We haven't seen one of those since Nelson Piquet punched Elio Salazar at Hockenheim, I think. That was hilarious to watch.

This is maybe why drivers aren't in such a hurry to remove their helmet after a race; have you noticed?
Maybe they fear the first reaction when the adrenaline is still pumping after the chequered flag, and they could be assaulted by someone they push outside the track, etc...
The Mercedes lads just throw caps to each other, but in silence.

 

That option has never been considered.

I initially posted the poll with just the two choices.

Then some comments & a thread merge from (I presume?) Andrew added the second two options - Certainly tongue in cheek.

Fun stuff, & interesting watching how the voting is going; Was initially heavily LH's "fault", but Nico seems to catching up......

I think it's 25% Nico's fault and 75% Lewis. Nico made the mistake to push himself to the right which it was the wrong side to be. Lewis could have used his breaks but he didn't. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Nico deserves a far greater portion of the blame; justice was served when he got punted by the car he pushed off the track.

 

I don't like either driver so I've got no dog in this hunt. I have no problem with the stewards' decision, but I voted that it's both their fault. I'm taking a broader view than the rulebook or the one incident. The problem between Ham and Ros began long before they climbed into their cars, and if the team doesn't get it straight, I expect more of their animosity will play out on the unfortunate cars, which are the real victims.

Perhaps it's time for the team principal to break out a ruler and have them both drop pants. No use ruining valuable equipment over their personal problems.

Was hilarious. Hardest I've laughed at a F1 crash since LH ran into the back of a car parked at a red light in the pit lane at Canada 08.

Two cars going to get a sure 1-2 and Hamilton tries some ridiculous maneuver (on the first lap, no less), loses control after the door gets shut on him, and wipes out his teammate. Wow.

Was a racing incident hence no penalties but the majority of the blame is clearly on Lewis. Enjoyed a race without the Mercs making it a borefest.

 

I asked a friend who is a very experienced racer and former chief steward. His reply;

"Lewis was the overtaking car and responsible for a safe pass. He was clearly behind Nico and should have backed off."

 

While I can't claim such credentials, a huge "+1" to that comment.

From the tiniest karts thru all forms of the sport, it is *always* the responsibility of the car behind to ensure (s)he can make the pass "safely". The leading car can block, at least to a limited degree, these days.

As already noted, Lewis ****ed up - Bas' video illustrated it beautifully. How anyone can blame Nico is beyond me TBH. What was he meant to do? Become the invisible car?

Not being obtuse, but why was the right side the wrong one to be on? The next corner was a right-hand sweeper with the racing line setting up on the outside left.

It was only the wrong side because Rosberg dove there to block. You can effectively argue that Hamilton should have anticipated the block and performed a double move. That, I completely agree with.

 

Did you also tell you friend he was down 180bhp and playing with his buttons(fixing his hidden start mode) instead of watching his mirrors?
