Hey all, This is my last post, as I have asked Rob to remove me from the site for good. I just wanted to say that my intention here was only ever to find out if anyone had had a similar experience with that dealership. I never wanted to air out my story. I never wanted to suffer the ridicule that one would obvious suffer on a Ferrari site after buying a POS Gremlin, whether it's for his wife or not. I just wanted to see if my experience was an anomaly or if others had gone through similar things with them. For any insults or PMs that any of you may have found offensive, I aplogize, but I'm sure you can understand that when you're attacked as I was, lashing out is the first response, especially on a site like this because you are supposedly anonymous. Of course that ship has sailed with me. lol Anyway, I think the comments that really stung me were that I felt entitled in some way. I really do take umbridge with that. I worked incredibly hard for 25 years to get to where I am at now. I spent every summer since I was sixteen trying to find any PA job I could just to be near the business and learn everything I could. I treat everyone who works for me and with me as I would ask to be treated. I have a loving wife, great friends, some really cool cars in the garage (besides the Gremlin) and I live my life by one simple edict: Karma is a *****. So I try to be really careful in how I am to people. I broke that cardinal rule in dealing with all of you, and for that, I am truly bummed out. Anyway, I really will miss this place. There are few things better than getting a new F Car and sharing the photos on here. Take care everyone. I'm riding off into the sunset in my 1972...oh wait, not yet. In a couple of weeks I will. BTW - I am taking Roy up on his generous offer of $1000 towards the repairs.
You deserve every drop of ridicule. Every. Single. Drop. And putting your tail between your legs and suddenly showing some humility doesnt absolve you from your actions here. PS I really do have some friends who ARE very high up at DW
Apology accepted. Honestly, I don't think anyone here would have cared that the car in question is a Gremlin, until you mocked me for having a Miata. Lots of forum members here have different likes, different ideas of what constitutes a classic with associated memories, and all of it is cool. (Quite a few members here also own Miatas, alongside or without a Ferrari).
He always has a few Ferraris, but bunches of inventory for Lamborghini and muscle cars. I bought my '70 Boss 302 from him.
Hell, I bought a MINI and two SmartCars.* * OK, maybe the SmartCars are pushing the definition of "cool" just a bit.All the best, Andrew.
Classic Hollywood mentality. If he is a Producer even makes more sense. What's appalling is bragging about working your way up from a PA and than acting like a ****** after you make something of yourself. If he's making 5 mil a year, he has an assistant. Why couldn't his assistant go through the paperwork like every other assistant in town for their bosses. He should know better than to not read a contract or deal memo. Who doesn't have a ppi or visually inspect the car themselves before purchase?
Dude no quitting! You have to get voted off the island. You should know that being a TV producer/writer.
You're forgetting that he announced to us that he asked Rob to remove him from the forum. Boo-****ing-hoo. We'll miss him for sure...He could also simply not log in anymore but apparently has to be removed?
I think CNC, who's been absolutely silent, probably should eat part of that $1000 for you. Thread says more about them than Ray at this point. You do realize this thread will not disappear, nor your posts?? Nice of you to own it, but Ray didn't sell you the car. At least, ask that thread title be changed to non-caps and add resolved to it out of gratitude to Cats. Also realize that in communities as deep as this, it wasn't about the Gremlin, it was about the attitude and the principle of responsibility. You had inspection showing deficit. Unknown if CNC reiterated that or not. You could have done a PPI at Jiffy Lube for god sake.
Yeah stick around. Everyone talks some stupid **** from time to time but very few extend an apology. Made for some good Saturday morning reading!
Hmmm...well...since we are admitting things. As kid I went with my Dad to pick up a brand new 1976 red Pacer. I still have the owners manual and a few other things.
This thread is the proof of how the jungle can be hard on a living being. This place can be a huge well of information and help and at the same time real a jungle where you can be killed at anytime. I felt sorry for the guy for a time, then laughted like crazy by the situation after another post of him. Fchat is a great place but it sometimes derail with NO reason on something that started with no bad intention or reason to become what it ended up like. Why is there a new rule in the car ad section for comments that are not appropriate? Because of all those who are shi* stirrers. And they are everywhere. Sincerely I feel the end of this thread is BAD. Yes the guy made mistakes, more than one. Yes he is leaving with the tail between the legs because he is intelligent enough to understand he will not get out of here alive if he stays and from now on he has a very good idea he is going to be a joke whaterver he say. There are a lot of you guys that I wouldn't want to have as friends. I had to express my feelings even if I liked to read the thread and laughted. BTW I also made good friends here
He was pretty quick with his apology and owning up to making mistakes. Usually the ops try to double down. As far as i can tell he didnt log back in until today, and then he issued the apology. I was not expecting that at all.
While the abrasive posts/PMs shouldn't have happened in the first place, the subsequent apology for them was most certainly to the OP's credit. To GordonC's credit, he graciously accepted. I think both were gentlemanly actions. One can only hope the dispute with the actual car is as easily remedied with the aforementioned offer acceptances - and it was very good of Roy Cats to make the offer to fix it. Good luck to all involved and I hope that's everyone now at an amicable resolution. All the best, Andrew.
You thought that was quick ? Just goes to show how we all see things in a different perspective. The guy could offer to come wash our cars and i still wouldnt accept his apology.
He also sent me an apology via PM. I'm actually impressed that after letting the heat of the moment cool off overnight, he's come back to man up and accept his share of the blame for that surprising escalation. That wouldn't have been easy to do. I'll take Jerry's car wash for the other Miata! I actually think the OP should stick around and continue to participate, he's got more than the Gremlin to discuss here, and the Gremlin is now a guaranteed ice-breaker.
OP, even your apology is insulting. You say you didn't want to take the inevitable abuse you thought you'd receive over buying a Gremlin, yet *you* were the one who heaped abuse and insults onto just about every respondent right up until the time that your claim got outed for what it really is. We're all car guys here, so if you'd been upfront to begin with people would have reacted much differently. No doubt you would have gotten an elbow to the ribs or two over it buying a Gremlin, but if you were really trying to do something nice for your wife most of us would have found that laudable. But instead, you assumed we were all a bunch of callous jerks, even as you threw feces at the people who were trying to help you. In the end it doesn't matter if the car in question was a Gremlin, a Pacer, or a 250GTO-- you just didn't have a leg to stand on. You were buying a used car, sight-unseen, from another entity instead of directly from Roy (who you apparently shorted out at early in the shopping process), where the mechanical flaws about which you complain were actually noted on the inspection form! In what dream world do you operate where you could possibly think that Roy, who sold the car at wholesale to the dealer you *chose*, owes you one red cent??? If this were The People's Court and I were Judge Wapner, my judgement would be that you owe Roy Cats $1000 for wasting his time, and for attempting to damage his reputation over frivolous, spurious claims. The fact that you intend to take money from him after all of this speaks volumes.
Well relatively speaking, yeah. Before I went running he still hadn't logged in from last night. When I got back I saw his apology. I was expecting a few more days of him playing victim. But you've been on the forum way longer then I have, so you may be hardened to this types of episodes, less forgiving. I'll probably get the thousand yard stare in another two years or so. I'm just happy I saw the train wreck get started and was the first to flag it for entertainment value.
I usually try not to quote entire posts but this is so well said, and I so agree on all points, that I'm making an exception. +1000.
I lean your way. After it all dies down, the Gremlin story will be funny. This is a tough crowd, but as far as I can see, a very welcoming and helpful crowd. I do not own my Ferrari yet, but more then one member has given me useful advice in other areas. We all make mistakes and members tend to help you fix those mistakes, whether in a PM or out in the open.
I guess I am just from another place and time. I would be ashamed and humiliated to admit: I paid $23,000 for a Gremlin. I paid money to ship it anywhere. I financed the purchased. I didn't read the inspection on the car. I didn't look at the car myself. I didn't talk my wife out of a 40 year old Gremlin. I didn’t take the deal to back out of the bad deal from the guy who didn’t actually sell it to me. I try to pin the blame for the bad deal on the dealer who didn’t actually sell me the Gremlin. I don’t feel stupid being in this position and not want to keep it a secret. After doing all the above I bring my errors up in a public forum to prove how stupid I am? I guess I just don't get it? But I did have a bunch of laughs reading this thread it just got better and better.
