than a year away ;)

Honest question, for those who seem to be "in the know" about the new Ford GT ...

PLEASE tell us that Ford has significantly improved the gearing, over the last generation? PLEASE tell us that Ford didn't let the marketing department dictate, again, that 0-to-sixty needs to pass without a 1st/2nd gear change?

In short : At redline, in first gear, how fast will the new Ford GT be moving (stock wheels and tires)?

Well you see thats the thing. I don't run around too many circuits at 100 mph unless its in my Formula Mazda (and then its barely 100 mph but I digress...)

For $450k, I'll take a 05/06 GT in Gulf livery or maybe a SLS Black Series. That way, I don't have to wince every time some ****-kicker at the gas station asks "That got a V8 innit?" and I proudly declare, "Nope, V6 ... but it's got EcoBoost!" "Cool bro, my Sister's Ford Edge has a V6 EcoBoost."

The last V6 Turbo "halo car" I can think of was the Jaguar XJ220. World beating performance. Total flop of a car. Values rising now mainly due to rarity and age; certainly collectible.

I thought the gearing on the last car was great. With a pulley my car went 133 mph through the quarter (which is pretty fast today, let alone 10 years ago), which was just enough to not shift to 4th before the traps, and the torque was so strong that even 3rd gear was enough to pull it out of all but the tightest turns at most road courses. Then with the turbo system on, it would only lightly haze the tires on occasion in third at over 100 mph.

The new car is not so relaxed with the 7-speed Getrag DCT.

I understand that many owners 'overcame' the ultra-tall gearing of the last generation, with ... more power !! :) nuthn' wrong with that!

But very tall gearing is just not my cup of tea, for a street car. I'm sure the new Getrag DCT is a wonderful, close-ratio trans ... but how about the final gear ratio, and tire diameters? Any info?

I'm new here? Just been here a couple of years longer than you, that's all. The difference is that you seem to be so compelled to share all of your wisdom with everyone. I guess that's what Mayors do?

    1. A complete embarrassment? Yeah, right.... you gonna find a lot of people who agree with you on that one. True colors are flown again.

    2. Ask you to post videos in selfie mode? A true politician, you are. Make stuff up and then criticize it as it it is fact.

    3. "This is not a serious move by Ford to be in the exotic market." - Hey, we agree!! Are you disappointed? Ford stated all along that the emphasis on the new GT was first a race car and then second a car for a very limited number of consumers. I don't think Ford wants to be in the exotic market. Look at the margins they are making off of their high-trim trucks and SUVs and multiply by a LOT of units....... hard not to like THAT business case. The GT is a halo car to show what they can do - their design and engineering prowess, if you will. The fact that ANY company - not normally in this segment where the competition is so ultra capable, can accomplish this is really spectacular. Think of how great it would be if other companies did this as successfully as Ford.

    4. "If you can't see that, then I suggest removing the rose colored sunglasses." Ummmm, I'm not the one making stuff up so I can present arguments in contrast.

But, I'll bow out and let you get back to your regularly scheduled programming. Enjoy your small little world and I hope someday reality will be a little less frightening for you.

    Tires are:

    245/35R20
    325/30R20

Haven't heard on gear ratio, but it's a 7 speed, so I'm sure it's tight.
