I know an old eccentric guy here in Florida that has an odd collection of junky cars. He wants me to help him find buyers. The most challenging of the bunch is a 250 GTE (or maybe it's a 330 America...).

The Ferrari does not have a title and we cannot find the serial number anywhere on the car. He bought the car 14 years ago from a guy in Palm Beach and has no way to contact him to get a duplicate title. Without the serial number we can't get a duplicate title.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE THE SERIAL NUMBER WOULD BE ON THIS CAR? No...it's not anywhere in the typical places ~ not in the windshield pillar or dash, not in the door jam, nowhere....

    Any ideas?

there should be the chassis/telaio plate in the engine bay. If that is missing (since it is only screwed/riveted on), then go to the right front corner of the engine bay and look straight down. In front of the engine, there will be a side-to-side black chassis crossbar w/ a flat top. There will be a chassis serial number stamping on the top. It might be hard to see if there is a bunch of crud on the top of that frame member, so bring a towel/brush/spray bottle.

On second thought the GTEs might have their stamping on the left side of the cross-bar. The stamp will look like the first pic. The serial number plate, if it's there, will be on the driver's side of the firewall (second pic). Does this car still have its Ferrari engine? If so, it will have two stamps at about the 1 o'clock position of the motor (i.e. passenger side) where the bell housing meets it (third pic). You'll have to get a flashlight and peek down in between the firewall and the right side distributor to see it. The top number is the chassis # (if you're lucky, it will match the crossmember stamp) and the lower number is the internal motor number.

look forward to hearing what this is; lots of missing GTE's hopefully still out there.

THIS is how and why a Ferrari Classiche is necessary - not to "certify" an 84 308 but to research and build a history on an unknown or little known example like this.

Once the serial number is known there will be very likely plenty of history.
