I am looking to have my 2007 430 spider wrapped in 3M Pro Series Self Healing Film. My car color is Red, has anyone used this before? Any advice? How long have you had it? and is there any change or breakdown to the material since installation?

    Thank you

Suntek is the best stuff out right now. Looks better than Xpel and has the same healing properties.

I used to use Xpel or 3M ; never try Suntek ..... but either Xpel or 3M are all OK over years on my cars.

    Slickhillsy,

Is your entire car protected or just the hood and bumper?

For those of you who have clear bras, how long do you plan to leave it one before removing it? I got one about 2.5 years ago and the guy who installed it said something about removing and replacing it after, I think, 3 years to avoid having it fuse to the paint and damage it when it's removed.

Update: Contacted my film guy and he said as long as the car is garaged and you keep the bra waxed, it should be fine for "several more years" than my 2.5 years.

Well, I just had one removed that's was 8 years old. You couldn't tell on large surfaces but down by the wheel wells it had started to yellow. Of course that was old film and the film tech world has moved on. Had new film installed on it that has a 10 yr warranty against yellowing plus other things I don't remember . So mine will stay on unless there is a warranty issue.

I did a lot of research and went with Xpel ultimate. It's thicker than suntech, so I figured it might offer a bit more protection. With suntech being a bit thinner, most comments were that is was less visible than Xpel (a good thing). Trade-offs...
The fusing to the paint comment is the first I've heard of that, even after foraging thru various forums. Lots of stories about paint being removed as films were removed. Most could be traced to putting a film on before the paint has cured from a recent paint job. Just stuff I found trolling

+1 on Suntek. Probably the clearest bra out there with minimal orange peel. Was debating between Suntek and Xpel and the shop agreed Suntek was a better choice.

Had hood and fenders done (bumper was done by previous owner). I recommend a custom job as opposed to a print out. More coverage around the edges without random cut lines in the middle. 430/360s have huge fenders or fender as it is one large piece.

It is true you shouldnt clear bra fresh paint. Older clear bra technology isn't as good as the new stuff... Or at least we hope so. I plan on doing the rest of the car and to be certain the clear bra does not stick to the paint (Suntek claims on their site it won't stick to factory paint jobs) I am having the shop apply a layer of Opticoat Plus (Not Pro as it would be too smooth) glass coat before applying the clear bra.

Xpel is slightly thicker than Suntek, but the Suntek is thick enough imho.

Think it's important how they remove the film too. I believe you at least need heat. Maybe also a best angle to pull away too.

If you go with XPEL ULTIMATE it's warrantied for a full 10 years. Within that 10 years if removed properly and in the correct manner, there should be NO issue with removing paint or clear coat. Its best to take it to your installer to have him remove it.

If the film does yellow, which is very rare, its warrantied for a full 10 Years...

XPEL ULTIMATE comes with a full 10-year warranty against yellowing, discoloration, peeling, cracking and hazing. If it fails, we’ll replace it—labor included

    Thank you for your business!

You can install clear bra on a repainted car...BUT... always check with the body shop and ask them what is the appropriate time frame to do so. Many shops use different painting processes, body work, paint quality, clear quality, baking, etc and the list goes on. We'd highly recommend against doing any coatings beforehand. Ceramic Coatings can cause adhesion issues when applied prior to installations of Paint Protection Film

Yes, its very important. There is a proper technique and skill to remove it carefully to not remove any paint and/or clear coat.
