Replacing the coil fixed the miss, which in turn caused the engine to run smoothly again. It's possible that what you were smelling was the unburned fuel from the cylinder that wasn't firing, but IIRC you mentioned fouled plugs on one bank. If that was the case you likely also had a bad CTS or resistive connection to that CTS that was causing one side to run rich. It's not at all uncommon to find more than one problem in cases like this.

In any case, I'm hopeful that you have resolved the problem(s) at this point. Nice work. :)

Hope it's corrected. Now you know why when a car is missing they say first check fuel, compression and spark.

had a break between rain drops today and fairly dry roads to take her out for a test drive.
Did replace the other Ignition Coil and swapped out the Champion plugs for the NGK's. Also matched up the O2 sensors (both walker now instead of 1 walker direct fit and a Uni)

    No CELs.
    Nice smooth idle.
Engine also seemed quieter at idle.
    Strong and smooth acceleration.
Maybe just placebo effect and I wanted it to, but the car seemed to pull harder.

My guess would be a combo of everything I've done to her and the new chips PLUS the Dexoit of everything will hopefully have cleared things up for now. I still plan on re-pinning things but can do it at a more leisurely pace and still enjoy driving her over the summer.

Next year comes her major anyhow.

Agreed. It's hard to believe these cars are now ~25 years old, so everything you did was good preventative maintenance anyway. Probably a combination of several things contributed to the improvement in the way it runs. Even though the terminals in my car looked fine, the engine runs better and smoother after just D100-- keeping my fingers crossed for even more improvement once I get rid of it and apply the DeOxit Gold (which has really impressed me in other applications).

Congrats on your success. Hopefully you'll be able to enjoy the car for a while. :)

Quick update... car is running Ahh-mazing. Daughter even said it seems different. I got the new FPRs so they are going in shortly.

Another note on the D100.... non operational rh side mirror. Thought what the heck even though i repinned some on the LH side I'll try D100 on RH... next morning mirror works.

I'm sold as an interim to repin.

I recently replaced both of my ignition coils with new ones, not because I had a problem but because one was still the OE (no markings on it except for the stickers with 4 dots) and the other a Bosch 0 221 503 407 (fairly new looking). I did not expect any difference but the engine does seem to idle smoother. Maybe this is because I put in Italian coils - Marelli.
