Wow I guess that guy last week that offerred me 30K over MSRP must have been an apparition.
And, oh yeah my local dealer offered me MSRP for the car themselves, guess they like to lose money,

Get real, talk with someone that actually owns one before pontificating on its current value.

I understand where you are coming from. Obviously specs are very important. My 2k mile yellow Scud has appreciated over the past couple years but it certainly hasn't gotten back to MSRP, and it is an 8 year old car. We can see where the Speciale will be in 4-5 years. There will be lots of competition in the $400k price range (Mclaren P14 and Porsche 960 for example).

People have been saying the speciale will depreciate to below msrp for a year now and it still hasn't happened. I have also yet to see one driven as much as my 458 and 430 spider for sale with over 10,000 miles. Maybe those will sell for msrp. what is the msrp for most speciales anyway? 375,000+?

The South African car market is a strange place when compared to the USA / Europe, but my observations have been as follows:

    > F430 Scuderia now trades at around US$333k at current USD/ZAR (well north of original MSRP)

    > 458 Speciale trades at around US$433k - US$466k (8 - 16% over MSRP)

As previously pointed out in this thread, given the values of F430 Scuds, it sure does seem unlikely that Speciales will depreciate much from here. Perhaps most of the appreciation is done for now, though.

I've seen $320k-380k with the majority in the $340k range.

We'll see when hybrid tech gets dirt cheap and is in everything.

By that time NA will be dead a long time... Combustion engines going along with hybrid technology will be as small as possible with high boost - see Formula 1...

From someone who just sold a Scuderia before the prices climbed a lot and bought a Speciale and had to pay a very high premium for one I would think its one of the safest cars to buy if you are worried about losing money.

These lightweights are "meant" to be race cars. But, they are the closest thing to one for the road that Ferrari offers and to me personally that is still something special. I believe it will be not only the last NA v8 Ferrari but it will be the most powerful HP per L engine NA ever made ( ok they say this but I do have something else that has more HP per L).

Play the odds. Just get one. Its a win win situation (smile on face win). And no, mine is not for sale....

Tons of these for sale in Europe and at lower prices. Sorry, it's just the reality of it.

And no, I have no interest in the "last NA V8." Way better cars already available, and many more coming. That's the beauty of exotics these days, better ones come out every 6 months.

    I disagree.

    The 360CS didnt
    The Scuderia didnt
So I dont think the Speciale will either.

And if people keep bringing up these production number to argue otherwise..... I go crazy..... To me it means nothing and does not change the characteristics of the car...

While that is true, there is no car on the market close like a Scuderia. Sure heaps are faster, better looking. But prices of them now do show they are a collectible and a car in demand.

i dont get why people think of cars as an investment

almost 99% of the cars depreciate

there are so many better investment options available

Don't forget that most Scuderia's were around $300k new. from the original owners perspective they were not good 'investments'.

Currently I drive a 458 Italia. I love driving the 458 quite a bit, I have owned it for 9 months and put on almost 4k miles. I do believe cars should be driven and I have no problem getting the thing dirty. I am on the waiting list to get a new 488. I do love the look of the speciale and would love to get one eventually but if I am to keep it more for a collectors car I would only drive it on special occasions.

I am looking to allocate some small percentage of my wealth into a collector cars and art. I feel the entire collectors car market is quite high as is the art market. In general, there doesn't seem to be much value in any assets as stuff has really skyrocketed everywhere.

I guess most of you guys think speciales will keep going down for next couple of years. I might pick one up then. I was looking at apertas but they seem to be way too overvalued at these prices.

I agree 100%. Its probably closer to 99.9%.:)

I have a hard time imagining that someone that could actually afford to buy a $350,000 car would actually think of it as an investment. Certainly one may want to limit the depreciation hit with a certain model, color combo etc, but an "investment"!?? I suppose if one inherited a bunch of cash or won the lottery, then maybe they could be scammed by some seller into thinking any modern day car is an investment (except Supercars like LaFerrari, 918, P1, etc which are super limited and do skyrocket in value).

You really never know, I was invited to two different functions on the 918 and they were having trouble selling them.

Only way to work as an investement is to get a very very low miles car, for MSRP, not drive it, and hold it 10 years. Doesnt sound like fun, but would probably pencil out ok.

Every generation went through the same cycle, shortly after their release the cars were asking over msrp. And like every generation, it then depreciated over a period thereafter before rebounding...not sure what's so unreal about that. It's historical fact, just look back at it yourself.

If you think the Speciale will be the one to buck the pattern of its 2 previous predecessors, and continue to sell over msrp then well, good for you for taking that risky bet. No risk, no glory right lol.

And every one of those cars (CS, Scud) fell at the time of the successors Spyder release. The Speciale has not, in fact prices are actually now a bit firmer.

There is a problem with looking at prices right now, as we seem to be in a bit of a bubble. Many who have accumulated wealth since '08 and have a good deal of investment capital are looking at cars as collector "art." The only truly collector cars are the supercars, imho, such as F40, F50, Enzo, etc. I was talking with my dealer about looking for an F40 as an investment, and even he told me to wait, as prices are ridiculous right now. So I would take current price increases with a grain of salt.

Exactly. A lot of money has been made since the March lows and US stocks are still not far from all time highs. Housing have long since recovered and even bubbly again in some areas.

Everyone here is speculating. Time will tell. Let people spend money how they want. I have a Speciale. I think I mention that in every post I make on this forum. :)

Prices for speciales are still over msrp. But I do see well spec low miles cars asking below 400k which was not the case just a few months ago. Aperta is a whole different story though.
