Thanks! I'll be 44 in Sept. I didn't do the math until my 30's! :)
Brazilian pizza. Ultra thin crust. One half Catupiry/chicken and Calabresa and the other a Romeo and Juliet for dessert. (Stock photos). Catupiry is Brazilian cream cheese and calabresa is sausage. RJ is Goiabada (guava) and cheese for sweet/tangy and salty. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
^ That looks awesome. I gotta develop a dessert pizza recipe one of these days. The was a place in Gainesville, when I was in college, that did a good one - fruit, cinnamon sugar on the crust as I recall. Ate out tonight again. Picked wife up at airport after her trip. Stopped off at a bar I knew she liked from a previous PCA social, called Silver Fox. A couple of Kobe sliders and a few Happy Hour martinis (for her, I was chauffeuring)...T
That pizza looks good. Here we have lots of pizza places. Its hard to find a really good one. I stick with the chains mostly. For really good you need to drive into Vancouver. This looks promising Food Menu | Famoso Neapolitan Pizzeria its close to my house as far as pizza places go.
The place we go to also does a chocolate strawberry and a cinnamon banana pie for dessert. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Those are some of the most gringo-ized tacos I have ever seen. Fish tacos using a flour tortilla, what looks to be mozzarella cheese and sour cream on the side. In cuisine there is fusion and bastardization. This is an example of the second.
That's the problem with Vancouver's food scene. Most of the restaurants are doing some sort of fusion deal mixing west coast ingredients with other influences. Everyone's menu is the same and boring. Especially the hotels. Like very little difference between the Four Seasons, Shangri La, Delta, and the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. Ended up going to Panago, they have a taco pizza that's pretty good.
I hate liver! I love liverwurst! 😜 Tonight was turkey burgers. Fresh maters & avocado. Tabasco East Asian Chile Sauce. White rice with Tabasco sriracha as the side...T
Liver is horrible stuff! I feed my dog beef liver though. He loves it. Grabbed some sashimi and some rolls. Had to mail some letters the old fashion way. Have a post box near my house, but its picked up at 2pm. The next nearest box is 5pm and it happens to have a Japanese restaurant near the same spot.
On your next visit to a good Japanese restaurant, look for ankimo on the menu. Monkfish liver - basically seafood foie gras. Image Unavailable, Please Login
My great grand mother lived with us when I was a kid. She is/was Icelandic. She had a few wacky dishes. The worst was similar to liverwurst but worse. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sl%C3%A1tur In Iceland you can buy it. We hated when she made this at home. So did bring it back when she came back from visits to Manitoba. Large Icelandic population there. I've seen fish liver on the menu at Japanese restaurants, just never tried it. I order pretty much the same thing. Its a pretty big order but I'll try it next time.
What?!? You are King of the Internet for today! My bbq fantasy is to figure out how to do Peking Duck on my backyard. Looks great. Safe travels...T
OK! Never heard of that. I'll make a mental note of it for next time. Thank you. Silly grandmas and their wacky recipes from the old country. My grandma used to tell us the Sicilian name for any strange dishes, but nothing too weird - mostly seafood based items like octopus, sardines, anchovies, whelk, etc. Then she'd spill the beans after we ate it. Tripe was the only innards based dish she ever made that I can recall. Didn't like it that much. The fish dishes - yummy. In fact, I made one of her dishes for my crew yesterday. Pasta and sardines in tomato sauce...T
I like most seafood dishes. I'm starting to not like cooked seafood as much though. Iceland is mostly fish. They did import small livestock in the early 20th century. They tend to do a lots of cured type dishes. Like salted fish. I'm not a fan of salt, so don't like most of their fish dishes. They also use the entire parts of what they eat. So a few heads of various fish and animals like sheep on the menu.
Last night? 2 semi-stale hot dog buns, opened flat, & spread with Grey Poupon mustard. Layer of leftover grilled asparagus. Leftover prime rib, cubed. Covered with Velveeta "cheese." Topped with fine sliced onion. Placed in hot toaster oven on "Broil" until onions caramelized and "cheese" slightly scorched. Result? Pretty darn tasty eats.
Oh darn you!!! Just started a craving. In Washington State, they have a steakhouse chain called the Buzz Inn. Kind of dingy hole in the wall kind of place. They make a darn good Philly cheesesteak. Although they just call it a steak sandwich.
