Lowering the 458 Italia?

Did you have clearance issues dropping it 30mm? Just worried about my curve to the driveway.

 

Id love to know myself I was about to buy them as well. They claim to ship worldwide as well.

 

My 2011 was dropped on factory springs and the car looked and drove fantastic.

Did you get this done at Ferrari dealer or third party shop? Looks great BTW. How much did you drop her?

 

Yeah thats just crazyness - We are working to find out why they are selling these so cheap (WAY BELOW OUR COST) which really leads me to believe that it may or may not be an authentic Novitec Set of Springs - But i have Pinged Novitec to find out.

 

Thanks, yes the dealer did it before I took delivery. It was approximately 1 inch in the front and 3/4" in the rear.

30mm should usually not cause any scraping issues; having said that it all depends on how
steep the curb to your driveway is...

$4000 - Novitec spring install and alignment. Plus tax.
$2330 - Labor for adjusting stock springs. Plus tax.

$165/hr estimated 12 labor hours. $350 alignment.

12 hours seems like a lot. Are these rates reasonable? If I throw in the spacers, they will install for free with the springs.

 

Not sure why I can't attached pictures in private message so I'm posting it here on this thread. Based on the attached pictures, 30mm drop should be just enough. I should have a little over .25 inch of clearance. Does that sound right?

If the 12 hours is to simply adjust the height of the coil over, then yes, its a lot IMO. I've had many cars lowered and it has normally taken 4~ hours.

 

Looks great! This modification really adds to the sleek look of the 458. It seems that any car coming from any manufacturer rides too high so as to provide plenty of margin for all types of conditions, roads and drivers which the vehicle will be exposed. The Italia isn't the most practical car out there anyway so changing it's lines to make it more aesthetically pleasing to the owner is perfectly acceptable and is one of the joys of ownership.

 

So just confirmed that they are no longer buying Novitec product, this came to me straight from the top!

 

Typically we charge 8-10 hours for the spring install plus 1-2 hours for the alignment.

Regarding the spacers they are simple to install so they shouldn't charge you much (if anything) to install.

But 12 hours isn't much more than what we charge, but our hourly rate is a bit less than theirs. We're at $125/hour.

the most diagonally possible to be safe as per the Rosso Corsa arrows

I had my Italia and spider lowered with the stock parts. I was charged roughly the same time as you quote. To do it properly, car had to be measured from chassis to floor all around. Then, wheels and shocks have to be removed to turn them enough. Then, wheels back on and car driven around the block to "settle it. Then, it has to be re-measured to makes sure that car is actually equally lowered at all four corners. If not, wheels off again and slight turning of shock and re-measuring occurs. Then there is the alignment. I think 8 no more than 10 hours is closer to the truth in terms of a first rate job.
But, the "downstairs" is obviously really churning out the profits for the "upstairs" folk.

Thanks for your comments. Was your ride the same after lowering with the stock shocks? Meaning was it rougher ride as the Tag guy suggested?

 

Thank you! Yes that's how I currently egress/ingress. I will probably lower it with my stock shocks soon. And add spacers.

 

For lowering on stock springs, they will only lower 19mm (3/4 inch) according to Ferrari of Seattle. Has anyone lowered more than 19mm on their stock springs?
