I agree that it does cover the beauty of the induction system however the technical content of the DD Euro version air-box has been designed to maximize performance. My only complaint is the weight of the air filter boxes positioned at the sides of the motor. The engine cover is in lightweight kevlar and more than 10 kg could have been saved with aluminum or composite filter boxes.

Exactly 7Kg compared with the BMC: BMC Carbon Dynamic Airbox Installation

But the engine lid is also too heavy for Composite material, but this Counts for the entire car. The valve cover is 8-9mm thick, the one of a Gallardo 2-3mm.

We need to Keep in mind that it's a 45 year old design, built 30 years ago.

Apologies for the off-topic, even though this thread focuses on the 1985 to 1988 Downdrafts, here is a beautiful Downdraft Anniversario with just over 1,600 miles @ Algar Ferrari in PA.

I have 2 thoughts about high-speed runs with or without the wing:

Firstly, had he removed the wing, the car would have unquestionably gone a few mph faster.

Secondly, with the wing in place, the car is more stable and therefore safer at top speed.

The Countach does have a tendency to 'wander' at terminal velocity, a bit unnerving to say the least! As other Countach owners such as Steve L (who v-maxed a wingless DD) have already attested, the wing does make the difference in stability there, likely the only time it is ever useful. Several decades ago when I was much more irresponsible, I drove my DD to terminal velocity. Basically, the car was going as fast as it would go, and it was wandering. A month later, I put the wing back on, and tried this again, and this time it was much more stable. Both attempts were at night. Or maybe the whole thing was a dream...

Its still a Countach!!!! Not my favorite. But still a very nice design update, as far as updating designs go.

Ive seen several DDs with twin fog-lights such as the Rosberg French-registered car, and these Dutch & French-registered car.

Raymond was this mandatory for certain transportation jurisdictions in Europe that you know of?

Or is this purely aftermarket application?

for sure aftermarket, the fog light was long time not mandatory, when it became a single one was sufficient.

And a single rear one is still mandatory today in the E.U. Some recent cars actually had a clever use of the rear fog light as a design feature (the Peugeot 206 comes to mind, but I'm sure there are plenty of other examples).

Interesting, always thought the non black seams indicated a re paint, live and learn.

The easiest way to tell if a (non side-skirted) Countach has been repainted is the lack of blackout along the bottoms of the sills in many cases.

Another car ordered with white caulking is Wilhelm Hinghaus' one-owner-from-new Downdraft

By this I mean the black line at the bottom of the sills.

I always ask myself when I see this omitted: "how hard is this to do?"

This is one of my favorite Ferruccio images, with Nuccio Bertone, Lamborghini SpA & Bertone SpA being perhaps the most important automotive partnership of all time, certainly the one that made our beloved Downdraft possible

Another well-known German-based DD delivered with white-caulking, can't say if it has been repainted or not since this car has done many miles, but it still shows as a white-caulking car
