F12 for Autumn delivery or wait for F12M?

I have been offered the chance to get a new F12 for delivery Autumn this year.

I love the F12 and i'm sure i'll be happy with it but thanks to you guys we know that the F12M will likley be 6.5 Litre NA V12 800 BHP, with 4WS and no doubt a step forward in other departments.

I would wait for the F12M but realistically UK production will start at the end of 2017 and delivery probably not before spring 2018, almost 2 years from now.

The obvious thing is to buy a used F12 and wait for the M, but here in the UK used values are so strong i might as well go new and have my own spec.

I need to decide in the next week or so. What should i do?

Other alternative is keep my FF and until the M comes, not really a hardship! ;-)

 

According to many things I have read here, the FF is one of the best V12 ever produced by Maranello

the F12 belongs to the same generation as your FF... the M will be a step ahead.

I think it's worth the wait. And maybe you won't have to wait so long...

FF will depreciate more than F12 next 2 yrs. Swap FF with used F12, enjoy the ultimate GT and decide if it is worth to upgrade to a non Pininfarina F12M

 

Can't you get the new F12, and order the F12M? Trade the F12 in with your dealer the day the M arrives.

 

You will wait at least until autumn of 2017 before you see an F12M, and maybe then your dealer may have other customers. Maybe the F12 as an interim is not so bad, and will maybe get you an F12M quicker. In any case, financially keeping the FF another 18 months is no hardship, but check where you are with F12M orders.

 

If your guaranteed an M build..wait and use the time value of money to make money on the funds for the car in the meantime. Here in the US, I don't believe you can count on anything (especially if your relatively new to Ferrari). For example, if I had a solid F12 build offer I would take it now as I feel any promises for an M based on me being new to the Ferrari family, I would probably be shut out given the number of current F12 owners who didn't get a TDF but would surely trade up for the M. Hopefully Europe is not so bad.

 

I have ordered F12M in UK.
Dealer's best guess is delivery Sept 2017 so you may not have to wait as long as you think.

 

One question I would ask is what do you want to get out of this besides the car. Do you want to get on the list for other cars?

If you want to play in the game a bit, then getting more cars over time is better. Then I would say get the F12 new now, get in line for F12M. You could also sell the FF through the dealer and that helps them. Not sure what you want to do with the FF.

If on the other hand you just want to get an F12 level car and then keep it for a long time and don't want to get involved with buying and selling then financially you will be best off waiting but I want to point out to you that dealers change, dealer personnel change, even when things are in writing sometimes they don't come through. If you really love the F12b and would like one now I would advise the "bird in the hand" approach.

I would put in "low" bids against various used F12s and see what the dealers say. The cars on the various sites are not turning over quickly. If you have the cash there could be a deal to be done.

 

Thanks for all the comments. I have decided to hold off and wait for the M for the following reasons.

1. If i did buy a new F12 I wouldn't see it until late this year, and then it wouldn't get much use with the UK climate until Spring 2017 by which time the F12M will have been shown which to be honest would probably annoy me.

2. No one knows for sure but i expect used F12s to take a hit at some point and if a nice spec car shows up at the right money I can go for that instead of new.

3. I'm enjoying my 2013 FF so much, I may even consider getting a newer 2015 FF if i can find one with a decent spec and price and run that until i get an F12M.

Agree with your thinking. The FF is all things to all men, well nearly anyway. I chose a new FF for May 2015 delivery knowing the facelift would brake cover in Feb 2016 and worried that might annoy me but in truth it hasn't and even if it had I couldn't get one until March 2017. That's 22 months without an FF.
USED F12s are really strong at present and probably 10 to 15% higher than they should be so the hit will be around 20 to 25% when the M comes on line. I've been told left hand drive only until late 2017 and more likely early 2018.

Stick with the FF or as you say grab a late 2016 model specced to the hilt but you won't notice that much difference apart from the crappy radio reception.

my research:

there will be a new "f12" replacement sometime in the future, but the last of the f12 line is the f12tdf. the old pictures of the supposed "f12m" are what became the f12tdf. this is the last year of f12 production, until the "next model, not called an f12 anything" comes.

interestingly, ferrari sales of v12's continues to decline, so i believe these cars will become even more collectible in the future. it's not yet clear if the replacement car will be a kers, turbo, or na, however indications seem to suggest it will not be a regular na.

 

Depends how long the wait would be for the updated f12 m. I would inquire to your dealer about getting on the list as soon as possible otherwise you could be waiting for a long time.

Have our first Ferrari - F12 - arriving either just before August, or just after
spent quite some time speaking to numerous dealers, and collectors, before putting the order in; the majority feel that the days of the NA V12 are numbered, and most probably phased out completely by this time next year across the range.

 

I'd be a little less convinced of the loss of V12 quote so soon, Ferrari are a niche builder, so I would hope, and Ferrari will try, to keep their signature engine for as long as possible, with the V8s moving to turbo maybe as a help to keep V12. In the meantime, rumour certainly helps keep interest up in the used cars and prices high!

 

Congratulations re the F12. However I think you are wrong about the replacement. It is all but confirmed the the replacement to the F12 will still be NA, probably 6.5 litre and 800 BHP.

Also incorrect. We know the M is a 6.5 litre 800hp, AWS n/a monster and will be in production for approximately 4 years. It may not be called an F12 anymore and like the FF morphed into the Lusso, chances are the F12m will do something equivalent.

 

I agree with this. F12s will drop 20% ish if the F12M is NA. Only question is will they make it look a little goofy or will they get it right. PF had decades of identity, momentum and refinement in house. TDF looks proper for it's sporty purposes, but is still leaning toward something less than inspired. GTC4, well, you know.

Off the topic, how do you compare TDF to F12M since F12M is 800hp? Thanks.

 

Unfortunately yet to get my tdf but from what I understand, in simple terms, sheer rawness, violence and aggression. The tdf is an extreme car in comparison to the F12 more so than even a Speciale is to a 458. The M will continue to be the ultimate GT, albeit probably faster in a straight line, but still a GT. I will hopefully have both in my garage and they will each fulfil a different role and scratch a different itch.
