What a great thread!!! Another photo that i have but don´t know the year or place. Anyone? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks Mark, You are absolutely correct. Now I start to think about it I sold it in 1989 just before prices collapsed, was offered it back at 35% but failed to take the opportunity. I did go to the early FOS's in various exotica, but had my dates muddled in the excitement of seeing 'my' car. Thank you for being my brain Mark.
Hi All, I'm a Newbie to this forum but glad I've found it and love this thread! Herewith photos of my Late Dad's Daytona and Dino GTS in the 1970's, which I got to drive occasionally. The Daytona was later converted by Autocraft into a Spyder, I believe. I've recently acquired a 1978 308GT4 c/n 14340. On checking with Maranello Archive, I find it was the 1978 Motor Show car (the first held at the NEC). Long shot, but does anyone by any chance have a photo of the 1978 Maranello stand? After the Show, it was sold 3rd Nov 1978 to a D. Goldie and reg'd LGH 516T. Then had various private plates and currently wears OUD 2T. Any known history also welcome! For the last 9 years I've owned Dino c/n 04590, SPC 46L. First owned by actor The Late Richard Thorp. I've just put it back to the correct, original Nuovo Giallo Fly and photo also attached for interest. Any other info on this car also welcome! Kind regards, Chris. As you rightly say, the Daytona was converted to a Spider. It went to the US in 1985 and is still there, I believe. Mike Sheehan has sold it a couple of times. You can see pictures and history here: 1971 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Serial Number 14037 - main page. I think you will find your father gets a mention. The white Dino has been red for some time and has lived in Surrey for some years. I last saw it about 5 years ago. I have a picture of your GT4 from 2011 but not from 1978, unfortunately. Jonathan
Another photo of s/n 06342, taken at Foskers' first premises; I would imagine in the early 1980s. -Ed PHOTO BELOW COPYRIGHT Fosker Engineering LLP Image Unavailable, Please Login
Chris My GT4 has an earlier no than yours, 14302, but was not sold and registered till Aug 79. So no doubt sales were not good at that point. Francis
Hi Francis, Maranello Archives told me 14340 was delivered just in time for the Motor Show, so my guess is they had spec'd it up and ordered it for the Show and had it hurried through after the factory summer holiday shut-down. That winter of 1978/9 was the famous "Winter of Discontent" so yes, you will be correct in thinking that sales of such vehicles would have been rather slow during those times! And yet the 1980's were just around the corner when conspicuous consumption became all the rage!

FOC Track Day Silverstone 1983. Anyone got any idea which car this is ? It has be stumped at the moment. Mark Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Mark Just a long shot, could it be VNK 1J. I know the modern photos of this car have it with a roof aerial and door mirrors, but it had a very similar reg to this one at one point? Maybe not, just seen the interior in your photo is not tan! It also seems to have leather steering wheel which is unusual now on a plexi.
I too arrived at this car. The interior was originally black though. However, when in Japan, it no longer has the horse in the grill, mind you it does look like it has had some kind of front ender, or the aerial on the rear wing. But the nail in the coffin is the Bonhams catalogue description which says: "Between 1975 and 1987, the car formed part of the Yoshida collection in Japan." And I took the photo in 1983. I saw that entry in the FOC register too. A typo ? Mark Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Dear John I think this was the first time I saw your car. Seen here at Silverstone during the FOC Track Day in 1983. Mark Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Mark, Bonhams' 2008 description for s/n 13775 puts it in the Yoshida collection between 1975 and 1987, but RM's 2014 description states that it was exported in 1979 and remained there for 10 years until 1989. Who's right? I've not seen the documentation with this car, but can anyone actually confirm that this period of time is accounted for precisely? Perhaps it was an approximation, and in fact the car was still in the UK at the time you took the photo (or it came back earlier than others have claimed)? Beyond this, can anyone say for certain that the car pictured is *not* one of the following? 13799, 13891, 14059 I've not got a lot of info on these, but the specs make them more likely than others IMPO, hence my question. PS, while I mention 14059, this Daytona is currently showing up on UK reg check as being stolen. Is that a mistake, or does someone know something to confirm this? Last I heard this car was on the other side of the world being restored back to factory spec... -Ed
Ed Not being in front of my database right now, all I can say is that the Japanese photographs are date stamped 1987, which fit with my recollections of events. So which car did I photograph in 1983. Mark
13799 had a nudge bar on the front so it might not be this one. 13891 I don't have photo's of. 14059 looks very similar other than a wooden steering wheel and door mirrors. CTS Auctions - AUCTIONS Do you have any more photos Mark of the of the Daytona taken 1983, that might show any other features?
I understand 13775 used UK plates VNK 1J. Original owner was Ralph David Ltd of Potters Bar. Then to Hexagon of Highgate and on to Marc Bolan (T Rex), later to Anthony Wolf Motors in Middlesex, then to Terry Nichol. 1979 to Japan, 1989 back to the UK and mechanically rebuilt by Rardley Motors. November 6, 2009 it was damaged in an accident near Berlin, Germany, when the truck it was transported in fell into a ditch due to icy road conditions, car was apparently not badly damaged and remained strapped on upper deck of the truck. Photo below. I don't know the Copyright (perhaps received from Mark Shannon? Not sure! Sorry). Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login
You know what Grant, I think you have it with #14059. Those pictures in Aus really help and I found two I took at Donington in 1988. Mark Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Chris I saw your Father's Daytona only once in the flesh. As Jonanthan confirms, it certainly was converted by Autokraft. So your Father did not have this done himself ? Any idea when he sold it and to whom ? Photo taken by me at a Classic Car Show in Brighton, November 1980. Rod Leach, of Nostalgia, standing beside the car. Did he own it ? He seems to have had it for sale one more than one occasion. Mark Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think I overtook 2D in my 308gt4 at a Castle Coombe track day many years ago. I seem to recall thinking his number plate was worth more than my whole car. The driver came up to me afterwards and asked if I would show him the way around the track, which was nice.
I think it was the joint effort that did it. Glad we got there in the end. While you are in a sleuthing mood, any ideas on this RHD French registered conversion being drive by a small boy in Wales? Apparently he has two Daytona's! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfaO6RBUggs It certainly sounds good in the video!
I'm glad I threw 14059 into the mix - definitely looks likely. Another photo of this car in Paul Reece's ownership appears earlier in the thread. I also have this car down as at one time being registered as 'SAC 6' and 'XTO 44'. As mentioned above, this car is currently showing up as having been stolen on vehicle look-up. Does anyone know anything about it? Is the notation accurate? -Ed
Looks very much like #16347 to me. Anyone else. And maybe the second car is here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UWgHItC_9JI Mark
