Confused by various posts. I just bought an F12 thinking it had a few more years in the cycle. I'm seeing that you cannot order new ones now. I got out of a 458 since it was depreciating due to the incoming 488.

I can't seem to find a definitive answer ( maybe there isn't one) on the future of the F12. Is it being freshened, totally replaced including name, ?? Thanks

It's rumored to be replaced by a new model that will be presented at Geneva 2017.

It would be interesting to know how many F12s were produced since 2013. It's certainly rare to see one on the road. And I doubt the drop in values will be as dramatic as the 8 cyl. models have been. All said and done it would take a lot to pry mine from my cold dead hands. It's just a great car.

V12 Fs routinely drop way more in value than V8s.

Prices are in no way cost or value based, just positioning.

You know they usually do drop more than the V8 models, but in another thread someone mentioned that the drop with the F12 so far hasn't been much worse than the 458s on a % basis... We all tend to look at the last model, and I wonder if the 599 was victimized by it not being the most fun car to drive at lower speeds- its a blast when driven hard though!- and also the Great Recession hit right as the cars were entering the depreciation zone... And the recession likely also affected 550s and 575s... It also seems to me they rolled out the F12s a little more slowly than 599s- though this is just my observation. And it turns out the F12 is a little more fun to drive at sane speeds than the 599- I credit even greater power (these aren't small light cars) and even better suspension components and tuning, slightly lower CG, better seating position, slightly smaller and supposedly slightly less weight..... I'm just wondering if all those factors combine to make the F12 depreciation a bit more gentle than we were expecting when comparing to what happened with the 599?

Spot on with that view. The recession created a disproportionate depreciation curve which happened and has now gone. Toys are back on the agenda and as such all Ferrari residuals are improving with some galloping away. F12s are a safe money bet as its replacement (when it comes) will be just different but not necessarily better. The F12 already has power to spare for the majority of owners ......emperors new clothes etc etc.

Take the Lusso for instance, better? not much just different. Visually better to some, challenging to others. Performance increase so slight most will not notice.

Take the 458 for instance, prices are on the up for used ones as it is perceived as a Pinin masterpiece by many whereas the 488 is different in many ways but better.....maybe.

IMO you can't keep running from depreciation with Ferrari. It will spoil your enjoyment. Maybe better off for some to keep their money in the bank?

And if you keep the car, there is no depreciation realized.

I'd much prefer my tombstone read "he lost all his money on Ferrari depreciation" than "he still had the first dollar he ever made" or some such variation!

It has been inevitable that our F12's would be replaced 4 years after their original launch, as that seems to be Ferrari's product cycle. Mine took 5 months from order to completion, so if they've just closed the order books then it would seem they'll be building the last F12's at the end of the summer.

No matter how beautiful/faster etc. the replacement is, the F12 is an epic car. If you don't have an F12 because you're waiting for the replacement, what's the earliest you could get it in the US? A year from now? 2 years? Get an F12 now and drive the wheels off it, you'll never regret it!!!

    Best, Paul

Totally agree - it's just perception. Life is short so live it while one is still breathing!

Did it surprise you that the F12 was about to be replaced? If you read on this board, you will see that the F12 successor and the F12 timeline has been discussed for quite some time, and those in the know confirm that it will be replaced very soon. Whether it will debut in Paris 2016 or Geneva 2017 remains to be seen.

    Amen to that.

The F12 Berlinetta will be seen as one of Ferrari's best achievements, no matter what comes next. It is a classic for the ages.

To me the best part of a Ferrari is the engine and I don't think the F12 Berlinetta's engine will be easily topped. And it is probably the apotheosis of Ferrari engines visually. Hard to imagine anything coming down the pike that will be that good looking. Certainly not the tdf.

Yes indeed! And agree that nothing will look that good and IMO shows better without the distraction of carbon in the engine bay. Other way around with the tdf.

The best way to beat depreciation: be the second buyer, about 4 years in. Have done that since the 90's, effectively not lost a penny. Did the 'new' car thing several times and found the depreciation very frustrating. A lot happier now, and I have a great choice of lightly used new ones to choose from. ;-)

Just got my 2014 F12 delivered with low miles and it is a very civilized race car that IMO makes it a Ferrari icon but I'm sure they're working hard to make the new ones even better.
